The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Mars Volta isn't too bad, and At-The Drive In is fucking amazing, but yeah the band is corny as fuck. Give me Pink Floyd any day.

At the Drive-In was indeed a very nice band. I never could get into the Mars Volta though, I think it's too high pitched in a way that just weirds me out.

I dislike C&C even more though. Shame because there is so many great prog rock/metal bands these days and C&C seems to be one of the first people often think about. It's like people thinking that black metal is this goofy ass genre thanks to Immortal memes and that somehow Deafheaven is saving it. Nothing against Deafheaven, but that's a bad perception right there. The same happens when people think about contemporary progressive rock and C&C is the band they go to instead of Porcupine Tree.

Great news from the Nile camp!

'Karl Sanders -
"I would like to personally thank Dallas Toler Wade for his many years with the band, and sincerely wish him well with his music .
All of us in Nile are truly happy and thankful to be working with Brian . Not only is he a seriously talented Extreme Metal Guitar Shredder, but he has a great Brutal Metal voice , with a very versatile range . Brian is also a genuine , down-to-earth hard -working and motivated guy who has helped reignite and re-establish a sense of team work back into Nile. With the addition of Brian on guitar and vocals, The band right now seems to me a lot more like the early years of Nile- the Classic Nile era when we were all functioning as a cohesive unit , in viciously brutal Triple Vocal attack mode'.

I came here to post that Nile news but looks like Corpsepyre has it covered.

I'll just repost what I said on facebook: It sucks that my favorite metal band is losing such a core member, but I'm glad Nile are forging onward and I can't wait to hear what Brian can do! Anyone who can jam with George and Karl has gotta be one sick guitarist. I also wish all the best to Dallas, dude has always been a beast on both guitar and vocals!

Suffocation has kept putting out great albums despite some losing core members, I trust Nile can do the same.

Also let us never forget Dallas Toler-Wade's epic skullet!

Lars said they would be back here real soon.

It's been 8 years.

I don't think they're coming back.
Yeah in 2009 they said they'd be back "sooner than 4/5 fuckin years, ya know" and didn't come back until like 6 years later for fucking Lollapalooza

Now they're coming back with garbage support at fucking Soldier Field. Nope

Would like to see Metallica with close seats but giant football field is apparently going to be entirely GA on the floor. Not to mention they've apparently stopped trying with setlists

If you're going to boycott Marduk for something, it should be for them playing a bunch of slow shit on this tour

Seriously for a band everyone criticizes for making a career out of writing the same blast song over and over they only played like 3 or 4 when I caught them Friday. Practically false advertising

Good to know. I am not able to see them tomorrow and was feeling bad but now, not so much lol.

I haven't been this excited for Nile in a REALLY long time. Their last A+ effort was Annihilation of the Wicked, in my opinion. They've been bleeding the well dry ever since. It wouldn't hurt to change themes even at this point. Here's hoping this news injects some new-found inspiration into the band.

I've seen them 3 times now, 2012/13 beforehand and those times (especially 12) were full on blast assault. Granted I'm considering "slow" anything that isn't Panzer Division speed. But all I could think during their set was "boy there sure isn't a lot of blasting going on here"

No Burn My Coffin :'(

This is fucking hilarious. While I dig Panzer Division Marduk, I do prefer the Opus Nocturne era for being a bit dynamic. I did see Marduk a few years ago in San Francisco where the singer hip tossed a guy off stage.

I honestly don't really listen to Marduk's studio stuff but I really enjoy them live

Their earlier/more dynamic stuff lacks the energy of the later stuff so I just don't listen to any of it. Live though, everything's on point.

Also ha, I remember that video. Just like the Watain incident at MDF 2011 (or 12) where Harold from DRI was dancing on stage and he kicked the shit out of him. Or the Cro Mags thing from last year

That sort of thing has its place but idiots overstepping boundaries are causing issues for themselves. Don't know how you see a band like that and assume they want a hug

Damn, only 31? I thought that band has been around for longer than that, so young.

Yeah, they started back in late 1996, Trish joined back in 2005, left in 2007 due to anorexia, recovered and rejoined in 2012 after their bassist of the last five years left to focus on her business and getting married IIRC so yeah pretty much everyone who spent a significant time in the band is still only in their early 30s except for Morgan Lander who's 35. It hasn't officially come out yet but seeing her social media makes it pretty clear it was suicide, she moved to Australia some time back and has seemingly had an overwhelming amount of shit happen along with an immigration lawyer ruining her life as she put it. She's been noticeable depressed for quite some time from what I've seen. =\

Toronto? Shit, I ought to make a weekend out of it haha.

See you at the Maiden show lol.
I'd love to also go see Tallica but I don't have the money as of right now for it and I'm sure down the road the prices will be insane for a good spot.

Yeah, waiting to see how the Metallica tickets are priced. Cheap lawn tickets for Maiden outdoors made that an easy choice, but being at the Rogers Centre just doesn't have the same appeal.

Was going to post this as well, was curious what they were sounding like now, and surprised that it sounds like Revocation, wish the production was a bit cleaner though.

Hey well, if either of you want to meet up before or after the show just to say Hi or something I certainly wouldn't be opposed. Not all the time that you have the opportunity to meet fellow gaffers at an event.

Yo, how's Valentine's Day for everyone?

My girlfriend had a shit day and has really bad Valentines Day feelings (Her uncle committed suicide on this day) so, we didn't do anything special, just tried to cheer her up.

Because of the album being brought up earlier, I tried to listen to Icons of Evil with Vital Remains. And apparently an awesome cover fits an awesome album. It has some really awesome melodies running under the brutality.
