... It has? Cause I'm pretty sure if something is $5 on PSN, it's actually $4.99. Lots of times I've ended up with 1 cent left on my account.
It's not for psn, the money is for the states...

Me and my friends live in NYC as well and we aren't ever taxed. MS and Nintendo is taxed on their stores though. I hope it stays the way it is now :/

Doesn't the email in the OP state that they'll start charging for taxes from April 1st? I don't know if the state of Florida will charge taxes in this matter or not but even if it does decide to do, you won't see it until after April 1st.
Right now, even all the mentioned states in the OP will be PSN tax free until April 1st.
Blame your state, not Sony. I'm in CA and haven't seen anything from anyone digitally outside of streaming subscriptions. And you gotta know Apple and Google are based in CA, and Microsoft/Sony have branches here.
I too am upset that I don't get to hand the government 13% on all my psn purchases.
Seriously, everything is taxed and/or gives you cancer in this state.
Why would you blame Sony for this?
No indication for my state so far, but so much of my purchasing is through Amazon ($47.99 shipped, day one arrival on new games for prime) that it wouldn't really impact much. But wow, this is hilariously bad timing for 4.50 coming out and finally allowing external usage, if they were hoping to get more digital customers that way. I'll just be loading the drive up with disc installs.
