Just because the game isn't live on the marketplace doesn't mean that review builds don't exist..

The NA code I received is for an alternate build of the game that doesn't have the theme. I might still buy it this weekend when the spend $100, get $15 promotion starts back up.

I understand that, but the game out in the us and europe, so I'd think it would come out in our psn store, especially when reviewers are already getting copies.

Maybe it's some paperwork issues. Next week should be out

Bought it so I can go through it again for like the sixth time. The speed/fluidity of Ys is just

Marion-Cotillard-lip-bite.gif

so is the port good or bad ? I'm interested y'all spill the beans!

Seems fantastic to me? Loads are instant, looks great, etc. Takes like 2 seconds to save though (which is noticeable when everything else is super fast).

First boss down with Yunica.

For those who've played the game before, how much will the Mask of Eyes be used? Should I try it on often? Is it used for story progression or extra chests/items too?
It's not that often used iirc, but in general wherever it can be used there's going to be an indicator if you pay attention to your surroundings.

Looks and plays perfectly so far on PS4 (Pro). 60fps, widescreen, responsive controls, quick loadtimes. And it's a blast to play (my favorite being Oath).

Nitpicking: no AF (probably engine related?), FMVs are low-res and terrible (again it's more than 10 years old).

FMVs were natively in 640x320 on PC, so yeah, I wouldn't expect much out of them even with AA or whatever :V

So I'm stuck. I got my first bronze key and the door I used it on just had some bats in it and the room gave me nothing. The only other room is that one room where you're dragged to the center.

Am I missing something in that bat room?

You're missing something in the room with the bats, yes. Pertains to an item you recently found.

Equip the mask.

It plays well enough but I'm getting some weird audio glitches still

Yeah, there's stuff like missing sound effects from boss attacks if you retry a boss after dying from what I've noticed. Also had one crash on the second big boss.

Still doesn't hamper the experience of playing Ys Origin on a console though, and it controls well enough :)

Is it better to save my SP and rush for some blessing or I should just unlock them as soon as I have enough SP ?

Depends on the difficulty. One of the modifiers is on SP gain. (1.0x at Normal, 2.0x at Very easy and .5x on nightmare)

and also the character as well. I usually try to get powered up Eyes of Fact asap on Hugo.

You're just probably not gonna get most of them on certain difficulties. It's best to just keep your equipment maxed and go for any that seem interesting to you

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Feels weird to be playing Ys on a home console.

I'm used to Ys on handheld, heh.

Thanks for the info.

Anybody else has this bug after a few retry on a boss the fight will stop loading ? Gotta close the game and reload to fix it.

Do we have confirmation about this being cross-buy other than a PSBlog post¿ I don't wanna buy the PS4 now only to have to pay again for the Vita one.

Is it .5 on nightmare I could have sworn it was you get 1 no matter what you picked up on that mode.

You're probably right. I'm remembering the EXP modifiers I think.

Yeah it's been happening to me pretty consistently

I made it to Pictimos last night though and didn't experience it then, but I have on every other boss that I've died against.

Okay what the hell is the deal with Nightmare mode? Taking tons of damage I'm okay with. Only getting 1 HP from the Celcetan Panaceas I'm okay with. Getting reduced SP I'm okay with. But what does all the bosses having triple HP add? The damage is already cranked up so high that there's no room for error.

Upgrade your weapons it's a big important thing, also grind out a level if you are still getting exp fast every region in the tower has a high exp per clear room.

And yes boss fights last longer, it's why I don't ever reccomend people playing the other modes they spoil the shit out of you with how fast a majority of boss fights end.

Nightmare Ys bosses are basically single player mmo boss fights. They last between 3-5 mins on average with the crazier final bosses lasting near 7-10 minutes

But yeah that's the high thrill glory of nightmare, you go in getting manhandled you come out feeling like you can punch a mountain in half.

Souls games are kiddie pool games in comparison :p

Today I saw someone telling people to never play a Ys game above Normal on twitter

Your evil twin I suppose.

Looking at the trophies, so far most people that have completed the game so far have done so on Easy.

What's really shocking is that no one has obtained the Very Easy completion trophy yet. lol

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

How do you even unlock Nightmare? I only had Hard available by default(which I also think isn't greatly balanced either given my experience with the boss spikes so far)

But yea it's anything like prior Nightmare modes in Falcom games, its all bullshit tedium anyway. Even if you perfectly understand the pattern, the protracted fight doesn't present any added challenge, just a demand for precision perfection over a longer period of time. No extra variables, no added learning, just poor balancing.

LOL! You can already smash your face on the controller and beat Easy so I doubt anyone bothered with very easy. I'll probably plow it with hugo for laughs once I get my copy on the first. See if I can beat the game in under an hour xD

LOL non-nightmare Ys is boring as hell.

It's because all difficulty trophies stack except for the very easy mode one. Seems like a strange oversight.

How do you even unlock Nightmare?
.

You have to complete the game once to unlock Nightmare I believe

I should complete Hugo today so I'm going to confirm this. I'm also curious if it will require you to complete both character's stories to unlock the 3rd as well. If so it's probably based on the original PC version without Xseed's improvements.

I think you're forming conclusions based on incomplete assessments of the game.

The game is pretty reasonably designed. It's just very old school. My first run I had a lot of difficulty because I didn't know where to go at times and went into certain bosses unprepared.

but I mean right now playing on Hard with Hugo I'm at Pictimos with like 5 hours game clock time and have cleared most bosses barely taking damage. When you know what to get and when to get it the game is pretty balanced.

You took damage with hugo? Shame on you
:p

Does the game have the need to beat the game with all characters on nightmare trophy? If so I'm def doing Hard with Hugo first to knock it out of the way then start with Yunica for reals since Hugo breaks the hell out of the game should be over rather painlessly then do his nightmare after

Oh I'm just replaying the PC version. I don't remember having to unlock difficulties in that one, probably because Very Easy and Nightmare were originally added in an expansion disc that you could send in for from Falcom directly, which was later integrated into future releases.
LOL non-nightmare Ys is boring as hell.
I'm sure you have a lot of fun but I consider inflated boss HP to be a boring way to add challenge. It's really a sticking point for me personally in this case because I like every other part of Nightmare mode.

No skill on shoulder button is killing me. I can't have my panic button charged at all times while attacking anymore!

Wait the game doesnt have customized controls? D:

If it's taking you 6 minutes or longer to beat a boss you are doing his mechanics unoptimized or you are undergeared/leveled.
With the exception of two bosses

A thing to note is I've only ever played this game on nightmare what you considered inflated HP is normal HP values to me

REALLY?? That's excellent news.

I need to do a Very Easy run anyways for certain trophies, but this really reduces the amount of runs I had planned to do.

Yep. This is what someone on GameFaqs who completed the game wrote:

finished 1st pt on normal, got the trophy for easy and normal but not very easy. I still haven't unlocked nightmare or very easy even though I played through Hugo hard mode. 3rd character didn't unlock with Yunica, only after I finished Hugos game. Max level trophy is just a ridiculous time sink, everything else is fine.

Not sure how to unlock Nightmare mode though. Perhaps you need to finish the game with both characters?

It's so that you have to be consistent for a long stretch of time. If boss health were lower, there's more of a likelihood of a lucky run and a good difficulty mode should do all in their power to stop that.

I think that's a fair general rule tbh. I hate that approach to difficulty design myself as well.

but in Ys case I think it's more a matter of bosses having too little HP on difficulties below Nightmare, than Nightmare having too much. Like in Ys Seven, my favorite Ys game, I dropped end game bosses with like one EX attack by the end of my most recent playthrough on Normal.

I need Nightmare difficulties in Ys games lol. There's no shame in deciding that they aren't for you though. That's the whole point of having multiple difficulties.

Wait the game doesnt have customized controlls? D:

Nope. Huge bummer. So far I'm making due but I might end up remapping them through the system level option if it annoys me too much.

Yep. This is what someone on GameFaqs who completed the game wrote:

Ah ok. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then and see what happens. Next I planned on doing Yunica on Normal for the no death trophy anyways. Then Very Easy for all the dumb grind ones. (Max Level and all Blessings)

I mean I never thought that the Normal mode HP values were low enough that you could win that way, but I guess I can see the reasoning from the point of view of making an "Ultimate Ys Challenge" mode.
