Just got me a 4K TV and I'm getting a cutoff purple/green image when I'm using it as a second display at 3840*2160 at anything above 30hz. Is it because I'm using a pretty old huge ass HDMI cable? Guess it needs HDMI 2.0?
It's a Samsung UE55KU6079 for what it's worth.

No, components dont die unless you have them under extreme temperatures and volts for very long time.

For the love of God, don't get the 3GB version if you are planning to keep it that long. That's incredibly stupid. What is another 50-ish bucks for something you use for that long?

No, it doesn't affect the lifespan. And you can even overclock it some more (which is extremely easy) without having to worry about it breaking down. If it does, it wasn't because of the small overclock.

I know... Problem is I was going to buy the 1050 (2GB), so with the 1060 3GB I'm already +100 bucks over the originally planned budget. :/

Do yourself a favor and wait a bit longer so you can afford the 6GB version. 3GB is already a bad decision in 2017, way more so 4-5 years in the future.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd send you 30 bucks to help pay for the 6GB version if you send me a paypal address. No bad feelings if you don't want it, I'm just feeling nice tonight and wouldn't mind helping another gaffer out. :)

Starting to look at M.2 storage... would the WD Blue be fine for running games? Blue seems to be the cheapest (aside from Green) but I don't know if I should shell out more money than I need to.

I know this isn''t a thread specifically for this, but has anyone gotten their settlement checks from the GTX 970 vram fiasco yet? I had two gttx 970 at one point and signed up for the settlement..... just wondering if anyone else had seen some cash yet.

Guys, I need some advice here.

I have a new PC and will start to game on it. I have not gamed on PC since the early 2000's so its completely alien to me. The PC is quite powerful but I think with my setup I can make it even better via overclocking. Is there any one click, easy, safe, zero risk overclock programs or settings that are VERY simple to use and revert to stock settings? I mean I probably dont need the boost, but if I am 100% safe in doing an adjustment here and there why not get some added performance? or is there always a risk?

Your mobo has an auto OC feature right? Probably accessed thru the BIOS and also a button on the board. That's literally one click.

Also, in terms of software for more and better options, Gigabyte has Easy Tune that you should be able to download from your mobo model website if you don't have a disk reader for whatever software came packaged in the box.

What is the best small handheld vacuum cleaner that you'd recommend for general desk/computer dust cleanup?

This looks like it would do the job, has pretty decent reviews and is Amazon's best seller.

My main concern though is that there really isn't a bendy attachment and you might not be able to clean some places.

I've seen small USB powered mini vacuums but none of them have good reviews and all look like kinda cheap garbage.

I know this is a long shot that probably nobody knows, but when are the new GTX series expected? generally how long does each generation lasts, because I don't know if I should get a 1070 now or just wait for a 1060, 6 months I'm fine with.

It's probably going to be 6 months or more if I had to guess. The GTX 1080 Ti doesn't release until Friday and some of the aftermarket variations won't even be releasing until around May. It wouldn't make much sense for them to release the next series right afterwards and have customers with buyers' remorse so soon. Plus they're updating the GTX 1080 and the GTX 1060 with faster memory... if they were going to release newer cards then I would assume they'd leave the previous series alone so that the marketing team could say that the gap between the two generations of cards was bigger. I'd guess late 2017 or early 2018.

Old advice.
Blower cards are louder, that's about it.
You could have aftermarket
70c CPU temp -silent
65c GPU temp -silent

Or blower
60c CPU temp -silent
75c GPU temp -loud

Have a proper exhaust flow and you won't run into issues with the case temp rising over time.

Some cpu cooler, dont think my old fits (Thermalright HR-02 Macho rev.a)

mobo + cpu + memory are some bundle that saves me about 100€

Stuff I have:
gtx970
SSD:s + HDD
case, 144+60hz screens, fans, kb+mouse etc

Yes it will be mainly for gaming so I think it will be better than ryzen.
Next I will upgrade gpu and screens whenever I feel like I need to.

Just got my i7 7700K set up with my new MSI Gaming M7 and holy hell everything is so fast and responsive, I'm just talking about from boot to OS and web surfing only. Haven't even had time to game yet!

This is coming from an i7 860 (which will be my new media PC).

Loving this so much right now!

What's your old system? I'm betting your cooler works, unless you are upgrading from 775. Could also try asking thermalright to send you a mounting kit for free, a lot of companies will do that provided you show them a receipt/invoice. That cooler is still pretty damn good.

But other than that, yeah, looks like a sweet build. I think 970s are still perfectly fine at 1080p/60, at 1080p/144 you probably have to dial some settings back to maintain your fps depending on what you are playing. Maybe consider selling your 970 and upgrading to 1070 (or 1080 if you are going to upgrade monitors to 1440p/144fps) for much better frame times and IQ.

Is it normal that encoding H264 video produces much higher temps than a CPU stress test for AIDA64?
When encoding video using avisynth the temperatures usually hover around the high 60's/low 70's, spiking up to 78-79 on rare occasions, whilst the temps average about 61-62 when doing a CPU stress test. I'm currently overclocking my 7700K at 4.7GHz at 1.2V.
Also how long should I run an AIDA64 CPU stress test for? I've had one going for about 2 hours at the aforementioned values without issue.

You need a HDMI High Speed cable. Unfortunately many of them are complete crap so you might want to read reviews before buying as many have issues especially if you need a longer length.

I'd spend the money on the extra 16 GB RAM towards a bigger SSD if you don't have an actual valid use for that much RAM. Also check reviews for your cooler as often the AIO coolers perform no better than air coolers and you just replace some fan noise with pump noise in the worst case. I find AIO water coolers more useful for GPUs.

I have the Kraken X62 and the pump is definitely less of a problem than the fans. :p
Just make sure you setup your profile to set max fan speed at 95% as it's waaaaaaay quieter than 100%. :p

going from a Dark Knight tower to a Corsair 100v2 with custom fans, I can tell you it was more than worth the change. The 1900rpm pump mode is completely silent in my Lian Li PC-05sx, and the fans can opperate at 20% 99.9% of the time as I tie their profile to the systems water temp instead of the CPU temp.


8 hour civ 6 game with an i7 6700k running at 1.4v at 4.8ghz = 64 degress with fans running at 800rpms. Dead silent. Water temp never breaks 31c.


Now I just need to figure out how to get another radiator on this case for the 1080 TI. may need to switch to a custom loop, but not sure a 240mm radiator could handle both a 1.4v cpu and a TI.

Hey guys, I installed a 1070 Videocard, but CPUZ shows it as a 1080? what gives?

it shows a 1080 in CPUz as well as geforce experiance. Also, the gigabyte app that shows the system

I just looked though the glass of my PC sidewall and looked at the numbers on the back plate.

it all matches their 1080 information from their site, numbers, UPC ETC. It even says 1080.

What are the fucking chances?!!?!?!
