Glitchskier is really fun. It's sorta like a shmup version of Downwell. The levels are procedurally generated, dying starts you back at the beginning, there are loads of power ups, and you can actually change the color palette of the game through unlocks. Beating the first two bosses was fairly simple but after that it gets really hectic with many enemies that continually track you until they're destroyed. Haven't tried endless mode yet but I might get to that after I've beaten the campaign first.

I can vouch for this too. Great game and, in addition to what you've said, I'd add that the music is fantastic. Also like the use of ASCII characters and other computer-ish objects. Well done all around.

Quite surprised at how much I like Fire Emblem Heroes. It's fast, fluid and fun even if it's a bit simplistic. The F2P aspect isn't bothersome for now but that energy system + gatcha has to be kicking in at some point.

My exact same feelings.
In the past I always abandoned gatcha games after 2 hours at most.

I just hope the story to be a bit meatier than just 'defeat every hero in every world to break their contract'.

I... wouldn't count on that. It's getting lighter and lighter if that's even possible.

Are you also getting some weird lags? It happens sometimes and for no particular reason on my iPad.

I'm more into Final Fantasy: Bravd Exvius. Ever since giving it a try last year I've been addicted and played it every day. Got some awesome units too.

After fiddling around with it for a few days, I'm sad to say that I'll be deleting Z-Exemplar. The controls just do not work for this type of game. The dynamic v-stick has too much lag to be efficient, the drag stick is the smoothest but has a hitch where your ship will keep moving in the last direction you were dragging to even when you take your finger off the screen. The dev recently patched in a d-pad that was supposed to be a better control scheme, but it's far too slow for the fast-paced nature of the gameplay to be effective. Controls should really be as fast and smooth as possible for a game where one projectile can end your run instantly.

I really hope the dev can resolve these control issues in the future because there actually is a fun and addicting game hiding behind all that.

Got Steins:Gate (or whatever the punctuation is) and REALLY liking it. I usually play games with no sound, but I use headphones for this one. Hit me for the first time tonight that if I ever need to plug my phone in I can't use headphones. So this game is battery only unless I get an adaptor. Huh.

Hasn't been an issue (I don't use my phone much during the workday and so usually have plenty of battery) but I still don't approve of a proprietary (let alone lone) headphone port.

This sentence is reserved for reiterating how much I like this game - it's fantastic.

Anyone having issues with the App Store? I am having problems downloading anything. Tried restarting. No dice.

And my Internet is fine.

Nope, downloaded MissileMan and Glitchskier just fine right now. Only gave me a strange warning saying that if I downloaded the game within 15 days of purchase I wouldn't be able to refund it. No biggie since they are both very promising so far.

Maybe it's the US store? I don't know.

It looks like another new world is coming to Plants vs. Zombies 2. Seems like it has Zombies with Pyramid and Brick hats. Maybe it'll be a mix of the different eras, but that was what the last level was, so I'm curious what the theme will be.

They did a big update where you can upgrade your plants by getting pinatas with random upgrade points in them.

Amazingly, they didn't mess with the balance of the existing levels to require plant upgrades, but I'm curious to see if this new world will require high level plants to beat them, or if they're still balanced around the base power plants.

Another event with Golden Gombas in Mario Run. Surprised to see Nintendo's post launch support with this one, especially after they said that they wouldn't update the app.

Cant decide whether game is better, Missileman or Glitchskier. Both do their own things with solid results, both are fun, both are like an ascending Downwell... while I decide I will be playing both in short bursts one after the other...

Just got an iPhone so I guess I'm back on iOS. Really grateful this thread exists since I haven't bought any iOS games since 2013. Just looking over the posts here it's amazing how far things have progressed with console and indie ports.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
I play way too much Card Crawl.. and after working for way too many games to get the last 2 quests unlocked I realized you can get them through the constructed decks.

I feel like a moron.. holy hell is it easier now to get them... the fact I got 4 and 4 for the 120 gold and over 20 health without it is amazing. It was RNG hell.

LOL happened to me too.
When I discovered constructed decks were ok for quests unlocks, a new world opened.

Chances are you will go mental over Card Thief, which I'm testing right now.

Yeah, 120 gold is still a lot RNG.. but it's so much easier.

Did the 20 life in like 20 minutes after discovering it.

Last is 2 more 120 and all unlocked.

Great game.

can't wait for Card Thief!

Fire Emblem just doesn't wanna start on my iPad Pro. Tried the usual; hard restart, reinstall app, free up lots of space, etc. The app shows up, does some brief loading for a few secs where the version number shows up at the bottom of the screen, then it suddenly dies without warning.

Anyone else dealt with this? Is it meant to be downloading client updates here or what?

Going over my backlog, I was disappointed to see that Dead Space doesn't work properly in iOS 10. Any similar games out there to fill the void?

On a positive note I noticed Neon Shadow got an update (back in 2014) for offline multiplayer with bots. It's not a bad first-person shooter and looks like it's free right now in the App Store.

The already way too cheap Rush Rally 2 is down to $.99. If you like rally racing at all, it's a must buy. Easily the best in the genre on mobile (and amazing made by one person!).

I forgot a comma between Zen and exclusive. So to not confuse, all versions are getting the relaxing Zen mode. While the iPad 12.9 gets an exclusive multiplayer mode.

Speaking of games I'm liking, I'm actually playing Dungeon Rusher which is coming soon to iOS.
It's actually way more fun and deeper than I expected despite the 'humourous' setting.

Great old school D&D party feeling.

I'm getting iPhone 7 next week and I need gaming recommendations. I've used Android for the past 6 years, so I'm out of loop from iOS gaming aside from what I played on iPad 1 back in 2010. I remember Infinity Blade was really cool.

I want something to see what sort of graphics it can pull off. I like action games, RPGs and some simpler games I can use to kill time. Hearthstone is on my list since I play that already. I'm getting 128GB version so memory isn't an issue.

I have an iPad Pro and assumed I'd love graphic-heavy games (being a huge fan of them on PC) but honestly I haven't had much fun from any game that prioritizes visuals yet. Maybe I just haven't been looking in the right place, but Infinity Blade 3, Dungeon Hunter 5, and CSR2 are big visual hits that bored me to tears.

The most fun I've had from iOS games: Super Hexagon, Threes, Catan, FTL, and Plague Inc. All really fun games that feel perfect for touch screens.

If you like stratrgy games, check out Warhammer Deathwatch. It was the first Unreal Engine 4 game on mobile, and is a really solid turn-based game as well

As for overall recommendations, skim through the thread OTs. Each month's OT has a curated list of releases and impressions from the community. There are usually at least 10 recommended games every month, so you have a pretty big selection to check out

Thanks, I've added Warhammer to my list.

I've been playing this game called Evil Factory for the past few days and I'm currently loving it.

It's an action game with virtual controls where you're a small guy with bombs and guns going floor to floor fighting giant bosses. The game is basically one giant boss rush. The game is played in portrait view but the controls don't feel cramped. The in game shops are pretty cool; there's a shop where you can buy better guns and equipment, a helmet shop that sells helmets with abilities, and even an arcade shop where you can buy cartridges to play simple arcade games for coin.

The game does have an energy system but it can be disabled with an $1.99 IAP. There are also currency packs but I'm pretty far in the game and have not felt the need for them yet. I'm surprised more people in here haven't tried it yet.

I had completely missed that game but that pixel art looks gorgeous and the gameplay looks really fun. Downloading now, thanks for the recommendation

Played first 4-5 levels yesterday and i loved it. It looks great, very stylish. And it's fun.

Game called Dungeon Tails released today and seems to be getting pretty good impressions over on TA. Not sure if I want yet another rogue like though. Anyone here try it?

Warlock's Tower dropped to $1.99 (from $3.99). Was on the fence but the drop along with More Badass' review over on PG put me over the top. Gonna give it a shot.

Everyone... stop ignoring Frost and get MissileMan NOW! Golly gosh is it good. Maybe it's the charm, but took the cake over Glitchskier for me. Very pretty game.

Also, anyone have imps from that Card Thief beta?

Much like Card Crawl distilled dungeon crawling to card form, Card Thief is a pretty good stealth/puzzle game. Need to plan ahead and use your tools efficiently. Not sure if it has the longevity of Crawl yet, but it feels as unique and polished
