PS4 PRO 4K native games (will update the list everytime there is a new game)

And how did you know it was 1440p? The devs said it was FULL 4K. Did Digital Foundry release an article or a video for that reason?
I got that result through pixel counting. Here's a crop of a 4K screenshot, and a 400% upscale of it. (I used nearest neighbor, so no blur is added.)

In the expanded version, it's very clear that the straight line takes 8 steps. From info on the native version, you can tell it's 12 pixels high. Eight steps over twelve pixels from a 2160p screenshot means the rendering resolution is 1440p.

I am far from infallible, so feel free to check my work. Here are links to the 4K screenshot I used, plus another one as well.

Kingdom Hearts HD: Dream Drop Distance is native 2160p60 plus what appears to be MSAA but Digital Foundry don't dig deep into the details.

I think the softness you see might just be from the video encode, low motion or not. Here's a 4K screenshot from the game that certainly seems to me to show no AA. (All the smooth parts look like textures/shading, not geometry.)

In that case, I will remove the game from the list.
But btw, some time ago you were asking if Helldivers was 2160p geometric or checkerboard and I answered you in your thread that it was 2160p checkerboard (since I contacted the devs before and they confirmed that for me) but you wrote it was 2160g.

Thanks for letting me know. Yeah, I do recall the discussion where there were multiple opinions going back and forth whether it was geometry rendering with unordered samples, or checkerboard rendering with unshaded samples. I definitely would've posted differently if you had mentioned your data came from contacting the developers directly.

I'll change the Helldivers entry accordingly, when I add Sniper Elite 4. Thanks again!

Anyone here know why my Pro keeps freezing up and crashing when I try to play Rise of the tomb raider and Watch Dogs 2 ?

Why would you ask here and not the official topic pro thread?

This is a different topic about the pro.

Do the kingdom hearts games supersample in 1080p?
The II.8 release doesn't. Though the 0.2 segment has a higher (but not supersampled) resolution on Pro with a 1080p: it runs at full 1080p whereas the standard PS4 plays at 900p. I don't know if any details are available for the upcoming I.5/II.5 release.

Did XCOM 2 ever get an update too?
The game has been claimed to already have an update in place, but I haven't been able to find any evidence of improvement in resolution or effects. I've not seen that much material, though, so there could be enhancements I've just missed.

If you have other questions of this type, my general Pro enhancement thread may answer them.

No problem. You are welcome.

I don't know why some Native 4K games like Hatsune Miku - Project DIVA - X HD and Neon Chrome aren't full screen and use a rectangle of black bars. Do they use the same trick of The Order 1886 black bars to offload the buffering in the outpout?

I guess yout tv is on full pixel mode / 1:1 mapping (as it should), but your safe zones are to big. When you go to Sound and Screen -> Display Area Settings, you can adjust the safe zones.

Do you adjust those on PS4 or on TV? If it's on TV do you knwo exactly how to adjust them? Thanks.

However it gets there it looks glorious

No question! I'm a firm believer that checkerboard rendering is the right way to conserve computational resources to spend on other effects than just brute force resolution. That said, the whole point of this thread is to track 4K native titles which it isn't, despite being listed in the OP as such.

There are 3 modes exactly like Rise Of The Tomb Raider: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/61namk/image_mlb_the_show_ps4_pro_options/

- Enhanced Visuals
- High Frame Rate
- 4K

We don't know yet if the 4K mode is checkerboard like in ROTTR or Native 2160p.

False.

It is true 4k. Confirmed by dev Ramone Russell in Twitch stream

Enhanced mode is NOT like ROTTR. Enhanced mode is just 1440p with higher framerate than 4k mode, and only works on 4k displays. high framerate mode renders at an unknown resolution as of right now and is only mode available to both 1080p and 4k displays. It is still unknown what downsampling function is built into the game for 1080 displays.

Ok then. Added to the list.

Hmm, Digital Foundry thought it was utilizing checkerboard rendering.

Digital Foundry's guide to PS4 Pro game upgrades

Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Resolution: 2160p checkerboard
  • Additional features: Super-sampling down to 1080p, enriched visuals or unlocked frame-rate at native 1080p

Link to stream? ROTTR being native 4K would be a big deal considering it far and away looks better than any other title that's currently native 4K on the Pro.

Is it possible to tell the difference between checkerboard and real 4k?

You have to look very closely at the TV screen to notice that: sometimes you will notice artefacts on particles and efefcts like fire and fog caused bey checkerboarding. Also you will notice flickering grains and noise which are coloured pixels in one frame and missing pixels on the next frame, this is because checkerboard draws half of the final resolution in each frame which causes that which makes the 4K screen trying to compensate that by trying to fill the missing pixels. This happens in many games that are 900p-1080p or even 1440p on a 4K TV especially when noise filter is not enabled when game mode is enabled.

What are you talking about? Checkerboard does not leave pixels blank for interpretation by the TV, it delivers a full frame every frame.

Where checkerboard falls short is on irrational movement. If there is a steady trajectory or even still part of the screen, it is somewhat indistinguishable from the real deal. But if there is something random going on, e.g. a flag rippling in the wind, its magic fails a bit. But the trade-off is well worth it compared to upscaling lower res.
