Isn't YSO predicted something like 50k for GR2. So GR2 did much better then the prediction, even the predictions of GAF. But worldwide is a different story

Based on its sell through it didn't beat the productions from the second most important party: retailers.

I bet Sega thought they could use the Valkyria IP to sell more copies of their shit JRPGs that normally come under the Shining IP... oh wait

[PS3] Shining Resonance (Sega, 12/11/14) – 67,282 (New)

Never thought about it but yeah, it does bear a lot of similarities to Resonance and it's from the same developers.

I'm glad Media Vision are getting work (they'll always be special to me because of Wild ARMs) but it's a shame to see them making such a mess of this game.

When the first GR launched in Japan, there were only 566,000 Vitas sold.

And here are people posting that the numbers are a success, which is kind of a big joke. The numbers are bad in my opinion for a full blown PS4 release and the numbers we have heard outside of Japan speak of a total bomb.

I am not surprised at all by it and so should have the Sony brass but of course Shu thought this would be a smart move.

Do you really think Sony greenlit The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 thinking that they would be huge sellers? Lol

These are the types of games they make to diversify thier library and attract nerds like me.

If 9.33% digital is average then Nintendo's 1.6% for Super Mario Maker is an absolute travesty.

For PS4 <10% is low to average. If you want to compare it with 3DS zero digital share for kids franchises go ahead.

In what context?, that I was right from the beginning?

There is no way that Sun & moon will have better legs than X/Y especially that Nintendo Switch is coming and also Pokemon Stars is expected to come out this year.

OK you were right. I'll quote this post in the furure.

Because 20 million people will buy Switch in 2017/2018 in Japan? Sure it will have legs. Nobody is going to be buying kids Switch till price drops.

Ok, maybe Switch release would not affect Its legs that much, but the announcement of Pokemon stars definitely will affect it.

I also still have some doubts that Stars will come exclusively on the Switch. I have a hard time believing TPC would release a new mainline game on a new platform on its first year.

I'm expecting multi-platform release 3DS/Switch.

That's not how GR has been marketed though. It's a game that has it's roots on the Vita the Otaku black hole of consoles and is seen as some as having a "waifu" protagonist which you occasionally hear from it's fanbase. These factors alone explain why it's not treated as ghibli movie game. The fact it doesn't have panty shots etc doesn't matter too much to a more casual consumer they don't research to that depth. If you were to ask random gamers with a cursory awareness of gravity rush but have not actually played the game ghibli would not be particularly high on it's set of description.
That's the issue isn't it? Marketing has been horrible for this game and the predecessor on PS4. It's not a waifu/Neptunia type game at all and instead of emphasizing the good points of the title they just dropped it.

Edit:
Um... Am I missing something? They had very similar first week sales in Japan. Or were the worldwide numbers for the Last Guardian decent?

The Last Guardian 68.368 107.940 107.940 0 SIE 08/12/2016

01./00. [PS4] Gravity Rush 2 <ADV> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2017.01.19} (¥6.900) - 69.092 / NEW <40-60%>
Last Guardian charted in NPD. I think the numbers bandied around were 200ish K just US.

I was talking about the Western sales.

TLG had big YouTubers promoting it like JackSepticEye and PewDiePie. Gravity Rush 2? No idea if they even bothered with it.

Did Birthdays have a physical copy? Well either way, rip. Not expecting much from the west either.
Probably should have made a Harvest Moon clone instead - like Stardew.

Yes.

I think they made a poor choice not having a handheld SKU, but it seems like ASW has ditched Vita and probably didn't want to wait for Switch.

Software for 3DS came close between the 2 trackers this week but there are still big differences at LTD. Shipments from Nintendo in a few days maybe will show the real picture for some games.

Christ, I didn't realise Birthdays was this week. What on earth were they doing with that game? What's most odd is that NISA seem to be pushing it more than any of their recent games in the west. I wonder what appeal they think it'll have.

Missing out of any of the handheld market (especially 3DS, but even Vita at a push) was really a strange move.

Next week in "I forgot that was releasing", re-skinned Neptunia U aka Drive Girls for Vita.

Not quite sure what they're going for with that one even given the abundance of better-looking games of this type on the console.

Seriously speaking though I hope the ~120k sales Scarlet Grace is currently at is enough to consider funding another game, hopefully with a bigger budget this time.
Been playing through the SNES SaGa series lately myself and quite like them despite not knowing what to do half the time.

Also I'm confusing as to what happened to Romancing Saga 2 on the digital list. It was ranked high last month.

As I mentioned some time ago, GTA and Minecraft will outsell Persona 5 next week, Dark Souls III should be outselling Knack when the GOTY edition comes out, Yakuza 6 should just barely outsell Dragon Quest Heroes, apart from that this list won't change until Dragon Quest XI comes out.

Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition - 411.350
Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition - 355.000 (super old number)

Minecraft - 2.506.272

The only western developed game to have sold more than Minecraft is the original Donkey Kong Country.

Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker - 1.061.156
Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS - 1.042.904

Which is average too. Square celebrated for XV digital sales with PR.

Thats was Asian digital sales no?

Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition - 355.000 (super old number)

Minecraft - 2.506.272

The only western developed game to have sold more than Minecraft is the original Donkey Kong Country.

Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker - 1.061.156
Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS - 1.042.904

16 months of sales vs. 8 weeks.

FFXV made it past 1 million. Had better legs than I thought it would. From the data we can see this is entirely due to Noctis. Noctis saved FF.

And you guys said FFXV would be the worst selling of the series since FFIII when its clearly on its way to outselling it
s DS remake.

How dare Shu greenlit a great game. Getting more variety into his 1st party output. How dare he. He should only make sequels for games that were insta million sellers.
Worked great for the competition, as I can see.

When the first GR launched in Japan, there were only 566,000 Vitas sold.

Haven't Chris and others said that oftentimes the sales of a product are only really limited by install base if they are bigger titles? Like how the port of Xenoblade barely sold more on 3DS, but something like Mario Maker selling gangbusters on 3DS shows it being limited by Wii U's install base? Doesn't Gravity Rush fall under the former bucket? It's not like GR Remastered sold all that well on PS4. GR2 selling better is great to see though.

Your way of thinking is why I think Microsoft is a bad 1st party publisher. Sony shouldn't follow suit.

Exactly.

Go ahead, Shu. More Tokyo Jungle, more Patapon, more LocoRoco, more Puppeteer, more The Last Guardian, more rain, Journey, more Bound, more more more.

I doubt only mainstream games would suffer from a userbase <600k. GR did 100k LTD at retail on Vita and has over 7000 ratings on J-PSN. While not great, it's a show of some legs for a fairly short single player action game.

Next week in "I forgot that was releasing", re-skinned Neptunia U aka Drive Girls for Vita.

Not quite sure what they're going for with that one even given the abundance of better-looking games of this type on the console.

I'm expecting complete like 6k. The game looks like it was made for the cost of lunch.

While they haven't gotten to the Halo/Gears/Forza level of lineup doldrums, Sony is clearly going down that path. They've basically killed off all region-specific game development outside of MLB and have shifted the experimental games to indies.

FF3 FC shipped 1.4m, FFXV sales are between FF2 (760,000) and FF3 sales.

These sales are already devastating my January predictions, lol. But I'm glad a lot of these fared way better than I anticipated
except Valkyria....

Kazuo Hirai

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
Please not just think about Japan+Western, unlike MicroSoft, Sony own a decent Asia market
Japanese games usually publish Asia Version much earlier than western or even simultaneous, like Yakuza 0 already out here 2 years ago, why? I think because it sell more than western ,like Sega said they ship Yakuza Kiwami 200k Asia(Chinese) version day 1, even more than Japanese Version.
PS Asia also put Gravity Rush Remastered in the PS+, I think it will help sales

GR2 launch was okay, but that shipment number doesn't make it good enough I'm afraid. :(

If Pokemon doesn't settle for a good number, it will never outsell X/Y. Pokebomba indeed.
I know it's not a bomb, but comparatively speaking, it's selling less and less with each new generation since D/P/Pt.
