JC VS. Craig Lamar
https://youtu.be/vwQpQTzUIgw

Should be great! Yeah JC 2-1, he went to work here! Craig did good though, his 3rd was dope. JC just spazzed I thought.
This battle is stupid fire. JC went OFF. JC 2-1 or 3-0, but no body, Craig Lamar did his damn thing.

JC low key one of the most consistent. Some of the stuff he says has that real

NvsWTUZ.gif

feeling.

Also I keep replaying that Scorpion line from Ryda in his Chef Trez battle over and over again in my head.

URL: Tech 9 vs. Jerry Wess.

Decent battle, nothing too crazy or hella replayable but it was enjoyable, and there was a lot of funny stuff. Tech 1st and 2nd IMO.

Ill Will VS. Charlie Clips
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUjiaT1B2zo

>_> Should've dropped Chess-Ave first SMACK! Meh battle, I skipped some of Clips 2nd and 3rd. I can't take it anymore. How many times this year has this man died?
This battle was a bit underwhelming, yeah. Feel like there was a lot that was uncapitalized on and it kind of had a weirder/lamer vibe as it went on. Still gave it to Will.

I knew something was off when they were OD cheering for Clips repeating bars from old battles, like, what?

The pity love Clips gets is very cringey. So many of those lines are decent at best and as naturally charismatic as Charlie is, he was quite clearly phoning the performance in. Couldn't finish the battle but I give it to Ill Will clearly.

KOTD - Rap Battle - Daylyt vs Gjonaj | #GvG
Gave this to Gjonaj, whew he had some crazy stuff. Dat Stranger Things line.

I have a lot of catching up to do. First thing...GJONAJ 3-0. I really appreciate his substance. Day had a a solid 1st and 3rd. He knows he got beat though.

UDUBB: Arsonal vs. Tay Roc. Edged Roc all three rounds. I feel like Roc's first is the best of the battle and got the least reaction.

No Mask: Arsonal vs. Serius Jones.

Also, High Stakes II Card:

Hitman Holla vs. Shotgun Suge
Tay Roc vs. Charron
Arsonal vs. Chilla Jones
DNA vs. Pat Stay
Chess vs. Rad B

Some decent matches on this card IMO. Excited for Tay Roc vs. Charron most of all. The Smack Killer finally gets Smack's top gunner.

A ward is okay. Just okay. I can't stand the angles these types of dudes usually take. Talking about how this person doesn't use a gun blah blah. Next line is something something I'll put you in a casket. That being said its gotta be hard to be a Christian battle rapper. I would personally just keep that to myself. But I mean... thats like expecting a vegan not to tell you they are... vegan. They are gonna let you know and they are going to remind you at every chance.

Battle was a bit too overhyped in my eyes. People raved about it on social media and clearly the staff at KOTD have as well for releasing it this early over some of the better battles from that event.

I mean, you're not wrong about his angles lol. He writes some nice lines though.

Finally caught up.

Tay Roc 2-1. Ars had a nice first and that was it really. Roc vs. Charron is gonna be gooooood!

T-Top 2-1. These mainstage URL battle are getting harder and harder to get through. I thought it was close, edged it to Top.

Serius 3-0. Even though Ars was kinda trash I enjoyed the back and forth and animosity.

URL: Chess vs. Ave. Need to watch it again, but I feel like I give it to Ave cause Chess was all over the place at times.

URL: Diesel vs. Krucial Ken. This was low key dope. Krucial Ken is pretty creative, gave it to him 3-0.

URL: Fettucine20 vs. Jakkboy Maine. Kind of forgettable. What I assume was supposed to be Fettucine20's moment of the battle had the dude blocking the camera the whole time.

URL dropped mad shit on Christmas. NOME 7 on April 8, 2017 with Rex vs. K-Shine headlining. Also Qleen, Ms. Hustle & JC back on URL in 2017! HYPE.

BITCH STOP WATCHING SMACK

BullPen: DNA vs. Loso.

Lots to get hype about! AVE-Chess was great! Ave's 1st and 3rd had some great moment and Chess' 2nd was dope. He really is evolving. Ave 2-1.

I watched Diesel-Krucial Ken randomly one night, eh...Diesel 3-0 not by that much honestly,Krucial Ken said some nice things though.

Hey! It's been a long time since have posted any of my battles here, but 2016 was a pretty good year for me. Had 6 battles, 4 wins, 2 were unjudged.

Got to battle Lex D, which was my first time getting to battle a real battle rap vet. Here are my two latest battles. Something CRAZY happens in the Swamptiger battle- not even kidding. I have another one dropping tomorrow.

BullPen: B Magic vs. PC. Magic got slaughtered. JJDD doing too much as a host TBH, tryna channel Bloe for real.

Also gave it Brizz 3-0 vs. Arsonal.

EDIT:

URL: Glueazy vs. Bedaffi Green. This battle isn't going to get much shine because they're not big names nor do they really have star power, but there is some fire material in here and it's one of the more consistent battles I've watched recently. 1st to Bedaffi, 2nd to Glueazy, 3rd to Bedaffi.

That Glueazy-Bedaffi battle is CRAZY! I got Glueazy 2-1 though!

URL: Tay Roc vs. Rum Nitty.

Kind of disappointing end to this storyline. Rum's Venue Loss bar in his first was better than Roc's whole first IMO. Roc only put in work in the third, still had some forced wordplay. Rum deserve better. 2-1 Nitty clear IMO, but Roc was a real bad sport in this battle I kind of don't even want to give him the third.

This is a solid ass battle. Really only didn't like Tez' 3rd but the other 5 rounds in the battle were fire. I think I'd edge Cortez 2-1.

Ayo, what are y'all best battles of 2016?
Battler of the Year?
Rookie of the Year?
Favourite moment in a battle this year?
Performance of the Year?
Bar of the Year?
Best comeback?
Biggest disappointment?
Bodybag of the year?

I'm watching Nitty-Roc later tonight but B. Dot-Cortez was flames! Best Cortez and B. Dot for me and i'm a fan of neither. If B. Dot keeps up like that I might start to like him. I got B. Dot 3-0, pretty close battle though.

I wanted to do an end of the year battle rap thing but got busy and forgot, you made it easy for me lol! I'll get on my choices.

Last year when I did this, I went back, rewatched everything again and put a lot of effort into ordering things but I don't have that kind of time anymore so this is mostly based off of reading my own posts in this thread over the year and I'm only really solid about the top 4 TBH. I've also missed quite a few battles this year, namely from people like QP, JC, DNA, A.Ward, Carter Deems, Head I.C.E., Real Deal, Soul, Raptor, and Xcel. Overall, while I feel like there a TON of exceptional performances or moments this year, as far as overall great, all-around rewatchable rap battles goes, there weren't as many as last year or other years. Also, not too many rising stars TBH.

Best Battles of the Year

1. Rum Nitty vs. Ave
2. Tsu Surf & Tay Roc vs. DNA & K-Shine (First Part)
3. Iron Solomon vs. B Magic
4. Thesaurus vs. Chilla Jones
5. JC vs. Craig Lamar
6. Ill Will vs. Rum Nitty
7. B Magic vs. Syahboy
8. Mike P vs. Tink Tha Demon
9. Ty Law vs. PC
10. Cortez vs. B.Dot
11. Chedda Cheese vs. Carter Deems
12. Yung Ill vs. Daylyt
13. Chilla Jones vs. Th3 Saga
14. Mike P vs. Daylyt
15. Head I.C.E. vs. Bigg K
16. Qleen Paper vs. Ty Law
17. DNA vs. Loso
18. Bonnie Godiva vs. Myverse
19. Glueazy vs. Bedaffi Green
20. Danny Myers vs. B.Dot

Battler of the Year: T-Top
- This one was super tough. For me, T-Top's year has signified a changing of the guards. He's been having a year most MCs dream of. Getting shots at and either having a debatable or outright beating Math Hoffa & Tsu Surf in addition to embarassing Magic/Chilla and Arsonal/Suge.
- There are a lot of good contenders for this all for different reasons that I wouldnt't be mad at: Ave, Cortez, Thesaurus, JC, Gjonaj, Iron Solomon, Rum Nitty, QP (from what I hear).

Rookie of the Year: Ave
- His two PGs were technically in 2015, and last year I even (hilariously in retrospect) said he wouldn't get far, but if Ave feels like a 2016 sensation and if counts he's unequivocally the rookie of the year. How fast he has risen and the consistently great performances he's had put him there and nobody comes close. Without exaggeration, close to half of all of the hardest bars this year are from Ave's rounds.
- My runners up would be Loso (came out of nowhere, had several great showings against names, and is different), B.Dot (two great performances, one that went viral, everyone wants to battle him, definitely right there with Ave as far as the most talked about MCs this year), and maaaaaaaybe PC.

Moment of the Year - This whole sequence of Tsu Surf (and Tay Roc) going bananas on DNA & K-Shine. Honestly, the MASSIVE increase in momentum leading up to a huge payoff is something you don't see often, and it is as glorious and rewatchable as it gets.
We got a problem, Houston (Whitney)
I bring a bitch with bald heads (Britney)
Could put it on the house (This shit smoking like a chimney)
Entry wound like a dime, (Exit wound like a Frisbee)
100-round drum makes the shooting shit easy (Big T's fingers after lunch, do ‘em greasy)
Before the shot (Hanes shirt)
After the shot (Yeezy)
Before the cut (Shumpert)
After the cut, (Beasley)

- Honourable mentions: DNA & K-Shine's flip of this same moment, Marvwon/Quest's First 48 sequence vs. Steams/Chess, Prep's ridiculous number of freestyles in his 3rd vs. Lottazay, Prep saying he's not going back to where Rich Dolarz is at, Rum Nitty's nose-running scheme, Brizz & T-Top's Goldeneye shit, Mike P's multi-of-the-year in his 3rd vs. Daylyt, Chilla clowning Th3 Saga's porn addiction, Math's Milly Rock. Seriously, this year was great for stuff like this.

Performance of the Year - Tsu Surf & Tay Roc's first round against DNA & K-Shine
- Legendary. One of the best rounds ever IMO, and I wouldn't just throw that kind of praise around.
- Honourable Mentions: Tone Montana against Dre Dennis, Both Ave and Rum Nitty in their battle together, Marvwon/Quest McCody's 2-on-2,

Bar of the Year - Rum Nitty against Ave
If I'm with the piece, you're family's fucked
Head shot ya mom's sister, they gon' have to M.O.P. your Ante Up

Honourable mentions:
- Brizz Rawsteen against DNA
Tell them The Bridge is Over, they gon' say "Brizz did that"
I'll leave a tool sittin' where ya tooth missin', That's how I Bridge the Gap

Tech 9 against Jerry Wess
WHICH ONE OF YOU N***AS WANNA BE A SHOWOUT? OR A SHOWOFF?
IF I SHOW OUT, SMACK GON' HAVE TO CUT THE SHOW OFF

- Ave against Rum Nitty:
See I've been 'bout that action
30 under the 40, that's an improper fraction

You wanna take a thug's gamble?
Understand, I'm strapped and fat, on both sides, n***a, I LOVE handles

Life ain't make you 6 feet... but death can

Gun butt with a mean grip
Serial (cereal) smacking his face like he's riding with Queenzflip

- Swave Sevah against Tink Da Demon
Let any chump have it - semis, snubs, 'matics
Razor across the head like you're 21 Savage

- Ryda against Chef Trez
I'm peeling out of both like Morpheus' hands
Then the next thing you know, the pound behind his head like the Scorpion stance

Best Comeback - Iron Solomon
- Even though Iron Solomon technically came back at the end of 2015, if I gave Ave the slide, I gotta give it to Iron Solomon too, who showed he could hang with Clips, Dizaster, and B Magic. Those are 3 MCs from 3 different eras that have independently earned their place in the history books. Iron already has too, but the fact that he can come back and do as well as he did is impressive and shits on most comebacks.
- Honourable Mentions: Tech 9, Yung Ill, Bill Collector, E-Ness

Biggest Disappointment - Hollow Da Don vs. Pat Stay (Re-do)
- This is one of those endgame matchups we have all envisioned would be a classic for years and, while it had it's moments, it was ultimately disappointing and nobody is really talking about it. It might not even be their fault, all of Hollow's best material was in the one rounder that took place in the UK, and Pat Stay was clearly fed up with the whole situation he got forced into and he ended up using bits of all of his rounds in that one rounder just to please the crowd. Yet another classic matchup ruined by outsiders trying to make a buck off of battle rap.
- Honourable Mentions: B Magic and Daylyt not showing up to Born Legacy, Tsu Surf vs. T-Rex, B Magic falling off, Ty Law doing well off-Smack but his Cyssero battle being forgettable, Math's fall from grace

Bodybag of the Year - Bishop Brigante bodying Cyssero
- How the FUCK do you show up to a ONE ROUND BATTLE and CHOKE at the START of your ONLY ROUND. FUCKOUTTAHERE.
- Honourable Mentions: Saint Mic bodying Anubis, Tone Montana bodying himself vs. Saint Mic, Rum Nitty bodying Clips, Clips bodying his own career, QP and K-Shine bodybagging themselves, Tsu Surf bodying himself vs. T-Rex, PC bodying B Magic

Good list! Damn, I forgot about A.Ward vs. Saint Mic.

Share your favourites of 2016 y'all. Doesn't have to be a formal listing or all of the categories, just whatever you enjoyed most in 2016.

EDIT: High Stakes 2 sounds like a classic event TBH. Can't wait for the battles to start coming out.

What a disaster that UDubb event was. As for the PPV, Rapgrid should be ashamed for that mess. I didn't catch a ton, but i'm pretty sure Charron potentially 3-0'd Tay Roc.

Hitman 2-1 over Suge. Decent battle, nice aggression, meh bars, nothing more. No pocketcheck was bs.

I honestly think Prez is going to die.

Ended up caving and watching some of the battles.

Hitman 2-1. I think it was a good match, just don't think the direction Hitman tried to go panned out all that well in the third. Not sure if it could have ever lived up to the hype and lead-up, but I thought it was entertaining and they both put effort in.

Charron 3-0. Feel like both this battle and Hitman/Suge dropped quite a bit in quality and energy after the first rounds. I thought this was going to be a classic if they both kept the energy they had in the first, and it almost seemed like Roc was going to take Charron seriously, but both had dry spots. Roc just had more than others, have no idea what he was doing at all in the 2nd. Charron went off though, seriously.

Thinking I'm scared of a Calicoe, I'm NOT PAT STAY

Try to make bars without a glock or an AR
You want to see a K-Shine, or an Arsonal or Clips? I'll bring you to my graveyard

Those aren't even my bars. I'm not even saying them right.
I just wanted to spit a Jadakiss verse before Suge does later tonight

"My loyalty is with Smack, nobody is worthy of these gun bars"
Delete. Disappeared quicker than a Tsu Surf gun charge.

I hope that Franchise dude from Canada surprises everyone and kills Brooklyn Carter, he trash. Garbage.
I remember back in 2013 when some site or another had Brooklyn Carter vs. Steams as the battle of the year.

I admit, I fell for a bit of the hype back then because people were desperately trying to make it sound like it was the next JC vs. Chilla Jones. Trying to go back and even watch that battle is painful because it's kind of the start of the choppy PG rapper flows in a lot of ways. And it isn't even from a real URL event, it's from a WeGoHard event a.k.a. the LEADERS IN MC GASSING CULTURE.

TBH, I don't think there will ever be a battle that captures the magic of JC vs. Chilla Jones ever again. It felt so genuinely fresh at that time and hasn't aged a day

Ignore all this n***a's symptoms
I catch Chilla chillin'
Boy that 5th clap, that bitch kick back like it's chillin' with him

If I peep inside that Jeep you drive and I see papes
Then ima follow you with the chopper like a high speed chase

I got Gutta 2-1. Battle was mostly light/low-energy.. I only remember one line Gutta had about Reepah's face paint which was fire. Rell is super hit and miss and Gutta has a lot of set ups which is fine, but they don't hit hard enough all of the time.

Yeah I thought it was 2-1 either way, the 3rd was the deciding factor for me. Rell had a couple better punches, Gutta has more substance...i'm gonna go with Rell 2-1....Rell's 3rd was getting to Gutta.

Good lord at the gas in that Jaz battle, was pretty amazing though, E Hart was fire. Jaz 2-1.

Twork and Glueazy was fire too! Twork 2-1!

Probably won't watch Hitman-Suge again.

URL PGs: Kapitol vs. Pharoah. Okayish. Kind of forgettable.

Geechi Gotti is cool. Dude has swag, 3-0, no body. That Mike Jones line, WHEW. A lot of good stuff.

Showoff beat Math, not just because his material was trash but he was being heckled and disrespected the entire battle too. Yet another bad look for Math. Pretty much every angle went flat. Battle was definitely a trainwreck.

Verb vs. Thesaurus is pretty fire. Verb 2-1 with Thesaurus in the 3rd, but 1st is debatable IMO. Verb actually put some effort in, so that was really nice to see + he also owes the West Coast and KOTD a good performance, and Thesaurus was great as usual. Also, KOTD's short and sweet battles are much more appealing to me nowadays than these long ass URL edits. Also that a battle between legends was actually not terrible.

Charron's 1st is my round of the year thus far.

Suge and Pat Stay catching strays, Arsonal, K-Shine and Clips getting the double tap.

The Smack Killer deserves Surf next, he's earned it.

His Pat Stay line was good and all. and he knew exactly how the crowd would react to that. I have to say how stupid it is people still think Pat backed down to Calicoe. I rewatched that battle last week and I was like wtf.. are people remembering this wrong? I don't know what people expected anyway.
