Here are some issues I have with the Switch launch for us to politely discuss

OS
Aside from being as barebones as it gets; Miiverse, StreetPass, the Internet Browser and Activity Log are now gone. There's no built-in achievement system or party chat which have become industry standards, nor is there apps of any kind such as Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify. Nintendo publicly stated friend codes were going to be eliminated but that's not the case, they have made a return with even the most basic of messaging features being nonexistent. Save data can't be transferred in any way, shape, or form. External media such as audio, video, and images can't be accessed.

Accessories
You can debate worth but there's no denying the fact that the accessories are expensive. The feeling is amplified due to competitor items being priced much lower. Everything feels like an additional fee, from Nintendo not including a charging grip or mic with the Switch, the inevitable Joy-Con with a d-pad, needing the HORI Compact Playstand to charge and play your Switch in tabletop mode, a screen protector so your screen doesn't scratch while docked, to being forced to buy a microSDXC card sooner rather than later due to the paltry 25GB of available storage.

Games
Most seem to be either overpriced, compromised in the form of graphical fidelity and performance in comparison to competitors, or just simply a port of an indie title. The few games that don't fall into this group such as Sonic Mania and Puyo Puyo Tetris are typically handicapped by something such as the the lack of a d-pad. Third-party AAA support is nowhere to be found. The Virtual Console could have helped fill a void but it hasn't been announced as to when it will be available.

Connectivity
You must use a smartphone app to play and communicate with friends. Bluetooth audio devices are not supported.

Online
The online service now costs money with no real value proposition.

Gimmick
It's touted that the Switch comes with two controllers out of the box. Now that I and many of you have experienced it firsthand, there's no way it's more than a novelty. It's just not very comfortable nor is it practical for most games and it's even more frustrating that this was the reason Nintendo removed the d-pad. No one will ever be able to comfortably play a title like Splatoon 2 or Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers with a single Joy-Con. HD Rumble will go down as this generations power of the cloud; it's cool but forgettable.

Hardware Issues
The left Joy-Con is having widespread problems causing it to de-sync at random. Nintendo included a dock that scratches your screen after extended use, they also claim if you have dead pixels on your Switch, it's not a defect. Wi-Fi has limited range with some being unable to connect to the internet. The kickstand is cheap and flimsy which can cause the Switch to fall over.

I want to love the Switch and tell everyone how great it is. It's a solid piece of hardware and I'm sure the game lineup in terms of first party content will turn out great, over time. But I do feel like Nintendo is a company run by stubborn old men who are out of touch with reality that take advantage of their loyal fan base.

Shigeru Miyamoto said:
What are those roles?
Well, I'm the boss. Because I'm the oldest.

You mentioned earlier that you're the boss because you're the oldest. Do you ever worry about getting older and whether what you think is fun is really in tune with other people?

Even if I worried about that, it wouldn't do us any good. For me it's much more fun to see if the thing that I made is actually going to sell well. Rather than me trying to create something that I think other people will like, I just keep making things that I like and then I just see if other people like them too.

It was rushed because the Wii U was a colossal flop. And it shows. Hopefully in 12 months it's more fully realized and it is still viable

Isn't there an OT for it?
Or is that a "negative impressions need to be in a separate thread" one?

I'm loving my switch. No dock scratches, no disconnecting joycons, and it can be charged by my MacBook pros USB c charger. I hit the Switch jackpot.

How many times are you going to make this thread?
I made something similar once and it was locked due to the Switch not being out. Now that it's out and I and many others have experienced it first hand, I feel it's easier to discuss.

With the exception of not having stock and the delivery clusterfk, I don't think it's possible to conclude that the Switch has failed yet.

We can talk about how they've succeeded in finally making a compelling piece of hardware that people are attracted to in itself, in addition to their games. It's the talk of the town in a way Nintendo consoles usually aren't. It's a great start for what could be a positive shift in their recent hardware run. It's probably their best idea in decades and they managed to make it reality.

Of course there are issues. Some will be fixed. Some compromises are always made. But no, I don't think we'll focus on 'how much they've failed'.

Mandatory systemic achievements still aren't an industry standard - and never should be - no matter how much you love achievements or keep declaring how they are

My GameStop has an abundance of switches. Hoping its not a sign that my GameStop is absolutely terrible at advertising they sell switches.

GAF has soon gone complete circle, all we need is the "Was the Wii U actually Nintendo's best console ever"-thread.

I love mine so far. The OS is the snappiest I've seen. I do hope they add music, but I'd rather have this with no music than the Wii U OS.

Zelda, shovel knight and Snipper Clips will keep me busy for awhile.

Joy cons feel great, pro controller feels great, screen looks good.

Sure, there is lots of room for improvement (thank god they can do software and OS updates, as well as release new games right?) but I'm definitely happy so far.

Been enjoying my system a lot. Has a lot of possibility as far as virtual console and Indies and Nintendo first party. I'm excited to see what the next few years brings.

I'm pretty lukewarm on mine. Pretty incredible to me how many problems are popping up now that the system is out. I kind of regret getting it.

Man I like the Switch (even if I didn't buy it yet) but I'm getting tired of all the threads and negativity and complaints and stuff.
Feels like there's a thread for anything about it and then people blow things out of proportion for the smallest things

Just take a deep breath sometimes and chill jeez

Bruh. It's been a day. Before you show your bias, wait a bit. Also, why the Miyamoto quote when Koizumi is the Switch Manager?

well, I had my concerns first aswell but now, after getting the switch, I think that it works very well along with a ps4.

I disagree with much of what you say. Some of the complaints are simply not true for me, and others will obviously be addressed in time (apps, games library). Now, that doesn't mean Nintendo doesn't deserve criticism, by to call the Switch a failure after two days is silly tantrum talk.

I and many many others like me are, for now, more than happy with a great piece of versatile hardware and one of the greatest games ever made (also by Nintendo).

Played Zelda in bed yesterday, played Zelda in bad this morning, played Zelda on the tv during the day, played Zelda in the couch while my gf was watching a movie this evening. All the same save.

Let's talk about how much nintendo has succeeded.

Mostly enjoying my Switch. Any problems I have with it are purely software based and easily fixed. (lack of games, no Netflix, wish there were themes/music for the OS/eShop)

OP yes we should be able to discuss these things but due to the fanbase threads like these will end up completely toxic. It's not unlike the situation that occurs here with a new big game launch. Any thing NG critical or casting the product in a negative light gets attached and torn down instead of discussed. Please know that there are some of us who acknowledge these things and are waiting patiently to discuss them without the fervent attack force once things calm down a bit from their current fever pitch.

Personally would have liked the OP be more fleshed out to describe the issues the switch has and the title to be different, Should be something like *Is Nintendo's hardware still holding back the great software". "Failed" just automatically makes for a bad conversation going forward, can see this one getting locked too.

I mean, this thing is basically a zelda machine for the next couple months. Hopefully all that OS stuff gets updated/changed soon.

I have a switch, and I'm lukewarm with it. Been experiencing annoying joycon detection issues when I remove them or plug them back in, my right analog was broken, the kickstand is really loose and there's not much more to do with it than Zelda. Peripherals are quite expensive too. Zelda is super amazing which I think will let people give a pass to Nintendo, but I think the system isn't in an amazing state. I think it's worth criticizing. The "I'm happy with my switch" posts don't really add anything.

Loving my Switch so far and I went in with very low expectations. Things are barebones at the moment yes, but what's there is fantastic. I also think that the launch lineup has some fantastic games though. I've got 5 right here at launch and I'm loving them. That's just a taste thing though. I will grant you that the scratching dock thing is unforgivable however.

I'm not saying the points you make aren't valid, but I'm honeslty not sure the Nintendo audience really wants all those things. Some things like Friend Codes should go, I agree and the Switch as a whole (as of right now) feels a bit half-baked. That said, I have a PS4 and if I want most of those things I'd fire up that system and watch Netflix on that. I'm just not in the market for those things and the Switch serves me just fine for what it is. I'm sure lots of people are, but then the Switch might not be for you, it's as simple as that. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it and so far it's fine for me.

Loving the Switch and ability to seamlessly move from big TV gaming to portable mode. It's actually kinda blowing my mind how much I wanted this without realizing it.

So, yeah, the Switch isn't perfect, but it will improve over time, as all new systems do.

my experience so far is very positive. incredible handheld device. i kinda miss clamshell design though.

Id really like Miiverse and Streetpass down the line though. Those were such good features and the Switch has everything for it to work.
