What we know so far on Days Gone

Ugh... I didn't realize they were the same company that did Uncharted Golden Abyss. I really hope they have new writers cause I couldn't stand the writing/character writing in that game (I usually can deal with bad story writing, I like Bethesda games for crying out loud. But I had to use willpower to not skip each cut scene <- it's a policy of mine that I at least pay attention to the story the first time I play a game).

This kills my hype a little bit but maybe it will be different writers (people change in a company over time). But then again, the only other game I can remember recently whose story writing made me cringe that bad was Killzone Shadowfall and Horizon is said to have some really good writing (Granted they hired people more known for their writing this time around).

I know Sony Bend has been hiring but I wonder if they've made major pickups like GG when they were going through the paces with Horizon development.

Lol good move to the 2018 side and accept ya fate
Never

Anyway I'm pretty pumped for Days Gone. I love open world games (when done well), and I love zombie games. Fuck that oversaturation nonsense. Bend is a great studio (Syphon Filter FTW). A lot of the stuff in the OP sounds sick, especially being able to lead freakers into human encampments. Also I love Sons of Anarchy and am psyched to see a game explore the biker life

THAT BEING SAID I do think they need to show at E3 that there's a different hook to the game beyond "there's a lot of freakers and they run really fast at you." Although that's probably enough for the mainstream market

As far as Sony exclusives go, Days Gone is behind Death Stranding, TLOU2, and Spider-Man for me. It's even above God of War, though part of that is me not being 100% sure on the gameplay changes yet

I got grudge sucked!
Could be interesting but I hope for their sake its a 2017 holiday title and Sony doesn't Titanfall it.

At a certain point I think we're going to have to just own up to the fact that using zombies in your fiction is fine if it's executed well, and trying to call them anything BUT zombies is just disingenuous.

Own it, and make it work. Freakers, zeds, clickers, the infected etc., I think it's a bit pointless when PR tries to avoid using the term and spins it as if they're fundamentally different and original somehow and just calling them 'zombies' is an insult to their creative genius if that IS just what they are with perhaps some minor changes. Anyone else feel the same?

Game looks really interesting though, nothing against it at all, just a nitpick I have with zombie fiction.

holiday 2017 would certainly put it in a titanfall situation(not that I think its 2017 to begin with)

to be clear here battlefront 2,cod,destiny 2,2k,rdr2(lol) they'd be foolish to release t there even if ready

2010? That was a port of Logans Shadow, right? Their last game made for console was Omega Strain which I believe was 2003?

Wait, why did it only enter full production in 2015?

The devs said they went through a very long prototype phase and totally scraped a lot of ideas that weren't working out till they finally got to Days Gone. Seems like Sony gave them a lot of leeway to make something they really wanted to make and felt would be something special.

Apparently, one of the ideas they were pitching was an InFamous Vita game.

I dont know if you work for the devs, but that OP really hyped me on the game

I very much love the idea of a very interactive open world and a world full of people and wildlife

Didnt realize the horde waa but one enemy type and I love this idea that the game is an open world Last of Us with crafting and improvising.

I actually really like the main character like how I liked Joel or Daryl from the Walking Dead. Just a badass. I know he is a generic white guy, but Theres something I like about that somber country/southern character.

I'm very excited for the game, and all those details sound awesome, but they really need to nail the next demo or trailer they show, since the initial demo had a lukewarm reception, and they're gonna have to shake off the "TLOU/generic zombie game" label that it got.

haha I hope it didn't come off like marketing its just days gone and dreams are my most anticipated first party exclusives

What they showed at E3 showed promise, but mechanically it still looked a bit rough and there is question about how dynamic and rich the amount of systems that exist in the world/environment really is.

What they're talking in interviews so far sound promising, but now it's up to them to prove that they can blend all those systems together into one compelling package.

As a fan of Full Throttle and the bike gang tone, I want the game to deliver on a moment where you ride out on the highways chased by a horde of zombies while you shoot them with a shot-gun one handed.

I just hope they do a better job then Ready At Dawn with their first console game. I loved the PSP Syphon Filter games.

This isn't their first console game. They made PS2/PS2 games.

But they made good stories before. Their PSP games weren't bad stories.

I know people hated what they saw but I thought the trailer was lit.

I would wish the game truly has a big ass map with tons of different possible scenarios, and co-op.

Spring 2018 would work well for this, and the only way we aren't saying by to Bend.

Let Cage suffer the holidays alone, it could be inspiration for his next game.

I'm interested in seeing the final builds framerate cuz man that can't be an easy thing to do
I was looking at the gameplay trailer:

https://youtu.be/bGej8K1r8KI

The framerate does seem to sputter a bit at times. It's really an impressive number of enemies on screen though. I feel like if they can get the framerate stable, increase the feedback on enemies when they get shot, and maybe make the main character's movements a little less stiff, it could turn into something pretty solid.

Out of everything at Sony's E3 conference, this was what excited me most. Starkiller vs "Zombies" in an open world, what's not to love?

These things aren't exactly zombies, though. Instead they're infected humans, turned feral by some as yet unexplained disease. Because of that they're a little more reactive to the game's open world. "Every creature is different, they are a living type," explains senior animator Emmanuel Roth. ”They have some needs and behave differently depending on the weather, the location". We've only seen two variations so far: the main horde type and a ”newt" - an adolescent version that appears to be the ‘hide and jump on your back' type of bastard.
That danger will be something you can build up to, with Roth observing that, at the start of the game, the player will be in no state to handle the hordes seen so far (”that will happen later in the game where you are equipped enough to deal with them"). The open world also means you can avoid conflicts if you want. ”If you went to the saw mill and you didn't want to deal with the swarm, you're fine. You can go somewhere and deal [with things] the way you want," says Roth.

Fortunately you won't have to worry about thousand strong crowds at every turn. In my demo an alternate route showed off some smaller encounters, fighting off a few Freakers at a time in side a building. ”There's going to be different sizes of horde; you'll come across varying ranges of numbers," confirms Pape.

Thanks for the summary. Knew most of that as well but was still nice to re-read anyways.
I think many are underestimating the game atm. The infos for the game sound gread, now we just have to see if Bend can make a good game out of the ideas.

I hope this is good, but the grizzled dude fighting zombies feels like a trope that's well past it's use-by date.

I'm hoping that there's a twist, since the teaser footage seems to unintentionally indicate it's about a gay biker on a doomed quest to find a fisting partner.
He totally ignores the woman that's clearly trying to chat him up and give him a squeeze on the bike. And would the devs really not know about the hankie code...

If started full prod in 2015, it's an open world, new IP coming from someone who didn't work in a console game since 2010 or in this genre and has many important technical challenges and aim for supreme visuals... I think that the game is likely to be released in 2019. Holidays 2018 if we are super optimistic.

I'm looking forward for this game. Everything looks great and I think the team is super talented.

This get thrown away too often. Sony is not going to let all their exclusives to wait ps5 in 19/2012. Only tlou2 and death stranding i see realeasing in 2019 ro so.

This demo looked good , so i dont see problem releasing it this holiday or early 2018. Spiderman, gow, sucker punch new game ( 3 years since second son)...are all 17/2018 games. imo

After HZD this is the next game i am most interested in , apart from God of war.
Also Good thread , will post here if i came across anything, that include 4Chan leaks :p

I'm looking forward to this game. Most of all I really hope they nail the motorbike handling, as I think that'll make the game feel fun and I can't think of another open-world game with the onus on a hog. I also like the 'McGuyver mentality', like where in the E3 demo he used the oil canister as a makeshift silencer. Hopefully there will be tons of opportunities to crowd control and set traps for the hordes; stuff like dropping log piles on them, setting trip wires or priming cars to explode.

*Yes, this is an open world game. Bend called it a “dynamic open world,” and it’s being built with Unreal Engine 4...Take, for instance, the hordes of freakers seen in the demo...That horde will follow you indefinitely if you keep the right distance between it and yourself. Say you want to take out another human gang’s camp. Have that horde follow you and drag them all the way to your rival’s camp. The horde seeks the bigger target and does your work for you.

That sounds really cool; leading a horde to deal with an enemy camp and then taking out the stragglers.

Probably the only thing I don't like about this game (and it's very petty!) is their insistence on calling them Freakers and not zombies when they're basically the same thing. I guess it's a thing that's grown from The Walking Dead to call zombies by some other name like walkers, biters, infected, etc.

I didn't know this had wildlife in it. Could be interesting. It would be really great if they had big herds of animals like horses, bison (do you get bison in this region of the USA?), etc. And maybe things like packs of wolves or mountain lions if you venture too far into the wrong areas.

on paper choosing "openworld crafting with zombies" seems like the weakest creative solution though :D

Yes. It will be their Q1 new IP. Like The Order/Bloodborne in 2015, Horizon this year, and Sucker Punch's game in 2019

I'm with you on that - I can definitely see their next game taking a bit longer.

Could be interesting but I hope for their sake its a 2017 holiday title and Sony doesn't Titanfall it.

No, releasing it at the end of this year would be a terrible idea! There is going to be at least 3 massive third party sequels, and a game like Days Gone is probably going to want to stay as far away from RDR2 as possible.

He's the voice actor for Deacon? I had no idea. Didn't hear that at all in the E3 trailer last year.

No based on what?

Personally I think they'll be a 2018 release. They must have serious development issues if they need more than 4 years.

If SP are making a new IP set in a big open world 4+ years of development is not an unusually long time at all. Horizon has been in development in some form or another since after KZ3. Heck, even The Order 1886 was in development for like 4.5 years!

The fuel management system sounds like whats in mad max... which is great and an underrated game

Yeah, I loved the driving and car stuff in Mad Max - easily the best part of the game. If Bend can approximate that to their bike system it'll be fantastic.

My main complaint about it, it's the general plot. I know it's a free roaming, but everytime I'm looking to it, I can't avoid a redundant feeling. Too many things remind to TLOU, I'm asking if a total different narrative/situation, wouldn't been more appropriate.
This apocalyptic trend starting to be a little annoying for me.
