"An 8 is an 8" is true only in the sense that different scoring systems mimic each other enough to produce results that look roughly similar to other outlets', but they're not doing that by adopting some sort of unified system of scientific review scoring. All scores are equally lacking a foundation.

Animation isn't tied to the engine and it looked really good on decima. I had a blast with UD, don't recall frame rate issues so if it had it, it didn't bother me. Most people who played it seem to love it. One of my favourites this gen.
Until Dawn definitely suffered from framerate issues, but because of the nature of the game (being more of a narrtive-driven affair rather than the type of game that requires precisely timed gameplay inputs) most people were probably willing to overlook them. I know the framerate problems definitely didn't hamper my enjoyment of it (I personally thought it was one of the best games that came out that year).

Still, it's clear that Guerrilla have done a terrific job optimizing the engine for Horizon. It's especially notable because back when the game was announced I remember reading that Guerrilla were originally having trouble getting the engine to work for an open world game (as opposed s more linear type of game like Killzone).

Thanks to a price mistake cancellation giving me a $10 credit, I just got a sweet deal. I was late to this hype train because I wasn't sure it would be one...

Nice.

I got the Prime discount and a $5 credit applied to mine because of a mistake on Amazon's part with another order I had. I'm getting it for ~$45.
Cool.

Yeah, I've been short on money recently, and usually would've skipped out on getting this game day 1 due to having many unplayed games already, but thanks to an amazon glitch that doubled my discount (on top of a reduced promotional price) I'm getting it for $32.54 CAD (24.84 USD) including taxes. Same price for Nier Automata as well.

And while I have no intention on playing Ghost Recon Wildlands, it's part of the same glitched order, and got an even heavier pricedrop temporarily, resulting in me getting it for 22.59 CAD (17.25 USD) after tax. Gonna sell it as soon as I receive it and make a decent profit. Only have FF7R and Sea Of Thieves left as part of that order after these games come out.

Scores... what a miserable pile of secrets.

See, even with my review and problems. I'd rate my experience as a 10. It gave me one of my first huge wow moments this gen, in graphics and style and how it all comes together. Game continues to wow the more I play. With my schedule, I don't put 30 + hours into anything within two weeks normally. Horizon keeps my attention when I have so many other great games I'm still playing like Yakuza 0, or Resident Evil VII. I'm hoping I can truly finish before Zelda at this point.

"How is this thread on 92 pages in one week?" *checks thread* "oh..."

I can't remember the last time a review thread has ever engendered positive discussion...

I really liked kz2. Bridge assault. Offfgh. Looked so good for it's time too. Loved the grey and brown world. Too bad they took the criticism of the colour palette onboard and kz3 was so colourful. :/

I'm tired of how almost everyone on GAF picks apart every game for the slightest blemish but Until Dawn's rocky framerate gets a full pass almost every time it's mentioned.

I love the game, but the performance is embarrassing.

We still have some silly discussions every... 5 to 10 pages but it's been a pretty good place to be overall. Here, Spoiler and Impressions thread, quality stuff.

I mean, seriously .. I'm never going to finish this game if my urge to stop and use Photo Mode every 8 seconds remains high.

I actually did a lot of Photo mode, or so I thought. Except my PS4 didn't capture screens til I went in there and changed its mode to simple capture. :/ Lost hours of screen caps. lol - some good stuff too.

It's such a high quality PM and the encounters with these robots makes for some amazing pics.

I'm gonna have to go digital to play on launch day. I forgot Amazon is using my card I had to cancel because I lost it.

I can honestly say that i never encountered any frame rate issues with UD, maybe i'm immune to them?

So I am playing along and was wondering do the dialog choices you make (aggressive, passive, etc) make any difference on how a quest will end? Or do you eventually just reach the same conclusion regardless of the choice you pick.

Ordered on PSN just now, no sign of a pre load. I tried going to library and I don't see an option to download it, and there is nothing in my notifications>downloads section. Anyone else have this happen? In USA if that matters.

Gaaah! I intend to go digital and this meant I could play midnight on Friday. As I work nights I was intending to swap shifts with a colleague so I had Thursday night off. Now I've found that's not possible as he has to cover for someone who's going to a funeral. Oh well.

I was wondering the same. I played on my brothers PS4 (and his profile) yesterday for a few hours and then started over again when i got home on my PS4 and profile and so since I had seen a lot of the dialogue from not skipping any on the first play through, I skipped thru a lot of it the 2nd time around.

I feel like I noticed a side quest missing on the second playthrough that was revealed thru choosing a different discussion path from earlier. I was still able to access the side mission by simply going to the area but it wasn't auto added to the map.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

So true. It reached a tipping point for me with The Last Guardian when the garbage I was reading on here was totally contrary to what I was playing.

Yes, you seem to be immune.

Because UD has some of the worst framerate this gen, especially in a first party title.

I remember stuttering, is that the same? I'm horrible for detecting technical problems. The worst thing I've experienced this gen is Firewatch and Telltale's Batman, both have horrifying performance.

answer to your questions
I don't feel like it does have any impact - just different bits of dialogue

very end game spoilers
but I laughed when Aloy killed the bad guy and acted all aggro when I picked the rage option

Just preordered the Horizon Zero Dawn Digital Deluxe Edition from Amazon. Used my No-Rush credits and got it for $60.

Now the wait begins.

Oh man, Batman. That game... Yikes. Yea, UD wasn't that bad thankfully.

Huh, I can't seem to get my UK digital preorder to download. I see it in my library under purchased with the countdown, but when I go on it there's no option to download. I can download the art book and the themes just fine though.

EDIT
Seems to be due to the beta update 4.50, uninstalling it solved it for me.

Is there any other way to solve this? I dont want to uninstall 4.50

You can probably go back to 4.50 beta after downloading.

I didn't realise there was a new beta version, I was on 4.50 beta 3, so I updated to version 4 and after the PS4 restarted, Horizon began downloading.
