Sony is really pushing Horizon!

Starting in November they had it in their holiday sizzle reels showing what's coming. Saw advertising on YouTube in December. Posters are plastered up on Gamestop's windows. Saw big boxes advertising it at Best Buy on their game rack. And this is before they start really marketing it around release. It could be Uncharted levels of marketing.

I'm thinking they may put a trailer in a movie that releases in February. It would be cool if they had a console bundle for it too but that may not happen until the holidays.

With how they've been marketing it so far and what they might do during its release, do you think this will be a mega hit for them like Uncharted? I think it may be pretty close if done right and it gets good critical reception. It's already pretty high on Amazon despite being a month out.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
I've seen several films at the cinema this year and there's nearly always been an advert for this game already. Hell, I think it started in December IIRC.

It's a great thing to see a AAA action adventure with a solo female main character (when was the last time we got that? Beyond Good and Evil?) again. Especially with this marketing push.

I expect great things.

Rise of the Tomb Raider?

I kinda consider "Action-survival" to be different from pure adventure. The first snowy forest section of the game cements that pretty solidly for me. Oddly, enough more games like that have female protagonists.

ReCore? "AAA" can be argued

Recore is definitely a mid tier in terms of budget. In quality it could be argued but it's a divisive game.

Good.

Probably not there day 1, but glad they're getting behind a game outside of the usual conferences, because they haven't seemed to in a while.

Tomb Raider and its sequel. Recore

Seems like a game could be both.

Sorry Sony but my Horizon money turned into Switch money.

I'll check back in with you maybe this summer during the usual game drought.

What is 'action survival' and how does it related to RotTR?

Good luck with that, lol.

But still, always nice to see someone celebrating an AAA game having a female lead while forgetting every game that does in the past 10 years, you're part of the problem dude. :D

Definitely. Sony has said on multiple occasions that they see franchise potential in Horizon, so this doesn't surprise me. Glad to them pushen this game with its brilliant artstyle that looks very good all around!

All indications are that this game has massive potential. Sony is doing what we all say they should with these exclusives, and it's fantastic to see.

Man, I can't wait to play this game.
Almost happy for the Persona 5 delay (Almost.....) because I know Persona would have kept me from giving this game the full attention it deserves.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I'm not surprised. If this game takes off its basically a franchise and a big one for Sony. Not too mention open world games are the hot thing and I'll be honest, if they can make one with more than ok to competent combat I'll be very happy. The fact its a beauty and has a cool female lead are just icing on the cake.

Remember that quote about "You'll want to protect the New Lara Croft" from the first reboot game? To me that says everything about the direction of the game. The main character is someone you shelter rather than someone who progresses on their own adventure out of desire. RoTR is actually somewhat interesting as it tries to blend the two far more than the original did (Lara has an explicit motivation to go on the adventure rather than being forced into it by a shipwreck) but the mechanical similarities make it less convincing to me.

That quote has nothing to do with the direction of the game whatsoever. It's a pure action adventure game.

This does't make any sense. Both TR games are still AA games and not what you are calling 'Action Survival'. What you are talking about is just one stupid quote that ppl took out of context. There is nothing about protecting Lara in ROTTR.

Gravity Rush 2 launched yesterday. And the next Uncharted, come to think of it. And The Last of Us 2.

Not in the UK.

Yea, I didn't really want to post something that just goes straight in the face of the OP's premise, but I was thinking how I've seen almost nothing about the game. I very distinctly remember a lot of the ads for games that were on over christmas and I've been into a bunch of game stores lately (I was intrigued whether they would bother to put switch stuff up where I'm at) and I've saw basically nothing for the game. Could be I just happen to watch and see all the opposite places they chose to go with for this game. You might think Nintendo don't advertise their stuff but if you have a kid and put on Cartoon Network in the morning or afternoon, they absolutely drill that stuff.

ReCore? "AAA" can be argued

Despite a point in the story where the budget obviously fell off a cliff, I enjoyed the heck out of ReCore. I agree about "AAA" being in dispute, because it was advertised a lot early on, but obviously wasn't a full-throated push by the end with a deep budget like it appeared at reveal.

That being said, I think when Tomb Raider, ReCore, Dishonored 2, Bound, Gravity Rush 2, Mirrors Edge 2 and several more recently had women at the fore, I think this idea that Horizon in particular is breaking a mold is myopic.

In a day and age where more people are picking and choosing what they spend their money on at any given time, it might have something to do with a new Zelda game that's launching three days later.

I'll be getting them both, mainly to get the pre-order discount from Amazon on Horizon, but I'm far more hyped for the other.

Huh may be different in the UK then but in the US it certainly has a lot of pre marketing push. I haven't seen it in theaters though like that other guy already mentioned.
