NS Pro Controller tidbit: 40h on a single charge, autoparing when connected with USB

A bit sad still they aren't doing a symmetrical layout anymore, but with how the Switch is layed out (and it needs to be due to the joycons) I understand the direction. I'll have to see how good it feels, but I'll probably get this controller. Also I'm curious to feel the HD rumble on this controller, which I assume is built into the handles? If you use the joy-con grip, the handles are all plastic so the rumble probably doesn't feel as strong.

Oh well, with the gyro this controller probably will be a must-have when Splatoon 2 comes around.

The Steam controller is 80 hours (on 2x AA batteries) for comparison. It also features a Gyroscope, accelerometer sensors, and HD haptics.

Wow, that's a lot. Does this mean rumble is gonna be shit like the Wii U pro controller? That lasted forever but rumble is weak.

No. WiiU Pro pad got 80 hours per charge. Switch Pro is getting 40. Probably because we'll be getting much better rumble (and gyro).

Do we know if the steam controller uses the batteries in parallel or serial configuration?

I would assume its at least on par with the 9-axis one on the Wii U gamepad
It's not, at all. The wii u gamepad has the best gyro in a controller on the market currently, this includes the steam controller. The NS pro is going to be already on par with it, due to battery and probably recycling of similar components. Add hd rumble, nfc, and the best dpad in the industry and you've got an amazing controller. I will be using this on steam as soon as possible, for honor sorely needs gyro camera control.

How's is Nintendo knocking it out of the park with battery life and Sony are idiots about it

I have to charge DS4 literally every time I play.

Even at half the beastly 80 hours of wiiu. 40 hours is a god damn miracle in comparison to Sony.

40 hours almost seems excessive in this day and age lol. Holy mackerel.

Anyone who knows about Batteries here? Does this in any way explain the higher price of these controllers? Maybe they have two batteries?

All we know is that capacity is 1300 mAh, same as the Wii U pro controller. By comparison, the DS4 uses a 1000 mAh battery.

Nope, it has the 3DS battery in there. The slightly higher price will be because of the Gyro, NFC and HD rumble.

This controller would be perfect if it had an 3.5mm jack. I use the one on the DS4 literally all the time for late night gaming sessions. Playing through my Wii U backlog recently and having to play with lower volume on my tv is... not fun.

Ahh I see, thanks.

So not just a capacity issue, unless there is a exponential sliding type scale.

The DS4 must just be such a juice suck, it's nuts. That said, the newer DS4s are lightyears better than the originals, which were an actual, true blue crime. I got... maybe 3 hours a controller? The new ones seem to get a good 6-8 hours in my use, sometimes longer.

I hated the Wii U pro controller. Even more than I dislike the DS4. The only thing good about it was its battery life. Based on everything I've seen on the NS Pro controller, I'd gladly pay 70 dollars for this controller if it is comfortable, the build quality is solid, and its battery life is good. Hopefully Steam will eventually patch support for it, as well, but I doubt it.

PS4 obviously has a shitty battery, there's no other reason. "For the gamers!"

Nintendo gives people multiple times better battery, more features and arguably a better feeling controller and still people say it is too expensive and then they buy almost as expensive controllers for other platforms...

I hate PS4 pad with all my heart. That thing is atrocious. Joysticks are flimsy and feel so bad under your thumb, it's shape sucks as...

XBox controllers are heaps and bound better, that's one thing that XBox has over PS.

I like Nintendo controllers too, even the gamepad.

Opinions vary, and I think that most of the people are just used to PS controllers, they've been pretty much the same always shape wise. Nothing wrong with that but saying that they are factually the best controllers is insane.

That's amazing! I would love to buy 4 of these when I get a Switch. Hopefully Nintendo will release the Pro controller in different colors too.

That's good to hear. Controllers should always have a decent battery life to start. It's a shame the DS4's battery life is comparable to the fucking Switch tablet is itself.

Speaking of bluetooth headphones, could anyone recommend me a pair (available on newegg or Amazon preferably)?

Look at the LG Tones. They've been my Bluetooth headphones of choice since 2015 and I love them.

I use mine with my phone, Sony Walkman and Vita and they work great.

I see it as a form of Stockholm syndrome.

I loved sticks on top and was hoping Nintendo would keep that setup, but I have to admit that the buttons just don't seem to work in that configuration. Y and B aren't as comfortable to hit on the U Pro as they should be, and the Steam controller has a similar same problem. Something about pressing a button with your thumb extended in the lowest-left position is just uncomfortable, but I can't say that I've ever had a problem pushing an analog stick in that same position. At least with the staggered layout it's assured that everything will be comfortable to press.

Plus, if any company should be prioritizing the buttons instead of the right stick it's Nintendo. The Wii U layout is great on PC where there are lots of camera heavy games, but most Nintendo games don't require much right stick use. It does suck that 2D games won't have a symmetrical D-pad and buttons anymore, though...

I thought a lot of people hated the symmetrical layout anyway? I liked it, but I've heard quite a few people say they were instantly turned off by it?

If the Switch Pro Controller had a 3.5mm jack with mic support, analog triggers, and USB data support (unless the autopairing over USB confirms it), it would have been just about perfect.

Still a solid controller nonetheless and a big step up from the Wii U Pro Controller.

It was good for dual stick gaming but bad for button focused games. I could see it being good for shooters, and action games in which your attacks are mainly the triggers and bumpers (genres not common on the Wii U). However, It made the angle of the face buttons relative to the grip terrible for traditional 2d platformers like mario and dk, and for most games that require heavy use of both face and sticks (such as 3d action games), the configuration while not necessarily bad, confused people who were already used to the second stick being below the face buttons.

It will be missed for Splatoon, since it was really natural to rest your thumbs on both sticks symmetrically. In DKCTF, I had to switch the roll button from B to R because of the angle of and offset of the facebuttons. So fuck the wii U's controller. I will not miss it, overall. It's also terrible for clawing. Good luck BotW Wii U-ers.
