It remains perhaps the most prolific of the NYC meet-ups to date, and thought it would be a great time to celebrate the occasion!

MeetUp FAQ - Shamelessly stolen

How long have these things been around?
See the OP here for a documented list of all the NYC GAF meet ups to date: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=170651251&postcount=1

But I'm not a social butterfly and prefer to stay home to x activity. Strangers are weird.

”Do not be too timid or too unsure about your actions. All life is an experiment." Yeah, we don't know you and have never met but if you want to get over that, the best way to do it is to go out and socialize. We were all strangers at some point before we met.

I'm banned and/or stopped posting. Can I still come out?
The more, the merrier so feel free to show up!

How many people typically come out?
Typically 10-25 people; it consists of regulars and new comers. We've had GAF members visiting the city from abroad come out and join us as well. If you're not a fan of big groups, like GAF itself, those big groups split up into smaller groups of discussion so no worries.

How long do these meetups last? Do you peeps always meetup at one location or move around the city?

In a nutshell, they go as long as they want so long as there's still a party left long after many people bail. The first location is the jump off point to other places once a decent party shows up. We've usually ended up in White Castle or walking several blocks north through the city during the wee hours of the night.

Do I have to drink to be cool with you all?
Nobody will pressure you to drink so if it's water or soda you want, more power to you. But if you drink, make sure you keep an eye on how much you consume because we preferably want you to get home safe. A couple of GAF members have been unfortunate victims of muggings after we parted ways from past meetups.

But I'm poor and I'm trying to be frugal! Rent isn't cheap you know!
We all have bills to pay and are willing to take some of our time to meet up; one night out isn't going to kill your budget. If anything, someone will buy you a drink and/or share food.

Oh no! It's too cold/hot to be outside! You guys are crazy!
Dress accordingly then. While weather is something to keep an eye on, it's not a factor so the show must go on.

What if I want to play the latest hot video game that came out?

Turn off your console/PC, bring your portable gaming device, and let's play something with multiplayer.

This is going to be really awkward isn't it?
It's only awkward if you make it awkward for yourself. You're welcome to bring name tags or get creative.

Where I can go air out my grievances about how expensive NYC is when there isn't a meetup?
The NYC GAF OT. :)

As I mentioned before, I have to be at work by 9am the next day and will be exhausted so I'm on the fence and will play it by ear. I'll more than likely show up after I get some food and will bail out around 10pmish at earliest, midnight at latest. This would be the first meet up where I won't stay for the entirety of it.

Would moving it back a week help anyone?

Nah, I think you should stick to your guns. There's no need to move it back. Even if even it you postpone it by one week, there's always going to be people that won't be able to make it because they have a social engagement that day or will be out of town. There's always the next meet up.

Well, I'm in.

You should all go to the Museum of Moving Image in Astoria and get on the He Will Not Divide Us stream.

These guys don't like going into Queens. If they did I'd say hit up The Strand Smokehouse or the Beer Garden, the huge tables would be perfect for us in the summer.

I will fucking be there!!!! I wanna meet real life gaffers!

You can all help me deal with the wait for switch.

Aritisan - I will twist something up for us.

Well I'm like 10 blocks far from the location so might as well join you guys & if I do, ya'll in there will be my very first friends in US since i got none..:(

The more, the merrier as the saying goes! Picture the Stone Cutters scene where everyone singing and drinking and that's what you get. Except that there's some folks checking their phones.

I wonder how much that bar has changed in the past 5 years. All I remember was a Deer Hunter game but that was about it. It's a bit of a small sized bar that gets crowded easily.

Maybe. I've been trying to crash a NY meetup for ages now.
It would be interesting to see a fish out of water in our own backyard. I'm going to be MIA from PAX East this year so I will miss you Boston lot sorely. I will also miss doing my yearly tradition of having the Giant Bomb peeps sign my badge. But that's mitigated by Ryckert now living in the area because he's going to organize more local meet ups. However, I might sign up to volunteer at Anime Boston because volunteers get pretty sweet perks so visiting Boston might not entire off the table for the year.

On the flip side, I'm going to Chicago for the first time ever so I'm excited to see a new city because I've never been anywhere past the east coast. I'm looking forward to trying out their beers, acting like a tourist, and trying out their fabled pizza.

I feel like some people have been winding down on PAX or skip for Anime Boston. Starting to think all of the covenetikns, including Comic Con are just blending together for some.

I've been looking for an excuse to NY for the longest time having only been in Brooklyn for about a year. It's really not that bad of a ride from here at all. All I ever do now is just head to Yankee Stadium and back really.

Would it be alright if I brought a friend or two? They're not gaffers but they're cool people looking to make new friends.

Typical Boston Red Sox fan going from Yankeee Stadium to Fenway Park and vice versa. Thy sworn enemy. Only I don't care about baseball except until World Baseball Classic. Let's go Dominican Republic.

Bring em. Who cares if they're not GAF members? Gibut promised the same thing too once. You tell em we're like the Stone Cutters so they don't know we NeoGAF. We're a bunch of your friends.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Valentines Day may be one day of the year
But you're on NeoGAF every other day of the year.
