If they just trim the fat they could maybe get it at $150. But they can do $200 if they give it a 1080p screen and let it operate at full capacity ala being docked. The former especially if they dial down the power to where portable mode is at max (as in you can't do docked power since it's made for portable only, if that makes sense).

To clarify, if the chip does 725Mhz(?) when downclocked in portable mode but it's chip is made to do 900MHz in docked mode, then they can make it so that the chip is only capable of doing 725MHz period. That should be cheaper than using a 900MHz chip it's not meant to use. Hell that might save on battery power maybe also.

That too. But if it plays the same games, it's just the "2DS" of the Switch line.

It doesn't work like that. They could use a smaller process node to save power but it would have to be the same chip.

Sure, i just wanted to reply on what he said that it doesnt matter what something cost to produce. Having lower production costs also means less risk, so long term it could be an advantage too. Its not something that people will have the answer to before they try though.

All true.

That would kill the concept of switch ecosystem in a second

i don't think it would. as long as it has a tv-out, i think it would be fine. it also falls in line with iwata's comments (and probably his idea for the switch line in 2014).

So a couple of more scenarios not being included in the Switch version will be the excuse if D5 doesn't do well on the Switch? Well get used to it I guess, the Switch is going to get plenty more direct ports from 3rd party publishers, if those bomb too, who's fault is it? The publisher, Nintendo, or lack of consumer interest because they already own a PS4, X1 and or a PC.

The discussion from the off has been that the preorders aren't looking great for this game. The comments were that this is a two year old port of a game that didn't do well first time round with nothing new and full price, so it's no surprise that interest is low.

It'd be a different discussion if the ps4 and switch versions were launching side by side.

All this Capcomsplaining is annoying as hell. It doesn't matter in RE7 cost 1 dollar to make.

The game is selling way worse worldwide than previous entries. Less people are playing the franchise.

Losing relevance is never good.

i agree - but i have to think this is less about re7's fault and more about capcom's handling of the series. i have to think that re6 being poorly received and their focus on the revelations spinoff games didn't help matters.

also, this generation is clearly a massive decline over the previous one. fewer people are playing on dedicated hardware as a whole. it's not a surprise when long-running franchises are also down across the board.

Except NIS hasn't released a version of Disgaea 5 that's feature complete with the season pass content included on any other platform. Getting the full package is worth their asking price, especially on a console that's starved for role playing games at launch.

I don't think I Am Setsuna will set the Nintendo world aflame, although I certainly did enjoy reviewing it the first time around.

To me the issue with Capcom is less that Resident Evil 7 is likely to sell less than Resident Evil 5 or 6, and more that they have nothing else going for them.

Like let's take Activision Blizzard. Call of Duty is shrinking, and Skylanders is basically toast. However, everything else is going so well for them that they reported great results and had their stock shoot up through the ceiling.

Similarly, if we just hone in on the Blizzard division, World of Warcraft is unlikely to get back to its peak subscriber base basically ever, but they have lots of growth elsewhere and lots of new potential in the pipeline, so their results are better than ever, and everyone is happy.

Their adjustments also made WoW do better than you might expect otherwise, similarly it's certainly possible an RE7 in the style of RE6 would tank if Capcom couldn't deliver on quality, but the key here is that there were other things going well to make up for the deficit. When there isn't, that's when all the pressure mounts up on the main products to show strong growth, which is the situation Capcom is facing.

Now if they were a private business, this would also matter less, but as a publicly traded company, they're expected to grow, and at some point that has to come out of the products doing better instead of just them cutting all their marketing and development costs.

Rakuten Books Ranking Week 5, 2017 (Jan 30 - Feb 05)

***WARNING***

* Note: Games on the Rakuten Books Rankings are ONLY based on sales at Rakuten Books and does NOT count games sold by other retailers at Rakuten.
** Note 2: Games on the Pre-Orders Ranking are counted as net sales, so it might possibly affect the games listed on the Sales Ranking, since those sales are NOT added afterwards.

--------------

Sorry for not posting photos lately. I've been quite busy.

Nioh is having a good word of mouth. Pre-orders were kinda low, but after the release the game really enjoyed from good comment about it.
ardxvoJ.jpg

Nier, Super Robot Wars y Monster Hunter are having really good pre-orders, especially Nier, that it's been the most reserved game on Rakuten.

Yakuza and Final Fantasy are heavily discounted.

Switch is again available to pre-order. It seems, though, that units are coming at a quicker pace than before, so Nintendo is trying to ensure retailers do have enough stock for the release. Zelda and 1-2-Switch are the most pre-ordered games. Retailers as Santy Shop are pushing reservations of the console alongside a game, they shared some info about percentages: for each three consoles, two Zelda and one 1-2-Switch is being reserved. Dragon Quest and Bomberman are also doing well.

Level 5 ios game delay alert! Lady Layton-chan, no delay ganbare.

http://www.inside-games.jp/article/2017/02/13/105309.html

Snack World for iOS/Android has been delayed to December. 3DS version and anime series currently still slotted for their original release windows.

If it was anyone but Level-5 I'd say this was a strategic delay, but it's Level-5.

Since lots of Level 5 games seem to be getting delayed, I was curious and went back to compare what was shown at their press conference back in July and compare to now, almost 7 months later. Hope it is all accurate:

Yokai Watch for smartphones: Fall 2016 ---> delayed to general 2017 with no new footage shown since the conference
Lady Layton: Spring 2017, announcement video only has 4 screenshots of gameplay footage -----> nothing has been shown since
Megaton Musashi: No date, no actual footage of the game and only 2 screenshots of the game posted ------> nothing has been shown since
Snack World: April 2017 for iOS and July for 3DS, 3 minutes or so of gameplay footage ------> iOS version delayed 8 months, new trailer shown with a couple of seconds of new anime footage but still no game footage shown
Inazuma Eleven Aries: 2017, 0 seconds of gameplay and 0 screenshots shown -----> 2 screenshots of the game shown
Otome Hero: Winter 2016 ---> delayed to Spring 2017, delay announced using the exact same trailer as the first announcement trailer
Yokai Watch: Gerapo Rhythm: March 2017 -----> delayed to general 2017
Yokai Daijiten: November 2016 -----> delayed March 2017
Fantasy Life Online: 2016, name changed from Fantasy Life 2 to Online, game has already had multiple delays at this point -----> delayed to April 2017

....
..
.
What the fuck Level 5. Every iOS/Android game announced has been delayed with the exception of Lady Layton. Inazuma, Lady Layton, Megaten, and Snack World have 0 new gameplay footage since.

It's not like this is our first rodeo. This is how Level5 does business. They overpromise at fan events to puff up the importance of their own company, and then fail to deliver stuff year after year until finally they manage to shit something acceptable out and because Hino has a Midas touch it becomes the next big thing in Japan and makes them billions for a few years before the cycle repeats.

i think that's pretty well in line with what the switch could be.

2017 - switch
2018 - switch mini
2019 - switch 2.0
2020 - switch mini 2.0
2021 - switch 3.0

then by 2021, games made on 3.0 will only work on 2nd gen and 3rd gen switches, slowly dropping previous hardware for new ones.

aside from 1 2 switch there won't be a lot of games that need the joycons anyway. 1 2 switch is really a tech demo of what the joycons themselves can do and i don't foresee a lot of companies, nintendo included, going out of their way to make more exclusive games in that style.

That "poster" is just key art for the game, and they re-used as in-game advertisement.

Looks like my prediction was right:

Level-5 sure has trouble launching stuff on mobile, heh?

...

Right now, I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS version of The Snack World actually ended up releasing first because of Level-5's mobile delay-o-matic machine.

(Mobile: Spring, 3DS: Summer).

Ok, ok, "predicting" Level-5 stuff is delayed (especially on mobile) is like "predicting" on which day Christmas will fall every year :p

Knew it was fishy CoroCoro had nothing about The Snack World. If there's nothing by April 15th (May issue of CoroCoro), then it's safe to assume even 3DS game is delayed. We should hear about the anime soon, if it's debuting in April.

I remember that YW2, YWB and YW3 release dates were revealed in May's CoroCoro issue, and all of these games were July releases. So yes, it's safe to guess that if the 3DS version of Snack World is still releasing this July, it will be announced there.

This going to be the highest selling Compile Heart game ever? Can't remember the Neps and their other stuff on PS3 doing amazingly. Best they did on Vita was:

Moero Chronicle 2014 Compile Heart 32,957 / 61,024
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 2013 Compile Heart 31,811 / 59,913

Cyberdimension certainly seems to be the right game at the right time for them.

It probably will be by the looks of it but keep in mind they shipped 50K+ physically pre-release and have hit 60K+ with digital so it still remains to be seen how much of the actual shipment has been sold.

Well, we had 80% sellthrough from the blog. It's done very well at least, much better than I was expecting when they first announced it.

I saw advertisements for it even at small game shops. I don't follow the series at all, nor do I have a PS4, but even I am tangentially aware of it which is more than I can say about previous releases. Good on Compile Heart, seems to have paid off.

Looks like Fire Emblem Echoes is getting Chinese release, same day as Japanese version.

Fire Emblem Warriors also getting one, later this year. Unfortunately, don't know a word of Chinese, so that's all I was able to figure out.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Why is Nintendo getting a Japanese guy from NoJ to attempted to introduce something to Chinese audiences when he is clearly reading stuff phonetically in a really awkward and non-fluent way?
