Thought it would obvious it was? It is associated with Playstation.

So? Goldeneye was associated with Nintendo but its remake was a timed exclusive on the Wii.

Fine with me if true, but I don't always think the people running the blogs know everything. Could also be timed exclusive as well. Would be nice to have clarity.

This pretty much, I still think that it's a time exclusive.

Yeah, CTR (presumably) wasn't part of the co-publishing deal with Universal, so it's the one and only Crash game that Acti doesn't own.

ctrrearcover9ysdr.jpg

Interesting, though there isn't much Sony can do with that as they don't own the IP.

Iirc, while Sony doesn't own Crash as in the IP, they own the actual PSone games and their code.

But I could be wrong about that too. Anyone else know more?

Sony has publishing right and source code to the PS1 Crash games, Activision owns everything else.

Sooo the Remaster kinda falls outside that area and Activision should be free to release it on other systems later down the line.

I didn't even know there was a PlayStation Ireland - and I live in England.

Are you confusing Republic of Ireland for Northern Ireland? If so boooy did your geography teacher let you down.

This image isn't valid evidence as it was answered by someone on the developer social media team and not the developer themselves.

Less people are going to buy and play the game, Nice!

Sony and Nintendo rely on getting gamers into their dedicated ecosystems. Exclusives are good for them, and they're good for hardcore gamers who want to justify a console purchase, like for example if you play on PC other than exclusives, you need those exclusives to justify a dedicated platform.

I don't subscribe to the notion that every game should be on every system, it's one of the reasons I'd never buy an Xbox anymore now that Microsoft has done away with exclusives.

Would Activision prefer multiplat? Sure, but Sony might hold residual rights, and they made the right decision regarding exclusivity here. As a Sony (and Nintendo) gamer, I'm pleased.

Obnoxious portbeggars do not mean Sony and Nintendo should compromise their potential profit. Exclusives have always been huge draws for both of them. Horizon is just coming out next week, for example.

How many times do we have to go through this?
So many games go through this, and then we end up seeing "it was only timed" a few months later. Parties never go out of their way to specifically state what they are. Even Nier Automata which is coming to PC now, was at first said the be an exclusive even by SE.

The best bet is to always take it with a grain of salt. But at the same time to not fully expect it.

The weid thing is that this sounds like a good thing yet you paint it like a bad thing

What a shame for all those Crash fans on PC and Xbox and Nintendo?

I mean, i totally understand that you're just shitposting, but there have been in fact just as many Nitnendo exclusive CB games as there have been Sony exclusive ones.

It'll be announced it's coming to the Switch during the E3 direct, Crash coming to Smash 4 Switch as well. Believe it.

For 'Timed' exclusives, developers will often talk in code and say "Right now we are concentrating on the _______ version." Case in point, when Grinding Gear Games was asked recently about a PS4 version of Path of Exile, they replied: "At this time we're only announcing the Xbox One version."

No. Exclusives are a good thing, I have no problem with them. They justify dedicated hardware purchases, and I love Sony and Nintendo both for their commitment to them. I have no problems with exclusivity.

Without dedicated exclusives, there'd be a lot less incentive to get their systems and join that ecosystem, especially Nintendo's. They're not stupid. It's not anti-consumer in any way, as they fund the exclusives specifically so you'll buy their box, not so someone else (say Valve or the Google Play Store) gets a ~30% cut even for digital sales.

I still don't see how this would be a bad thing. For me as a consumer, there's absolutely no reason to want more than one platform. I don't need an incentive to buy more than one, as i would be perfectly fine with just owning one if that one could play all the game si wanted.

Interesting, though there isn't much Sony can do with that as they don't own the IP.

Yeah, it'd have to licence the IP in order to greenlight a remake, which will probably happen -- and hopefully happens -- if the trilogy sells well.

I didn't even know there was a PlayStation Ireland - and I live in England.

But why would you?

Also, Ireland has long been PlayStation country. The highest number of PlayStation owners per population after Japan has traditionally been Ireland... Not sure if that's still true today but I wouldn't be surprised. And that's my useless fact of the day out of the way...

It's not coming to any other system. That includes PC. You can pretend that there's a "right now" and wait for eternity, and either be lucky on the guess and it eventually comes or continue to wait until the heat death of the universe takes us all, but the only system it's for is PS4. No sense in pretending anything else will happen. You'll live a longer life.

I was hoping to get a Switch version, but PS4 version it is. Y'all better buy this game!

I'd support this even if it was on the N-Gage.

We've gotten two confirmations that it's exclusive. If anything, I'd expect it to be a PS4 timed exclusive, and come to PC later, but not Xbox One or Switch.

Nah, I can see the Xbone and Switch getting a port later down the line.

More than a couple. ^^

(I'm counting the spin-offs though since those have plenty in common with the mainline games IMO)

It's interesting to note that the articles states that Activision is publishing the game and not Sony, so I don't really see anything stopping it being a time exclusive.

Seems fitting considering the franchise was born on PlayStation. Hopefully those wishing for it on other platforms will get their wish down the road.

I still don't see how this would be a bad thing.

Less incentive to join Sony or Nintendo's ecosystem without them. It'd be incredibly shortsighted and I'm glad Shu and co. don't listen to the small minority of vocal port beggars. Nintendo and Sony know very well how to get gamers to want their platform, and have been doing so to great success for literally decades at this point.

I have no reason, as a Nintendo or Sony fan, to wish that Valve or somebody else could get a ~30% cut. I buy physical, so retailers get a cut, but why would I actively want Sony and Nintendo to compromise their ecosystem? Why should I want them to pay a competitor for the privilege of undermining their ecosystem? I say lolno to that. It's called dedicated hardware for a reason, it's so they can collect licence fees and not have to pay one for simply putting the game on the platform themselves.

It makes good business sense. I don't see any reason to compromise that for a tiny minority of obnoxious people who want the system's exclusive features and products, can generally afford a more expensive system (as they own a decent PC), and yet think they're entitled to that system's exclusive features and products. Too bad.

There's nothing more to say so I'll leave it at that.

Acti and only Acti is listed as the copyright claimant at the end of the announcement trailer, plus it's successful enough that it'd have no reason to accept a co-funding deal and in doing so relinquish at least some ownership of the product, so I'd think not. Remedy sunk all of its Max Payne money into the development of Alan Wake before partnering with Microsoft to finish the game and as a result it (the game, not the IP) is jointly owned by both of them, for instance.

I ask because that's the only reason I could see Activision not publishing the game on other platforms either through a timed exclusivity window or in perpetuity.

Either Sony gave Activision money to fund the development of the game with Vicarious Visions or Sony outright gave Activision money for exclusivity, timed or permanent. Otherwise, why would Activision choose to only publish the game on one platform?

The difference in this case though is Horizon is from a first party Sony owned studio. There is no expectation for a first party game to ever appear on anything but a Sony platform.

In the case for Crash however, Activision owns the rights to the IP they are effectively under no obligation to restrict its release to a single platform. So your comparison with a first party release is not apples to apples in this regard.

It will eventually be announced for other platforms, but it's going to do the bulk of its business on the PS4, which makes total sense.

Wouldn't Acti own CTR as well? The characters (one by which I mean Oxide) created for that specific game appear in future titles.

It says copyrighted by Universal.

Literally I am not.

Crash Bandicoot has starred in garbage games for a decade. The only people excited about new Crash are 30 year olds that loved him as the PSX mascot that yelled at Mario with a loudspeaker.

To be honest I think Microsoft is the most based 1st party company right now precisely because they're giving their customers options as to how they want to play their games, rather than forcing an Xbox One on everyone (and also allowing their audience to go back and forth as they desire to play their games however)
Phil Spencer wanting to do away with walls was the best thing Microsoft has ever done. I just wish they'd actually put out interesting games. Bring back Blinx or something.

So in other words, you don't actually care about your own perspective as a consumer and just want a million dollar company you subscribed yourself as a consumer to, to make money? Alright.

We don't know if Sony owns some residual rights.

If this is indeed truly exclusive, then yes, they almost certainly have a say. Doesn't matter that Activision owns the Crash IP generally if there is an obligation we don't know about.

It's all conjecture.

So in other words, you don't actually care about your own perspective as a consumer and just want a million dollar company you subscribed yourself as a consumer to, to make money? Alright.

My perspective as a consumer is simple: Fuck portbegging.

Oh I know, but I think the fact that this is the first time they have referred to it as an exclusive and that acti have been shy about confirming it either way makes me think it won't be exclusive forever.

I could easily see it being a year, though.

If it's timed, I can't imagine it being anything less than a year. I wish Sony proper (or Activision) would just give us a clear definitive answer. But of course that would be bad for Sony's bottom line if it is timed.

What a shame for all those Crash fans on PC and Xbox and Nintendo?

Well, every major Crash game after 3 did come out on Nintendo and Xbox systems, so I imagine that there are quite a few of them out there.

O: Oop. I always just assumed that it was a PS4 exclusive.

Did Sony not work out a deal with Activisin ffor the Crash remake due to the incessant number of playstation fans who were clamouring year in and year out for Sony to bring the franchise back from the dead?

I'm now interested in reading how people fell in love with Crash Bandicoot, the bejorted marsupial, without doing so as teenagers playing PSX. I literally just discovered a bunch of Crash games that came out on the Xbox and Wii. They all look pretty bad. Are there Crash fans who missed out on his not actually that impressive glory days on PSX? Who found him via Mind over Mutant and thought, this character, this character I'm interested in seeing again? Tell me your stories.
