I am so in on this. And I love microtransactions so I'm super fine with it.

[edit] Wait a moment, I rather play Final Fantasy: Brave Excivius come to think of it. Final Fantasy is my thing.

After Mario, a premium title I really enjoyed, this was NOT what I was expecting.

I kinda wish they made the other way around (Mario f2p and Fire Emblem premium).

You are an odd breed.

I agree with Pitta -- I would have preferred an F2P'd Mario and a premium FE.

I'd be fine with F2P if it wasn't gacha. I know I was naive in expecting Nintendo to stick to premium releases on mobile, but I was hoping they would steer clear of the bottom of the barrel as far as whale-focused systems go. Oh well, gacha games are big moneymakers in Japan so I guess this was inevitable.

Even without the F2P aspect, what the hell is with the tiny maps? Does Nintendo not realize there's been plenty of robust SRPGs on mobile with large maps and then touch interface actually can be an asset?

Honestly sounds like trash to me.

What are some good SRPGs on mobile? I'm a fan of the genre but haven't paid much attention to mobile games in recent years, though I'm playing more now that I have a new phone. Fire Emblem just doesn't look great.

Well, you have one of the best SRPGs of all time, Final Fantasy Tactics on the platform. That's my #1 recommendation to folks looking for a SRPG. Tactics Maiden would probably be high on the list, too.

Banner Saga 1 & 2
Templar Battleforce
Deathwatch (not to much on the RPG side but excellent)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Demon's Rise 2 (first one is decent but I'd go for the second one)
Galactic Keep (kind of a cross with a board game but SRPG mechanics)

Just to name a few.

Binding of Isaac is really not clicking with me. It's difficulty makes any progress negligible.

Edit: I'm going to keep playing for a little bit to see if it clicks, but right now I can't reliably get past the first boss.

I had the same issue when I first started playing the original version, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. It definitely clicks though. The game is all about learning enemy patterns and dodging at first.

Kingdom: New Lands Gallops Onto iOS and Android on January 31st! (Incredible game, $9.99, full version):
http://rawfury.com/kingdom-new-lands-gallops-onto-ios-and-android-on-january-30th/

And:

The creators of the amazing "A Dark Room" have released a new game on iOS "Super Gridland":
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/super-gridland/id1158436270

that does look good!

Cobra makes some really great premium mobile games and this seems like an absolute blast. It's an open-world puzzler/slider in which you unlock new skills, items and you can backtrack etc.

This shouldn't be missed by anyone who likes premium games built with mobile in mind.

Wow at Super Gridland, a premium match-3 Im in!!!

Edit: bought both since I need new games and most of what left are endless runner that are stapples on my iPhone.

Super Gridland is a match-3 that has you matching to build at day and fight at night. You start on day 1 and try to survive as long as you can. If you die, back to square one.

Edit 2: there doesnt seem to be any resource management at all and is very harsh. Tiles just dissapear fast as I match (there are a lot of chains happening at once, feel generous) but I keep dying over and over at night since it feels so generous and there are so many chain reactions I dont feel I have much control at night trying to match sword tiles... and back to square one all the time. No upgrades or anything. Permadeath.

Edit 3: seems a bit barebones compared to other match-3 games on iOS and is very harsh. Not liking it very much at

Now onto the other one...

Edit 4: the music track is catchy but the loop is very short and is already repetitive...

Now really onto the next! High hopes with the Cobra Mobile game...

Here's a breakdown and strategy guide for the original Gridland. The new one might have more elements

Much like Dark Room, I believe it evolves as you progress

Yep. It is nice. And the falling from platform to platform is a bit of a twist (and usually when I die missing one).

Which should I get,Nvidia Shield or Apple TV for mobile games on TV?

Shield has more power, Emulation and android ports of The Witness, Borderlands Etc. Is more expensive $200

Apple Tvs seems to have a better mobile library overall. Cheaper, $150.

They'll be my secondary console besides probably the Switch or PS4

Finally posted my GOTY list. Am I the only here who played Zombie Exodus?
1. Sorcery 4 ; The epic complex sprawling conclusion to Inkle's fantasy saga is everything I hoped for, and somehome continued to expand on the already grand scope of 2 and 3
2. Imbroglio ; Michael Brough's newest game is a simple-on-the-surface, yet surprisingly-deep hybrid of card game, board game, and roguelike
3. Samorost 3 ; Gorgeous, charming, and playful, this just might be Amanita Design's best work
4. RYB ; I've seen RYB described as "Hexcells meets The Witness", and that's an apt description for this vibrant logical puzzler that teaches through experimentation and puzzle design
5. Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven ; A huge work of interactive fiction to rival even Inkle's work, with an extensive RPG component including stats to manage, items and gear to use, and myriad paths to take.
6. Bullet Hell Monday ; A frenetic kaleidoscopic adrenaline rush of shmup, with perfectly bite-sized stages and a plethora of game-changing unlocks and secrets to unlock
7. Snakebird ; Don't be fooled by Snakebird's colorful cute facade. It's one of the most challenging and rewarding puzzle games on mobile (or anywhere for that matter)
8. Reigns ; Reigns' clever card-based design presents an ever-expanding game of kingdom management in a very mobile-friendly package
9. Demon's Rise 2 ; A massive and challenging strategy RPG with large-scale ruthless battles and a dark fantasy twist with unique classes
10. Love You To Bits ; This sci-fi successor to Tiny Thief is just as charming and even more inventive

Honorable Mentions
x. Fallen London
x. Leap of Fate
x. Teeny Titans
x. Circa Infinity
x. Yankai's Triangle
x. Mini Metro

I may not be the best judge having not had an Apple TV but I'd say the Shield TV is a far superior unit overall. Even iOS centric gaming sites like Touch Arcade have touted it over the Apple TV for gaming.

Yes, Apple TV may have more games but Apple really killed it in many ways by not only not requiring a controller but also forcing devs to support its remote. That restriction is now gone but it hurt a lot in initial adoption by devs. A lot of people think Apple wrongly put gaming as secondary. Maybe that will change if they ever come out with another unit.

Nvidia built the Shield TV with gaming in mind. Not only with exclusives on Android but also with PC game streaming and its own game streaming service. And, of course, emulators are a huge bonus. Doesn't hurt that it also boasts 4K and HDR for media streaming too.

It also has expandable storage (SD on the older units, USB on the new ones).

Exclusive wise, you've got things like The Talos Principle, Tomb Raider (2013), GoNNER, Half-Life 2, Portal, Borderlands 2, Titan Souls, Hotline Miami 1/2 and others that may never be on iOS. The Witness already is on it but will be coming to iOS too. Of course, if you have something like a PS4, some of those may not matter.

Those are my thoughts but I also use it to compliment my iOS gaming not replace it since there are still way more games on iOS as a whole than Android. I haven't kept up too much with Apple TV support of those games though. Most of the iOS games I play are better suited to touch screen anyway.

I'd also say you might want to look into the older Shield TV if you can find one on eBay or elsewhere. I like the SD card capability better than the USB option and it is being updated with the same OS which will make it identical to the new one (same processor). Only benefit of the new one is the controller which I hear is better but you could even buy one of those and it will work with the older version of the console.

Super Gridland isnt for me... I prefer more "relaxed" match-3 like Dungeon Raid, Darkin,....

Now, for real, to Red's Kingdom...

Holy cow guys! Red's Kingdom is fantastic! Is more of an adventure than a puzzler, with seamless levels, open world, a story with quests (have to find 3 crystals to open...) and more! Each screen is a puzzle that you need to solve in order to advance, there are different routes to take, many things to explore, powers to gain, NPCs to meet... seems more like Zelda than a traditional puzzler with outstanding production values! Go Cobra Mobile! Level 3 and going...

Speaking of relaxing match-3s, I need recommendations! I love Dungeon Raid, have already played Puzzle Quest, and like things like Bejeweled and whatnot, but I don't like games like Candy Crush where you are given a very limited number of moves to remove an impossible amount of tiles. Any help in this regard would be great! Just need something super chill to play when it's late at night and my fiancée is asleep (he always falls asleep before me, I'm a massive night owl).

Have you played You Need to Build a Boat / 10000000 ? Granted it's not "super chill" but it's quite good.

You also have Hero Emblems, Puzzle Quest 2, Monster Ate My Condo, Super Glyph Quest, Triple Town, PuzzleCraft...

Played all of those. While I like YMBAB and its ilk, it's just too frantic to play in bed with a sleeping partner next to me.

Haven't tried Super Glyph Quest, though. I really liked the first one, so maybe I'll give that a shot.

Also, I LOVED Triple Town. If there's anything else like that, that's perfect!

Swap Sword is a pretty good match-3 too.

Splitter Critters releases next week. Premium app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFBV_u5YZF0

Iron Hide Games announced a new Kingdom Rush game. And the futuristic RTS, Iron Marines, is in beta. https://twitter.com/ironhidegames

Kingdom: New Land coming january 31st. Premium. 3.99 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCkhhwvKz2s

Monster Ate My Condo

A tear came out from my left eye as I read this. So sad to see this disappear into oblivion. And the devs dont even care... they should be proud of this masterpiece... but no...

Played them all and there nothing like DR. Darkin tried to do it with some success but suddenly vanished from the AppStore. At that level, nothing else stands out. Hero Emblems is great but too hard and grindy, 1000000 too fast for me...

Red's Kingdom is absolutely incredible. Hands down one of the biggest surprise I've had on iOS in quite a while. It oozes with charm, the art is absolutely gorgeous and amazingly slick on iPad and it just feels so well built. From the simple, touch-controlled mechanic they are able to build an expansive world with an insane amount of things to do and some secret lore that you can get from items. I feel like this would be well received on any console and should be on anyone's list.

This is the kind of game that I want to see on mobile and we need to support those premium effort. Cobra really are an amazing team of developers.

Yeah, like KC says, I wouldnt miss Reds Kingdom

Awesome! I've had Iron Brigade on my radar forever and I'll devour any new Kingdom Rush game they put out--it's my iOS tower defense GOAT.

For me they are the best in tower defense as well. It is rumoured that this time around you will play as the bad guys in the new KR! I hope so...

Actually I think Ironhide's Futuristic RTS is called Iron MARINES, not Iron Brigade (the name of the Double Fine Mech Tower Defense game).

I'm definitely looking forward to it too, I've been waitng for Iron Marines to come out all of last year, and was really disappointed when it kept getting delayed.

Great to hear that a new Kingdom Rush is coming out too. That series is probably my most played across both Android and iOS. Can't get enough of them.
