Media Create Sales: Week 6, 2017 (Feb 06 - Feb 12)

Chris1964

Sales-Age Genius
Media Create holds RE7 a little higher after the lower first week it gave it but Famitsu has it already at 15k. With the rate sales drop it will finish with a 350k LTD at best. Bigger collapse than FFXV in the end.

I suppose, although Minecraft is on basically everything that can run it at this point. Just seems a bit odd since it's a system with a clear expiration date, and it's not even relatively cheap. But I guess that's why it's a pretty small number thinking that way- although still larger than Xbone.

Wii U is the only place to play Splatoon at least for a while longer ;)

In terms of Nioh it wasn't under-shipped - preorders in Japan were extremely sluggish and it's performing twice as well as predicted at launch.
Completely underestimated DQM and Nioh this month - glad to see both games beat expectations even if those expectations weren't lofty.

Japan's top mobile games for January: https://www.appannie.com/indexes/all-stores/rank/overall/?month=2017-01-01&country=JP&error_code=2

PowaPro is #11 as it shows up when you filter to games only.

In the worldwide chart, the Japanese games are:

1. Monster Strike (Mixi)
3. Fate/Grand Order (Sony)
10. Puzzle & Dragons (Gung-Ho)

The biggest change-ups this month are that Sony is #2 on the strength of Fate alone, and that Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light seems to be seeing a major resurgence.

I guess same tracker on both, just different goals

this one – till 5M

this one – 4.5M
Thank you. So this means PS4 may win the race to 4.5M but lose the race to 5M to PS3?

I think PS4 has high probability of hitting 4.5M in next 5 weeks. Which means PS3 will be below 4.0M at the same time in its life. But then PS3 taking less time to sell 1.0M then PS4 to sell 0.5M is quite fascinating.

Biggest fw ever for Compile Heart, needs to sell some 16k more (which is insanely difficult for a Neptunia game) to also become their best selling game.

Good to see that it launched well.

Famitsu is reporting stock problems for Nioh and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 Pro.

Also great to see Nioh & DQMJ3 be sold out/close to sold out. I hope they have legs. So in the end RE7 might sell less than Yakuza 6 (which already did poorly)? That's quite a drop....

Other than Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V, no port has sold well on PS4. That hasn't stopped the game industry.

I am serious. I just don't see a DQMJ3 expansion ever really doing very well on 3DS and I struggle to believe SE felt otherwise. Yes, it would cost money to make the game look decent, but then they could sell it on Vita, Switch and in the west.

They put it on 3DS because the original was on 3DS and they're ending the series with this game. Why would they put it on another platform if they're definitely ending the series?

I'm glad Nep is selling better than the last few games, hopefully they manage to get the localized version out this year. Was gonna import but too much else to play at the moment.

Didn't realise they were this niche in Japan. They must considerably more in the west even with the lower prices then. Maybe even just on PC, although those stats include Japan.

It win both or do you expect PS4 to fall below 25k per week in Feb/Mar??? It will possible have weeks over 50k.

The "fascinating" weeks are November + December for PS3 with FFXIII launch vs. January + February sales of PS4.

PS4 will probably peak this year that will open a good margin over PS3 without big holiday release.

I think 2016 will be the peak year.

and that can continue to be a case until fall but then it will fall behind after Slim launch. Same fate as PS3 had in 2010 against 2009 peak year.
Pretty sure PS4 will have a price cut this year before holidays... that is why I don't believe it fall below 2016.

08./04. [3DS] Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2017.01.19} (¥4.700) - 8.394 / 93.257 <80-100%> (-30%)

Nintendo says they shipped 150k of the Wii U original but the lastest sellthrough data we had puts it just above 100k, so this is another Wii U to 3DS port that will do better than the original, on par at worse.

Hyrule Warriors was the only to dissapoint but it only ended 20k below the original one, not to bad seeing how terrible the port was. I wonder if they're making more ports, could help to fill the 3DS and keep and active base until Dragon Quest XI, at least something like Kirby or Captain Toad could work well on the 3DS.

Price cut will not drive as much hw sales as price cut with new model. Not to mention PS4 also had launches of Pro model, VR and FFXV last year and each sold decent amount of hw.

Let's talk again October before holidays starts...

Well never say never but at the moment it looks like repetition of PS3.

PS3 in 2009 as of week 35 (week before slim): 652k
PS3 in 2010 as of week 35: 997k

PS3 in 2010 had almost 350k advantage compared to 2009 and yet fell behind during last 17 weeks of the year.

If Resident Evil 7 couldn't push PS4 above 50k I don't see how anything else would.

Given RE7 sales we should treat it as Tales or Yakuza launching not as FF or MGS launching on the system.

Sure, whatever.

It's still the biggest release the system is getting in months, if that can't put it above 50k nothing else should be able to do it.

do you guys are of the opinion that japan is still giving the PS4 the cold shoulder?

PS4 is doing well and has managed to stay healthier than Wii U and Vita through all of 2016, but I feel like no matter what Sony's throws at japanese gamers, they refuse to buy the console like they did with PS2 and Wii,

yes, this isn't 2001 and 2006, I know that

but still, I think it should be performing better, a lot better than it does.

For what the market is, the hardware is actually selling better than i anticipated, its software thats the problem. Most games are down from previous entries.

They're not giving it the cold shoulder anymore. Got decent/good hardware numbers for the market it's in since some weeks (months?) now.
It's not the PS2/Wii, I don't see why anyone would expect that. It's not the PS3 either (and probably never will, mainly due to SW), yet it managed to do better than a lot here (me included) expected.

That has more to do with those franchises than with PS4. Launches aligned PS4 is ahead of PS3 in sw sales. PS4 users just buy more varied software.

Software is doing fantastic on the PS4. Don't judge the entire PS4 software library sales based on several badly managed franchises.

Most prominent example is the rise of western shooters in Japan this generation.

There will be another price cut for the PS4, listen to my words.

Oh I don't doubt that as PS4 is far better engineered for price reductions than PS3. Maybe PS4 actually hits something like $150/15k yen price late in its life (if decent sized flash memory becomes cheap enough as otherwise HDD is going to be the main obstacle when we go low enough with price)

But software total and ratio are way bigger than previous gen... PS4 is selling way more software than PS3.

PS4 strong point is sofware sales.

Week of White PS4, NieR and Super Robot Wars V could be one of PS4's big weeks for first half of the year. Dark Souls III update + Golden week is the only other week a good bump could be seen. There aren't big releases.
