The audience also disappeared on the PS4.

So either the audience is still on the PS3 or people moved away from the IP somewhen between the move from PS3/VITA over to PS4/Switch.

Disgaea badly needs a reboot, but I also meant that a niche game wouldn't sell gangbusters at the launch of a console not appealing yet for niche audiences.
It'll be more interesting when the Vita audience starts transitioning, I doubt it won't sell more over time when it's cheap.

As someone pointed out for Setsuna, it also won't have the same appeal in the west since it came out way earlier before, and in some cases, on other similar platforms.

Watch the next Disgaea bring back the original cast again since they are actually popular with the fans rather than try to fix the series.

Will that happen though?

To do that the Switch would have to be receiving the software support Vita got and there's no sign that's the case. The failure of Disgaea will discourage other Vita developers from trying to make the Switch(tm).

Nintendo needs big RPGs for Japan, I don't know how much DQ XI is going to help tho when that game is on 3DS and PS4.

Good job Nintendo has the biggest RPG franchise as an exclusive.

What big RPGs are left beside DQXI ?
The next Tales Of is likely to come on Switch too, since they listed the IP to be a Switch-partner in January.

Nah, we've overdue a new version of Phantasia and the Joycons are perfect for multiplayer.

You keep saying that about Disgaea, but I don't see it.

Any news on a Switch restock?

Stores are saying the 10th/11th for restocks and they will most likely be in limited supply.

Also can we stop fucking extrapolating any relevance from Disgaea? It was is a poorly priced, old port of a dying franchise. There is no future lesson to take from it other than Nippon Ichi needing a kick in the ass to revive the franchise.

I'm sure it will happen.
As soon as part of the audience transfers (aka not the hardcore "I'll die with my vita" fans), more support will come. The issue is more that some of the devs/pubs that'll attract this audience haven't released much (Disgaea for example), if at all yet, but from what has been teased or announced (continued support from NIS, Marvelous with Takaki making a game, KT, indies, etc), the support for this kind of stuff is already more promising than what was tested on DS/3DS/WiiU for example.

But obviously, with the current release/announcement rhythm, nothing will really happen this year to start the transition.
I don't think anyone is thinking Disgaea's failure on the launch week means really anything for now...

I think Super Bomberman R is a better game to look at. The game is a part of a dead franchise that got a spotlight due to the lack of other exciting software at launch. Other companies missed a big opportunity to make some quick cash with relatively low investment.

Curious to see how Nier holds up next week; because its possible that it may have been held back by stock shortages. Not that even it didn't shift a single unit more it still wouldn't be considered a surprise success, just curious to see if it has real legs.

I mean the software numbers exceeded the number of system sold with physical copies alone. Things seem fine in that regard.

The number one game is teetering on half consoles sold and clearly buyers brought more than one game. That gap is concerning along with the software numbers and general. This is supposed to make it to the holidays remember.

Vita ain't transitioning till they get compile heart games.

I wouldn't consider it concerning. There is no such thing as a game for everyone. The switch owners that wanted Zelda bought and those that didn't bought something else or are holding out for games coming soon. I can't think of a game at launch that had a close to 1 attach ratio outside of bundled games. Zelda has been weakest in Japan compared to the rest of the world for a while now. Nintendo is also releasing games at a steady pace this year. A couple month from now after supply start to stabilize will be a better indication about how the system is doing. Nintendo also has a big game for the holiday as well.

You don't see how a typically PS franchises doing only a 1/4 of what it did on Vita would discourage other devs?

I'm sure it will happen.

I don't think Switch support has anything more than the 3DS got though with the exception of Disgaea/NIS. They were also caught in the Kenka Bancho 6 trap, all the other titles PSP/Vita fans like are nowhere to be seen on Switch.

d1 ps2 > d2 ps2> d4 ps3 = d3 ps3 > d1 psp > d5 > d1 ds > dd2 > d3 ps vita > d4 ps vita

i think d5c should do around what dd2 did, or at least better than d3 ps vita.

So the franchise has been in a pretty steady decline apart from D3 to D4 then? That's pretty bad for NIS.
