How the hell do I use the ropecaster properly? I was fighting a single Sawtooth earlier and all the ropes I fired at it just seemed to bounce off. Same thing with Snapjaws and other robots. Am I supposed to aim for specific parts or something? Just feels completely random.

I'm using the shadow ropecaster, if that makes any difference.

Came across the ruins
dimmed bones
(don't think it's a spoiler but just in case). Odd that there doesn't seem to be anything there? I'd have thought there would be some logs or something..

Edit: ok. That's cheeky but ok.

Hey guys, what are the best go to weapon types?

I'm like 15 to 20 hrs in with a standard bow and tripcaster.

The bows are the most versatile weapons available (War/Sharpshot/Hunter), Shadow is the best type that you can buy. I'd say in addition to that the Rope Caster is nigh essential for larger creatures like Thunderjaw and Stormbird unless you want to pour more resources into disabling them and eventually destroy them.

you'll have more success with the ropecaster if you use it on enemies suffering from status effects (burning, shocked or iced) or on downed enemies to keep them pinned down. use it on big beasts while they're mobile and they'll repel it

I believe certain Rope Casters fire a specific rope for tying down medium and large enemies. Could be wrong though.

Like other element arrow, you have to shoot enough to apply the "down" effect for ropecaster.

What skills should I level up first?

Can't go wrong really with filling out the entire top row. All very useful skills. Then personally I went down the Forager tree in order to get the Tinker skill which I think is one of the best skills in there. Make sure you really look at the skill tree lines though because the trees do not all go straight up and down.

Glad I had the focus to help me follow these tracks.

I generally give games/movies a pass when it comes to the language, nobody wants to listen to people blabbering on in a made up language for 30-40 hours.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be an insult, but you don't have to have focus activated to follow the trail. It's there for people who want/need to use it.

I'm level 18 and still using the sake carja bow from the beginning of the game, when do you start coming across better bows (more stats on them)

Better question, when can I start over riding more than just the horses?

The bigger and badder the enemy the more ropes you will have to hit it with to "bring it down". Some enemies like the Stormbird won't be able to fly away even with one rope, but it will require another 4 or 5 to make it crash to the ground.

There will be an animation for when the enemy is subdued, as well as a white ring timer counting down to tell you how long you got until it breaks free. Keep in mind hitting the enemy with any sort of attack greatly decreases the time you have while it is down. Generally you can get off 2 or 3 shots top.

Got the plat and finished up 100% completion last night and now I don't know what to do haha. I don't think I've ever played a game where I finished everything and still wanted to keep playing.

I guess I could hunt down missing datapoints, but I'll probably wait until someone puts up a more comprehensive list/map.

You can only ever ride Striders, Chargers, and Broadheads unfortunately. None of the other machines are mountable.

You can only mount horse-like machines and you acquire better weapons from merchants as you move westward through the world.

Yes but if I want to over ride a saw tooth to attack for me? Things like that?
She keeps making comments about "if I learn more about them I can over ride them. So I keep scanning them but nothing.

You have to sneak up on them or tie them down with the Ropecaster to override them I think.

Cuauldrons allow you to override other machines, you should have done the first one by that time.
You can only mount Striderd, Broadheads, and Chargers as other people said.

Sun Ring is kinda potentially wasted. I hope the next update they will add arena-type with prized loots.

Exactly what I thought when I first encountered this area. Could have some real Gladiator-esque moments.

For the sequel it would be awesome to have a multiplayer element similar to Dark Souls. Could have PVP (1v1, 2v2, 3v3) or PVE (2 of you versus a horde of machines)!

You have to
finish the cauldrons. Each one allows you to override more machines.

Hahaha, I was going to ask if you needed to get all the data points and glyphs to have 100% but reading your post I now know I don't. I'm 89.9% done with the game with 90 hours and I'm about to do "The Deep Secrets of the Earth". I honestly wanted to get all the data points and glyphs and just binge the lore. I'm impressed, this is the first Guerrilla game that successfully incorporates the backstory and lore into a great narrative, something they always lacked with Killzone.

You have to do the Cauldrons, each Cauldron will allow you to control more types of machines. I believe Sawtooths are in the first or 2nd Cauldron. I don't remeber the names of the Cauldrons that hold the individual creatures but there's Sigma, Rho, Xi and Zeta. There's probably a more comprehensive list on the web somewhere.

I went after as many datapoints as I could in the story missions but I still missed some apparently. And then there are TONS in the world that I haven't found that would be like looking for 50 needles in haystacks if I went after them right now lol. So glad they don't count towards 100% otherwise it'd take another 50 hours.

I wish the game had a latitude/longitude grid system, so it'd be easy to pinpoint exactly where things are. Oh well, something else to look forward to in the sequel.

The End. Just got the Platinum trophy. Of course my PS4 didn't take a screenshot of when I earned it for some reason. Playtime: 55 hours, 12 minutes.

I also hit 100% game completion as well. Seeing the Platinum trophy pop was incredibly sad since there is nothing left to do. Hopefully there will be some add on content announced for it. Either way, I will definitely load the game up whenever I get the itch to shoot down some robots. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if I start up a fresh game of it in a few months.

Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
Still playing
Up to 60 Hours
Reached
The Grave Hoard
mission

I had a though that for the sequel they should go a little more Transformers and go Combiners with there Robos

Thunderjaw + Stormbird combo = Thunderbird or Stormjaw lol

Just keep going crazy

Have a Behemoth call in like 4-5 Glinthawks and they transform to become a flying tank of force "Bahamut!"

Just being stupid here, but how awesome would that be lol

Agree but i prefer PVE. It makes sense. You gather up on Hunters Lodge as a hub then prepare your hunting and all set.

Where do I find these cauldrons, more importantly where do I find more fast travel packs, that looks like a real long ride back and I'm about to take the trek to meridian

Anybody else using treasure boxes as a mind of ad hoc extra inventory capacity? You can take specific items out that you might need and leave the rest there, and it doesn't seem to have a limit on how many you can carry

In Mother's Crown you get a side quest from a girl to do the first Cauldron, after that they'll be marked on the map but you won't get more quest so you'll have to go by yourself.

You can buy the unlimited travel pack in the Outpost Daytower that connects the sacred lands to the rest of the world.

Level 23 and just killed my first thunderjaw. This game is truly one of the best of the generation. So much fun.

I am at about 15 hours in, 30% and I have barely scratched the surface in Meridian.

Hey everyone, I made a little time-lapse montage. Tried to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, and also avoided certain areas because of merchant or campfire icons.

Horizon Zero Dawn - Time and Space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anCv_CObcaI

This is pretty good. Finally a proper time-lapse from gameplay instead of photomode. I can see the clouds moving now.

And I legit laughed at the fire bouncher guy doing his job all day long non-stop.

Just completed it.

And joining the Platinum Club.

Not taxing to get any of the trophies. All easily doable just obviously the play time to get them is near 60hrs. However naturally playing through it and doing the side missions and quests along the way means it's not troublesome.

Very impressed with the game after what I felt for me was a slow good first part of the game and took a little while to really click. But once it did it gripped me till the end.

I wanted more too but cannot wait for the sequel to be announced or if GG put together any story led DLC which would be nice.

9/10 and one of the best games of this gen so far. Amazing game that I had very few issues with. It just does most things really well and had a really nice openworld to explore and get lost in. Nothing to big or tedious that bogged it down and made it lose its charm. A lot and some of the main cast were great characters which helped tell a nice story. And of course graphically it was simply superb and at many a time so stunning to see. Loved it :)
