Another disappointing month on the eShop for Nintendo with Sun Moon 7,774 from 26 Dec - 29 Jan and Momotaro Dentestu 4,486.

PS4 has Biohazard 7 with 26,088, Gravity Daze 2 with 18,821 and Kingdom Hearts with 16,562.

I'm sure someone will compile the full list shortly but I have more pressing engagements for now.

If you can share a link/picture that would help :)

It seems I'm alone in my belief that it should've done better. Idk, when things like the Atelier games were getting expanded ports on Vita a year after their PS3 release, I'd have seen sales like 6k FW as a disaster. Even the sales they were getting (12k Ayesha / 16k Escha) were shaky.

Putting a home console game on handheld is more attractive and likely to attract new audience or double dippers than the opposite in Japan.
Sony tried hard to make it happen but it just doesn't work.

God Eater Online has quite possibly the worst rating I have ever seen for a mobile game.

It's also started completely tanking in the revenue charts.

Is it just fundamentally broken currently (i.e. continuous disconnects), or just completely horrendous?

Edit:

Okay, using Google Translate on some user reviews, it seems it's just fundamentally broken.

Saw something from a JP blog about maintenance that started on the 21st, and isn't over yet (not sure if it is right now). So yeah, looks like a technical mess at the moment.

That's very nice for Gravity Daze

I can't post scans here. Expect a kind user to translate the full charts soon.

No but it will be reduced in price. That best version is just a reduced rerelease. The new one did pretty close to the first at least in Japan.

And that was pretty much Takao's point lol. The game's probably gonna sell about on par with the previous entry, probably a bit better with a budget re-release.

I mean, at least you can say "props to them for keeping hold of their audience" but I'm not sure that warrants nearly 5 years of HD development at these kinds of numbers.

Gravity Rush is in this weird place where it's not an AAA blockbuster franchise for them nor a cheaply made indie darling. As such I'm not sure it has much of a future in Sony's current direction.

Who developed it btw? It seems fairly high effort.

Why PS4 numbers below last year? I thought this year releases are more popular and bigger hardware movers. Or something big released on PS4 last year this week

The Wii U is sure as dead, but I'm really surprised the 3DS is still on par with the PS4 just weeks before the Switch is out.

I wonder what Nioh's digital sales are like thus far.

Same, situation is a bit different from the usual with the promotion and their social accounts pushing for the digital version due to the stock issues.

The Wii U is sure as dead, but I'm really surprised the 3DS is still on par with the PS4 just weeks before the Switch is out.

Surprised by the 3DS being at this point or the PS4 being low?

With that price, software lineup and general marketing for switch it is pretty normal to see the vastly cheaper, more popular, more portable and vastly more supported by portable games 3ds not being affected by the switch compared to the discontinued wiiu

Wii U is dead, PS3 is dead, Vita is at its last steps, Switch isn't out yet.

PS4 isn't gonna take off and the only alternative right now is 3DS.

Resident Evil 7 legs are as firm as the monsters in the game, not being able to even match the sales of spin offs is awful.

For Honor debuting lower digitally than Nioh kind of gives merit to the act that digital sales might be higher than anticipated in Japan. Isn't the digital version discounted as well?

Digital Nioh is lke $3 cheaper, so yeah big discounts.

LTD after 4 weeks

[PS1] Resident Evil - 307.332

[PS1] Resident Evil 2 - 1.842.496

[PS1] Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - 1.250.162

[PS2] Resident Evil Code: Veronica X - 260.010

[PS2] Resident Evil 4 - 370.590

[PS3] Resident Evil 5 - 428.545

[PS3] Resident Evi 6 - 790.373

[PS4] Resident Evil 7: biohazard - 295.449

Only comparing it to other games on PlayStation platforms, 7 is only doing better than the late port of Code: Veronica though its performing worse than the original and it won't outsell either version of the game.

It's also marginally doing better than the Resident Evil 0, worse considering there were less than 2 million NGCs sold in Japan when that game came out.

Worst of all its that its performing worse than Operation Raccoon City (which might just barely outsell) and much worse than the first Outbreak game (slim chances of it getting close to it) right now its unlikely it'll even outsell Umbrella Chronicles.

God Eater Online has quite possibly the worst rating I have ever seen for a mobile game.

It's also started completely tanking in the revenue charts.

Is it just fundamentally broken currently (i.e. continuous disconnects), or just completely horrendous?

It launched broken with a ton of technical issues. Then it went down to maintenance for hours, before going back up. Within that hour it went down for more maintenance again because it was still broken. It's pretty impressive. Since launch day, their twitter feed has been a stream of apologies instead of promo hype.

Maybe Namco should follow Square's lead and announce betas for all future mobile games hahaha.

To be honest, it's incredibly weird that they didn't have one. If I recall, all God Eater games on PSP/Vita had pre-release demos with tons of content, and save data you could carry into the full game, and they used the demos for feedback too.

people are being entirely too modest with their switch hardware prediction numbers.

What share of the 2,000,000 Switch units they will ship FY 2016 (till the end of March 2017) do we think Japan will get. I am looking at the predictions and they seem reasonable but I wonder if that many units will even be available.

Nintendo might rise that 2m forecast in the end, but if it remains the same something between 1/4 and 1/3 of that is a good estimate. At least for March sales will depend on supply if they stick with 2m.

Edit:

Okay, using Google Translate on some user reviews, it seems it's just fundamentally broken.

Wuuu Bamco finally got their Chaos Dragon or BoF V on their hand.^^

"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report

Hello all. What an exciting time to be a gamer. New hardware set to revive the struggling Japanese console market or put another nail into the coffin of dedicated gaming. No new hardware out yet, but A few impressions.

Jusco
Wii U Hardware: 0
Switch Section?: Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Yes

See photo:

Q33G7LQ.jpg

Youme Town
Wii U Hardware: No systems and removed they place they would be.
Switch Section? Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Not sure if they were even taking pre-orders.

Mr. Max
Went out of business since the last Vinnk's Village Report

Book-Net
Went out of business since the last Vinnk's Village Report

Goody
Became primarily a second-hand shop.

Wii U Hardware: 1 system. White 8gb.
Switch Section? Yes? There is a corner with posters. Again since they are promarily second-hand I am not sure if they will get systems.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? They don't take them.

Best Denki
Wii U Hardware: No systems and removed they place they would be. Small WiiU Game section still remains.
Switch Section? Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Yes.

Wanpaku

Wanpaku want out of business and was replaced by a store called Game@Net
Wii U Hardware: Yes, 3 used. 0 New
Switch Section? Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Yes, since the first day they were available.

Famicom Dojo
No longer sells new hardware. Otherwise I would have bought mine there. But they will sell used Switch games and systems in the future. Owners are very happy that Nintendo decided to use carts. They are much more resilient in the used market.

Yamada Denki
I was not on this side of town this week. They were sold out of the Switch for some time. But I cannot 100% confirm that they are sold out of pre-orders now.

Since last report was got a Book-Off in Town, so I'll add that:

Book Off

Wii U Hardware: Yes, 4 used units. And they are still selling for almost retail price.
Switch Section? No. [but since they are mostly a used item shop it's not too surprising]
Switch Pre-orders sold out? No pre-orders.

NOTES:

1. For those who didn't follow Media Create 10 years ago, this "report" was a collection of anecdotal evidence I would put out each week covering the stores in my small town in Japan. I knew a lot of the shop owners pretty well and many of them would let me count the stock they had of various hardware and software. The data was not very useful on it's own but people could extrapolate or compare it from week to week.

2. The Switch hype reminds me of the time before the Wii. In fact, it was hard to get the one photo I have because there was so much foot traffic and people wanting to look over the game boxes. People are talking about this system, and not just the otaku gamers.

3. Television ads have been running on popular programs. Matsuko DX, Itte Q, etc. and they feature celebrities who my wife recognizes (even if I don't). I can't, off the top of my head, even remember the ads for the WiiU systems (though I remember the ads for Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D world). So this feels like an improvement. Still less than the Wii though.

4. Xbox One might as well not exist. Only Yamada Denki and Wanpaku have systems (or a single system in the case of Wanpaku) and only Yamada, Best, and Wanpaku have games. Well Book-Off has a single copy of Dead Rising 3 if that counts as a section. This is sad because the 360, while not a chart-topper, had floor space at all the game stores (though not prime space).

5. Prime spaces at stores are: 3DS and PS4 at Departments stores (Jusco, Youme). PS4, 3DS and Vita at the game stores. Switch displays are near the fronts of the stores for now but it will remain to be seen where they settle after release.

6. I have 3 kids now so I can't say this report is coming back on a weekly basis, but I'll do my best to do a few more of them during this exciting time.

7. As I type this report up I have a strong feeling that there is little if any useful information to be found in it. But thank you for allowing me to share.

^^nice report. It's one of those things where as much as I'm still sceptical about the level success the Switch can find in the West, i have a guy feeling that it's just going to explode in Japan, much better than any of us probably truly expect.

Thanks Vinnk! Nice read.

Looks promising for the Switch in Japan. Hopefully it will be the system that will revitalize the dedicated gaming market.
