Fucking finally.

Lol at their "would break compatibility".

Please stop.

If the PS4 had shipped with "boost mode" on by default this forum would have been justifiably filled with threads like "SOMA crashes on PS4 Pro" and you would have been in every single one with contributions like "Laugh out loud Sony".

Sony made a conservative choice, and it was the correct one.

I know this level of honest and transparent communication can look weird to you since you are coming from Xbox and their usual PR fluff.

Need Witcher 3 Novigrad.

There's videos of the swamp, however, Novigrad definitely suffered more in certain areas of the city, and you spent a much longer time in Novigrad compared to the swamp anyway.

So let me get this straight:

- Sony says it would break compatibility near launch
- Several months later FW comes out enabling the functionality but still breaking at least one game we know of so far

Thus... Sony was lying?

Hmmm... not really seeing how that adds up.

They didn't lie, in fact Cerny wording was basically and I'm paraphrasing now that they disabled extra GPU power for unpatched games in order to keep 100% compatibility and avoid running into bugs. with this FW they decided to give us the option to brute force this extra power for unpatched games with huge disclaimer that you might break some games.

Go easy, he's just started the grieving process.

The minor framerate drops in Alien Isolation are now totally gone too.

Tested other rarer titles that run at "close to 60" and can now confirm they are totally locked like Contrast, Costume Quest 2, Dead Nation, Legend Of Kay Remaster, Pure Pool (gone is the stuttering when zooming in and out and round the table), Resident Evil Revelations 2 (now a full 60 in previous trouble spots like in the forest area). Table Top racing is now 60 locked too as this used to dip in certain places.

Dishonored Remaster now locked to 30FPS also in the sewers where it used to drop before.

Or y'know, they worked and improved on it to iron out issues...?

I guess they assumed the worse? Why not give everyone a free boost? Why lie?

I honestly think they just didn't want to assume most games would be fine...but this is awesome anyway :)

Yea..something tells me they were probably already planning on this, but clearly it wouldn't be ready for launch. Now it probably works with a majority of games but you'll get that odd case or two where it doesn't thus the disclaimer.

That said once this is truly up to snuff and the FW gets released I wonder if we'll see Sony put a new marketing focus on the Pro.

That's what I think as well, probably something in the works but issues near launch. That's why etta's post is a bit silly.

A game is broken as of right now that a small pool of beta testers have found out. Clearly, the compatibility issue holds up to even some basic scrutiny here.

For the sake of just trying stuff, I compared P.T. with boost mode on and off. Boost mode seems a bit smoother to me, especially camera movement.

This isn't my video but it could be an interesting one as it is actually getting a Pro patch next week.

Interesting as they're increasing the resolution, draw distance and effects quality which could mean that the unpatched Boost Mode version is going to be the best performing version you'll be able on play on PS4 as the Pro patch enhancements mean it probably won;t run as smoothly.

Fallout 4 with PS4 Pro boost mode

I think Sony hoped that more developers did things right and patched games themselves, that is the right way to use PS4 Pro's capabilities.

Many didn't so they patched games "at system level".
