Switch - Koizumi confirms Bluetooth headsets - wired 3.5mm jack works while docked

New threads for new news. I didn't see this get it's own thread yet. So here it is.

In a French interview Koizumi confirmed Bluetooth headsets

In addition to working in portable mode, the wired 3.5mm jack on the switch console itself will also still work while docked.

And from what I understand, it appears TV output will only work with the official Nintendo Dock, you wont be able to use just any USB-C to HDMI adapter.

Here's a few tidbits from a French interview with Nintendo's Yoshiaki Koizumi...

- dock is a proprietary format
- you can use a Bluetooth headset
- you can still use the 3.5 jack when the Switch is docked

They better have some direct or something to explain. This cant be the only way we getting this kind of news through translated articles and interviews.

Does this mean my wireless Razer headset will work (USB) or nah?

Nice that the jack will still work when docked, though.

Edit: nvm I checked and nope.

Yeah this was alluded to a couple of times in the dev documents leaked today. everytime the document said there was no microphone on the switch it referenced the mm jack. there is also a dedicated bluetooth button and settings in the os.

Headsets for what, isn't the voice chat all done by the phone app...?

not exactly. what I'm thinking is that party chat is going to be an app only feature

Fantastic, using the headphone jack while docked was like my number one concern. I use the headphone jack on the dualshock 4 pretty much every time I play so it was pretty much a must for me.

The leaked docs hints at Bluetooth headset use, but good to get official confirmation of this. That's really what I want in a handheld, a wireless audio while on the go, batteries be damned.

...hate me...
Good to hear the AirPods might work.

Also whew nice call there on warning about the dock, actually was counting on getting a cheap adapter for other TVs. Bit of a shame actually but yeah. Nevertheless I will
be waiting for people to try it before being sure of it.

What am I missing here? I sure as hell don't have or want a 3.5mm cord long enough to go from my couch to the switch dock?

Headphone jack while docked is that big of a deal? If you have headphone with cords that long then why wouldn't you just plug it into your TV or receiver?

For some, like me, I like my audio at home hooked up in an amplifier. So that set up works with the 3.5mm jack available in docked mode.

Hard to plug headset into your TV or receiver if your TV doesn't have a Jack port and you don't use a receiver.

It's definitely something only a tiny minority was concerned about, but glad to finally see they did think about that.

But I say, definitely gonna miss the remote control features of the GamePad, now that was useful as hell.

Wait wait wait no normal headphones while in portable mode? That's kinda shitty to me
The 3.5mm jack works like normal while in portable mode.

Some people wondered if it would be disabled while docked. And now we know it isn't disabled.

The PS4 headphone jack in the controller has made it pretty much impossible for me to play games without headphones anymore so this is pretty damn awesome news.

There's no headphone jack on the Switch controllers fyi, just the console itself.

What are you talking about? Why wouldn't a headphone jack not work in portable mode?

My bad, I was reading it like 3.5 jack only in dock mode for some reason. Like maybe only a 3.5 jack was on the dock and bluetooth only for the system itself

I don't understand what is being reported here. Can someone explain it to me like I'm a small child. Seriously, I'm just confused.

Uh...but docked means it's near my TV...not near me. I don't see how the 3.5mm jack helps here.

Well, anyway, good to hear bluetooth is still possible. I got one for PS4, will get one for Switch.

Switch accepts Bluetooth headsets and wired headsets in handheld and docked mode.

Okay but are we talking about headphones or headsets as in a working mic? If it's the former, isn't that like.... expected? I certainly expect to be able to use headphones on the device whether it is portable or docked.

You peasants need to fight and beg and plead for the privilege of knowing what you're getting for $300 in a few weeks.
I mean it is what it is. Ill find out when I get the system anyway but I dont think this is the way we should "officially" find this out.

Dont even get me started on online stuff lol

If the game has a game chat you should be able to use the mic on the headset as well. Why wouldnt we?

We just dont know if games have game chat or only through the app

2 different things:

You can use Bluetooth headsets with the Switch. How it's going to work with the phone app is not yet known.

You can use the mini-jack on the Switch while in docked mode, bypassing your tv audio output. This wasn't known until now.

Then again maybe your post is asking for more specific details than we do not yet know.

Edit: beaten and seems like you wanted a more specific answer.

Wii U gamepad has headphone jack.

This sometimes allows you to just funnel all game audio there.

The PS4 allows this, as well.

Switch controllers, including classic, do not have headphone jacks. This sucks.

But Switch is apparently compatible with bluetooth headphones while docked (and presumably undocked), as well as the system itself still outputting to the headphones even while docked.

This sucks less.

Glad to hear about docked mode headphone support. Was actually kind of worried about that, since I'll be using docked mode at my desk with the system plugged into a monitor.

This is cool.....but these guys need to go ahead and wrap all these announcements in a pre-recorded video format

and call it a DIRECT.

This might be an extremely dumb question, but do you think my PS gold headset will work with Switch? It's blue tooth right?

Okay. I guess I was really confused because I never entertained the thought that it might not have been possible to just plug in a headset and use it as headphones regardless of the status of the Switch. That's something I consider a basic expected functionality in any media device.
