Ghost Recon Wildlands Closed Beta Discussion Thread

Controls are pretty sticky on PS4 Pro. Turned everything up to 80 but it still doesn't feel snappy.

Also no recreating characters for the beta huh. I mean I know it said finalize you won't be able to change. But I thought that was just meaning you can't alter afterward. Not we can't start over.

What platform do you play the game on?

Please guys specify what platform are you running the game on? if it's PC give specs, it's important for us who didn't get a chance to test it ourselves.

Just played a defence mission with four people. Really chaotic and fun.

The ultimate punishment for death is a very long loading screen. Get revived or be bored.

Hah, nice job screwing up trying to correct somebody.

I'm still at work, how hard is the game? Or rather does the game punish you if you go gun-ho? When i tried watchdogs2 multiplayer it got kinda ruined on how brain dead the AI was and how easy it was to infiltrate or shoot up everyone.

Seems like everyone knows where you are when somebody goes on alert. God that shit is terrible. What's with the muzzle flash on guns? It looks like a fuckin' sprite.

If you reduce de scale to 0.70 you get 50fps~ but the game gets ugly

No, the correct word is sex. As in biological sex.

OMG my bad, people always told that gender was both

Controls are pretty bad on PS4. Hard to describe, really. There's not really input lag or deadzone... but there's a weird zone in the middle of transitions (between walk to run on LS, and in the middle of the aiming acceleration curve on RS) where it feels like a deadzone. So initial input feels alright, but as you hit that transition, responsiveness degrades, and as you push through it, you have massive acceleration on the other side.

It's so weird.

|--- this is fine ---| --- feels like deadzone --- | --- crazy acceleration ---|

Idk. Feels janky, for lack of a better word. As far as other early impressions... friendly A.I. is not good. Embarrassing to give them a move order. Don't even bother. Also tons of pop-in.

Pretty negative first impressions, tbh. Gonna have coffee and breakfast, then play with humans later... see if that helps. The AI is very substandard.

This is only gonna be fun with friends. Friendly AI is annoying as always with these games and want to be tactical. And to order them is way to clunky.

I imagine that PC optimizations are one of the things that will come later unfortunately. Shouldn't require a 1070 to play at 60 fps at 1080. That being said it's not like it's running like a gem on Pro either. 30fps. Not sure what the resolution is though.

This game really has that feeling of scale and giant vistas going for it. Very much like Steep. Controls are a bit heavy/sticky which will take some getting used to, both aiming/shooting and driving. Can't play any more right now unfortunately.

I was afraid of this, another ubisoft game with input lag on console. I can't play shooters with it anymore.

Yeah. The movement and aiming just feels really delayed and not very accurate at all. It didn't help at all that our group played Titanfall 2 for a few hours before the beta went live. Not feeling it at all to be honest...

Actually if they fixed up the weird movement/aiming feeling the game probably wouldn't be so bad. We were having fun in co-op I will admit but every single one of us thought the movement/aiming felt off.

there is definitely input lag on console.

Chopper controls on PC are... Serviceable, but I don't see myself doing any crazy stunts. Definitely need to group up, but I definitely need sleep.

Games got potential, but boy they should've lifted MGSVs controls and feel... I mean all games should so that but this game especially.

Oh shoot I forgot to benchmark... eh I'll do it when I wake up

If this game can't do 60fps at 1920x1080 with a 1070 then sparks are going to fly once word gets out.

Damn, wish I was able to get in. Every video I see the game just doesnt look good, graphically. But I have learned to not trust Youtube. Hopefully they send out a second wave of invites.

I'll spend more time with it before I state it with confidence, but my first impression is that it's not traditional input lag. Your initial input registers fine... it's just not consistent across the stick. There's a transition that happens, into very heavy acceleration on the back-end.

I'm super sensitive to this stuff unfortunately. Wish I wasn't. It really didn't feel like normal input lag.

I tried cranking it to max, 1080p, with an i7-4790 and GTX970 and was juddery. I don't have an eye to tell frame rate, but if I had to guess it was juddering between 30-45, really noticeable when driving. I dropped detail down to "high" and that seemed to take care of most it, made it more stable, but something still feels off.

It's weird not having a sticky cover button - or am I just missing it? Makes combat feel weird. Different from The Division (which I was hoping it would feel more like).

Spots of weird Ubisoft jank but that's to be expected, especially with a beta.

I don't think the best way to start a game is with an uneventful drive in an awkwardly controlling car, but I am guessing they'll clean that up and add some kind of flavor to those first several minutes. It was like "here's a boring helicopter ride with forgettable dialog, now drive for three or four minutes".

And as others have mentioned, this definitely seems like a game for friends.

AI is really disappointing both on the friendly and enemy side. I know some people wanted this to be a coop MGSV but it's just not nearly as well designed in any aspect other than the world itself.

Glaring omissions from stealth mechanics like the ability to grab someone from corner cover or just cover in general is bizarre. There's a distraction grenade in the skill tree that might help with stuff like that but so far it would seem like a waste of resources, especially in co-op.

I will say that at least enemies will hear a death or an silenced round if it's close enough and investigate. So that's something?

That moment when you just say to your AI squad to Hold it and you just go in alone to kill a target. They are just annoying.

Not in on the beta, but looking forward to seeing and hearing impressions

So far they are not good, bad performance on pc even in high end PCs and not-so-high like mine, controls feel weird and a bit obtuse, empty open world with only roads and outposts (so far) vehicle are okay but not tight enough to perform stunts or have fun drive them, both cars I tried felt the same, then the chopper well it gets the job done.

The skill trees are good but it needs a bit of more info about how spend your points, how to earn them and what they are.

The tactical part of the game feels bad, friendly AI is immersion breaking since they don't exact follow your routine, they are just there waiting for orders and those orders need a revamp asap, controls as well are complicated at first then you get used to, not as good as MGSV, not even close.

Bad so far, won't buy at release at this point #cocainehypeisdead

So at this point I hold them on an overwatch and use them occasionally for tandem/ordered shots. They are really quite bad otherwise.

Can't get 60fps with everything on Medium. Have to turn everything to Low to get any where near it. Is this running on The Division engine? That runs perfect for me on high settings and IMO looks much better.

Alright if you cant look at this game, and see the obvious reasons why its running like it is. Then you shouldn't be commenting on performance

It uses .forge files that are used for games done in Anvil (Assassin's Creed, For Honor, R6 Siege) so I think that uses modified Anvil engine.

There is already a 60+ man strong community on UKps4 for Battlefield 1 and lots of those players have expressed a plan to buy Ghost Recon.

Watch this space guys because as soon as the full release comes out I'll be starting up a Gaf group on PS4 too.

Is there anyway to default to the left side when using third person aiming? The game seems to put me on the right more often than not... kind of annoying.

I have way to much the feeling i am playing Far Cry game then a Ghost Recon game. The whole world feels like Far Cry how it behaves etc.

Seems like this will be fun with real friends right now I feel lost at the start.

Animation in cutscenes look pretty bleh and I don't like how you can't shoot multiple civilians (by accident).

Completely agree. The AI are incredibly oblivious and kind of just sit around without any real cover fire. Can't tell the direction silenced fire is coming from at all. I wiped out like 15 with a sniper from near point blank on Ghost difficulty without any AI backup just to see how the enemy would react and their capabilities. 5 of the enemies literally just ran to the place where the last guy has been shot. Kill, next guy runs right to his spot. Shoot, next guy runs to his spot. And on and on. A key component of a tactical squad based shooter is solid AI. If it's a joke on ghost by myself. It will certainly be a joke with 3 teamated.

That being said I guess we could see a lot more "special" enemy types that are more hardy, lay down more accurate fire, flank or are more aggressive etc.

Yeah not feeling the game while I was playing solo and it feels boring as hell. The controls on PC also feel weird, just doesn't feel fluid. Will give it another shot this evening.

Assuming you mean 1080? Of course a 780 isn't going to handle 1440p well.

First game where I had to turn resolution scaling to .70 to get playable frame rates

Assassins creed Unity, Syndicate GTA Watch Dogs, and Rise of the Tomb Raider are all easier to run than this

PS4 PRO First impressions:
-cut scene animations suck
-Shooting feels good
-controls are surprisingly responsive for a TPS UBI game
-driving feels decent
-no cover system is strange
-not sure if PS4 PRO support is enabled. If it is, I don't see it on my 1080p TV.
-lots of potential for really fun moments.
-open world feels like Far Cry 3
-friendly AI acts weird.
-innocent bystander AI is CRAZY. (They will run you over and kill you if you're standing in their way lol)

Looking forward to playing some more when I get home.

It's a pity you can't get rid of the AI completely and just go solo. I would rather go alone than deal with bad AI.

Just played a quick bit on my lunch on X1. Performance is pretty rough, I really hope they can sort this out before launch. Feels fairly unresponsive and clunky. AI is really quite poor. Definitely echo the statements that it feels similar to a Far Cry game. The scale of the world is pretty impressive and the ability to just do whatever you want seems like it'd create some pretty hilarious moments in coop.

How are the graphics? Division level of fidelity?

They should have completely scrapped it early on and made this co-op only. Could have used that time getting the friendly ghosts up to speed on the enemy AI instead and you'd have a better game IMO.

No. It looks nice but obviously the smaller nature of The Division gives it more room to push the fidelity. At least on PC, lol. Forgot those were ps4 pro impressions.
