No Netflix on the Switch according to Bussiness Insider

Nintendo does not make the netflix app.

Nintendo has as much control over whether the Switch gets Netflix as they do over whether it gets the next CoD.

This is some staggering logic. Of course Nintendo has control over what gets released on their platform. If they tell Netflix they don't want the app, then the app will never get developed.

Welp, it looks like you will have to carry an extra device with the Switch anyway, since the smartphone app will be required for multiplayer to do voice chat and matchmaker anyway.

So Nintendo is kinda making it impossible for the Switch to be the only device you carry around with you.

Are you honestly trying to say you don't carry your phone with you? Like anyone was going to not have their phone on them when they leave the house.

I've got Netflix on so many freaking devices at this point I really couldn't care less. Same with the web browser. Who actually uses a browser on their gaming console? I've messed around with them occasionally but it's usually more of a pain in the ass than it's worth.

I'm good with this.

Still not getting a Switch at launch though.

I'd like a web browser and video/audio streaming on a tablet. A functional tablet that plays console and mobile Nintendo games seems like a cool device that more consumers would want than what we have with switch.

Nintendo fans continuing to take expert spin classes I see!

I noticed the Banderas avatar and the perma Junior Member status and just as a fun exercise decided to see if you have any bans on record. And you know what, you did! Out of 5 bans on this forum, four of them are related to being a console fanboy. In conclusion, I would caution a little more self-awareness before going in on other console fanboys.

I think there are pretty valid criticisms when it comes to tying the online service to a mobile device, but this might be the worst one. People keep their phones with them practically all the time, to the point where it's usage often interferes with their face to face conversations.

I'm probably taking a break from Neogaf until this thing releases. There is so much misinformation from people just wanting to point out something negative it's almost nauseating. So many claims that there are so many people without smartphones and when evidence is brought that 2/3's of Americans have one, and the number is only trending up on the rise only makes the detractors say "Way to spin it PR"
Titles like "Netflix won't come to Switch" when the article clearly states that Netflix won't come to Switch AT LAUNCH" or that the Smartphone app is a paid app in addition to the paid subscription and not how it's a free app which works with the paid subscription is pretty much an outright lie. People that open threads about how gross Ultra Street Fighter II looks "gross" are the same people that defend SFV's pricing model on PS4. It's also the same folks criticizing the games coming to the Switch who are defending the current lineup on PSVR.
Heck I even saw yesterday the argument that kids don't play Pokémon anymore because the percentage of kids that play Pokémon Go is lower than the rest of the age demographics. Pokémon Go... A SMARTPHONE GAME which in this same thread everyone is bringing up "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!! Smartphones!!!"

1/3 of Americans is a lot of people. Regardless, I'd rather watch Netflix on a tablet than a smart phone. Their online smartphone app also makes no sense.

I think Netflix will come to Switch but it isn't confirmed. We don't even have a timeline.

How are earth is Nintendo launching a tablet without tablet functions?

This tickles me greatly.

Has it been further clarified that the Switch won't have Netflix at all rather than just at launch? Because I'd lean more to that they will hold it back until they roll out their online plans as I bet it will be behind a paywall.

Whoa! lol!

You only have Nintendo to blame for being out of touch with gamers and for baffling decisions that spreads this discontent.

Hopefully not. Netflix is its own paywall. I am keeping my pre-order because mobile Zelda is too good to pass up, but I have some genuine concerns that I hope Ninty will address soon. We are just over a month away from release and there are still way to many questions about the Switch.

Was anyone else excited to have a Netflix box connected to their TV that's much more energy efficient than their current consoles? I know Rokus and Apple TVs exist but I don't need them

Yooooooooo.
I just had a crazy ass idea. Nintendo can completely avoid a lot of drama regarding the lack of browser, Netflix, etc if they allowed you to cast your phone screen to it.

It would solve a lot of issues.
I know it would not solve everything, but it would be a good start.

I mean it's weird, but come on, it's not a dealbreaker. I've got a phone, a tablet, 2 Rokus, an XB1 and Wii U in rotation with Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/Plex clients installed. I don't think I've even bothered installing/logging into any of those with my PS4 yet either.

They have more or less cautioned everything as at launch giving them wiggle room. I expect Netflix eventually. Web Browser never.

Maybe if the Netflix developers pretend that they make a mobile game they could get accepted by Nintendo. That seems to work better anyhow.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Why would you wanna cast from a +5 inch device to a 6inch device? At that point most people would just watch the content on their phone.

What a fucking stupid move by Nintendo if true.

When they gave up on matching the other consoles in terms of power, they had one opportunity to carve out a place in the market, and that was by releasing THE premier tablet for core gamers. But how are they ever going to convince consumers to drop their current tablet for one that doesn't have Netflix, Facebook, Twitter or an internet browser? It's just not going to happen.

Was Netflix on the Wii U/3DS at launch? I know Hulu wasn't.
The only way we never get Netflix on this thing is if it bombs hard right out the gate. Netflix still supports the Wii, I can't imagine a reason they wouldn't want to jump onto the Switch once it gets rolling.

I wouldn't want to wear out the Switch's non-removable battery watching Netflix anyway... I have other devices that I can watch it on.

Depends what you define gamer by.

Could have they clarified some things since the January reveal : yes.
Can you criticize them for the value proposition they give you: yes.

But we also need to take into account that Nintendo has the right to filter the customers they want to bring over.
