Pokémon Trading Card Game |OT| Gotta Collect them all!

Just got a shiny incineroar card is he rare at all?
If you mean, does the card have any significant value, then no. If it's the GX, you can buy them online for $4. If it's not a GX and just the holo rare then it's worth less than a dollar.

Otherwise, it's a pretty cool looking card with decent attacks and a lot of hp.

My haul, I bought a bunch of random stuff from the Pokemon Center lol.

Premium Trainer box cause it was cheaper than online and has 20 (10 of each) S/M boosters.
10 Sun
10 Moon
10 Steam Siege (Volcanion side here)
2 of the special holo edition S/M boosters
2 20th Anniversary boosters.

Fun opening everything. Got the urge to get more. Also found out my co-workers play too when they get bored on office days haha. So guess I have to learn how to play. Couldn't get a full new box so just winged it off the shelf, the one the flash covered is just a Poliwrath.

Thanks for the info guys, Steam siege elite trainer box will be
Get that Full Art Sycamore

He's not Rare since the only way to obtain Incineroar is via the packs which everyone has access too. If anything, he's been my most common GX pulled.

Damn you have some good cards.
Gumshoos GX - Has decent competitive play
Toxipecs - has a really nice ability
Volcanion - This is used in the very solid Volcanion EX deck
Pyroar - Not much use anymore but did mid last year. Still a decent card
Umbreon GX - Rainbow Rare and is being used in TCG decks
Tauros GX - Also is being used in TCG decks
Sharpedo - I think has some good use that we'll see more of.

Everything else doesn't have too much competitive used but are nice cards that are rare, holos and holo foils. That entire set you have is a really nice pickup.

Bought a collectors album that included an evolutions booster pack and got a reverse water energy and Mewtwo EX, is that good?

Reverse Water is nice and so is the Mewtwo EX. The XY Evolutions Mewtwo EX is nice but Breakthrough Mewtwo EX is probably the best version.

XY Evo doesn't really have much competitive use but the full is awesome.

This is bugging me, because I KNOW they printed a Mewtwo in a past set that had two - if not all three - of those attacks. Can't remember which one it was though! Thought it was Legenda Awakened, but Google isn't showing that to be the case.

It's this one. There was also another print of it included in the home release of the first movie with art by Benimaru Itoh.

So new qurestion now that my son wants to make multiple decks. What is the best value sleeve option? We got a pack of pikachu ones for like $7 that fits perfectly but were just enough for 1 deck. I also grab 100 clear ones for $1 but they are too big and loose. Are there any others like the pikachu ones that arent so expensive? They dont need to be as heavy duty but it would be nice if they fit properly.

Picked up the Latios / Latias trainer kit for $9 on sale, and it was actually a really great way to (re)learn the trading card game. Looking forward to trying out the Pikachu Libre kit sometime too. Does anyone have recommendations on learning the more complex parts of the game? Or is now a good time to simply jump in and start creating decks? I have quite a few cards already from XY series packs.

The XY Evolutions cards are just updates of the 90's set. They have increased HP, abilities and new moves to compensate for the new format.

Outside of the Pilachu Libre card, there's not really much in the Pikachu Libre and Suicune trainer kit, but those are some nice pulls.

These are perfect for you if you want cheap Pikachu ones.

Ultra pro are top tier when it comes to card games and related items.
The best card sleeves you wanna go for are these:
Ultra Pro card sleeves.
82965.jpg

They are very solid and can take the amount of beating that comes with these games. The see through ones can't be used in tournaments and don't have the thicker back so your cards can easily get damaged when shuffling.

If you just wanna have everything from the start ready to play, then a Trainer Box is perfect. It comes with damage counters, 60 theme sleeves, the new GX token and 10 dice to act as damage counters, plus dividers for storage, a card manual for your collection and 8 packs.

This will give your son everything he needs to get playing plus the sleeves, card carrying storage, dice and an extra 8 packs especially if he doesn't any yet. The good news as well is that these Elite Trainer Boxes are only around £40 (should be very cheap in dollars too. Around $45)

Sure. Now is a good time to play since Sun and Moon looks to change the format by quite a bit.

Do you already have a deck and what cards are you playing? There a certain cards (staples) that should be in your/every deck. What is your deck at the moment and I'all give you a list?

Are the elite trainer boxes actually a good value card wise? If they cost $40 and come with 8 packs is the rest of the stuff worth $15? Or are you better off just buying loose packs?

No. I don't think so. The sleeves are bad quality and you can find cheap dice at a dollar store.

As far as card sleeves go, I'd actually recommend Dragon Shield Matte sleeves over anything Ultra Pro. They're more expensive, but also far more durable. If you play a lot, I think it's worth spending a couple of dollars extra for higher-quality sleeves; cheaper sleeves will split apart more often, so you'll soon have to replace them. I've never had a Dragon Shield sleeve split, whereas I've seen it a lot with other brands.

Also, if you're worried about durability, get sleeves with plain-coloured backs. Sleeves with art printed on them wear out faster (the friction of shuffling slowly wears away the printed layer.)

I was told here to not pay more them $3 a pack. My walmart sells th for like $4.10 but I know that is a rip

$4 seems to be the MSRP for big box stores.

Hobby shops usually range from $3-$4 per pack. I've seen one shop do a buy 3 packs for $10. My local shop sells SM packs at $3.25.

Booster boxes (36 packs) will bring the price per pack under $3.

I also recommend Dragon Shields above Ultra-Pro. For a few dollars more you get 35 extra sleeves and a more durable sleeve that will shuffle easier. The Ultra-Pro and Pokémon ETB sleeves also have an annoying tendency to have their backs peel around the edges.

I also recommend Dragon Shields.

I've seen the Dragon Shields before just not opted into them. I've used my Greninja Break deck a lot and none of the sleeves are too worn down. I'll have grab a set of these Dragon Shields or Hyper Mat. I've found the Pokemon ETB ones to be quite low in quality too. They look nice but seem to break apart easily and in some cases, causes problems at tournaments.

They aren't worth it in terms of card value wise, but for what your were asking initially, grabbing at least one for your son would be worth it as you can get the Generations box with comes with the Pikachu sleeves and will give your son all the tokens and an included 8 packs for a good value. If you don't need sleeves, dice, tokens etc then yeah, these aren't worth it. Grabbing one is a must for starters, any box after is just for collection sake.

The Generations one actually includes 10 packs.

For reasons I stated above. That is the number 1 card to pull. Congratulations.

Oh yeah. I stand corrected on that.

Little disappointing I only got 6 full holos. Was expecting 7 or 8. But here is what my booster box gave.
Nice pulls!

Nice one. I have sold to trollandtoad.com fairly regularly in the past, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Here's the link to their "buying center", this will give you all the prices and cards they are currently buying. Click on the Pokémon singles link on the menu and you can compile a shopping cart of cards you want to sell. There's also a link on there with a detailed explanation of their policies.

I can tell you they are offering $54 for that Ultra Ball. If your goal is to get full value you might be better off going the eBay or direct selling to someone.

Can anyone tell me what the rarity of the Rotomdex trainer card/full art cards would be? I'm a huge Rotom nerd and I wanna know what my chances are ahead of buying a bunch of packs. I had to resort to buying the last Rotom card on ebay ;-;

I got Incineroar and Trumpshoos GX though in the triple pack Togdemaru promo thing though so that was nice.

The full art? Just buy it. You can easily spend hundreds and not pull the full art rotom dex. You can open an entire booster box and not get a secret rare. Trying to buy boosters just to get that card is a god awful idea when you can just buy it for $9

http://shop.tcgplayer.com/pokemon/sm-base-set/rotom-dex-secret

And the regular version is a quarter.

Done and done. haha I usually don't buy anything online since I just have fun opening the packs but this is a relief.

Does anyone happen to know if there's any difference with the Japanese one? I like getting foreign cards sometimes for my collection but I don't really know where to even look besides ebay.

They aren't tournament legal. You can only use cards that use the same language from your region.

This bloody game sometimes. OK it was the winning turn but still. I drew a third Sycamore.

I was hesitant at first due to enjoying opening a pack like when I was a kid and not knowing what you'd get, I think at this point I'm going just buy the ultra ball instead of another booster box. I don't think there's many gxs left at this point for me. All I need from the regular gxs is the tiger and Tauros.

KMC is the best. Better than ultra pro and dragonshield. Mash shuffles are super smooth

Eh, their quality has declined quite a bit in the past year. Two recent packs from two different stores have split on me in the middle of a major tournament. Now that was fun to deal with...

The Perfect Fits still work fine, I use them with Dragon Shield Mattes.

Bought myself a box of Sun, Moon, and Steam Siege on amazon when ordering my new shoes lol. Because why not -shrug- #makeitrain Hope to get it before Friday and see whats inside.

Wow wow wow. Tapu Lele-GX is insane, guaranteed staple going forward. It's like Jirachi-Ex, but with way more HP, no weakness, and an X-Ball attack. If this translation is accurate expect to see at least 1 of these in every deck going forward. It's attack isn't affected by weakness, but I guess they didn't want to make it too OP
it's still op
. Will also make Lillie playable.

Tapu Lele-GX – Psychic – HP170
Basic Pokemon
Ability: Wonder Touch
Once during your turn (before your attack), when you play this card from your hand onto your Bench, you may search your deck for a Supporter card, reveal it, and put it in your hand. Then shuffle your deck.
[C][C] Energy Drive: Does 20 damage times the number of Energy attached to both Active Pokemon. This attack's damage isn't affected by Weakness or Resistance.
[P] Kapu Cure GX: Restore all HP to 2 of your Benched Pokemon. (You can't use more than 1 GX attack per game.)
Weakness: none
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

IW5dazp.jpg

Anyways, is 20 dollars for 36 codes a good price point for sun and moon?
No, it's not. Look on ebay, plenty of better deals.

Wow. Is this card going to get crazy expensive?

Of course, aero ball against a 200+hp GX is going to take a couple of turns and potentially waste dce's if you are stacking them up.

Jirachi ex is still $20 despite it being used only in Expanded, so yeah, I can see it being one of the more expensive cards, especially once Shaymin rotates with no replacement. I'm definitely going to be buying a couple as soon as the set releases.

Here are my first notable pulls from Sun & Moon! I'm afraid I'm going to fall into this rabbit hole very quickly. Keen to try the booster trick people have talked about but not sure many stores have fresh booster boxes.

Every third pack might be good ;)

Heh maybe! I'm in Japan though so I assume they would have caught that before now. Seems like a NA/EU thing.

Theres always the next set in a month lol. Maybe that one will be jacked haha. Also is Lillie's Rainbow Trainer card as expensive in you guys' part of the world as it is here. Seems like every youtuber in Japan tried to/is still trying to find one. It was worth something like $150 on release, now its hovering around $100 on the auction sites here.

Very few found it btw lol. Best was a guy who bought 12 boxes of Moon to get it and NOPE. Then again the boxes are a bit cheaper here in general, and it was just for clicks...

So after seeing that thread in Gaming and now the impressions here what i'm getting is: buy the cards themselves and not boxes or booster packs. Sound about right?

So after seeing that thread in Gaming and now the impressions here what i'm getting is: buy the cards themselves and not boxes or booster packs. Sound about right?

Think it depends what you want to do. If you want to simply play the game at a competitive level, I would just buy what you need to make a deck. If you want to collect them all, it might be more worth it to buy a box or two and fill in later... depending on prices.

I'm in for collecting, fun of opening, and casual play. So I will buy boxes and sell what I don't need/get extras of.

Thankfully in Japan there are more players than collectors for card games so its easy to get rid of things you don't want.
