Flaw in Switch firmware draining GPU resources. Will be fixed, improving performance.

Would be a nice addition, though I doubt it will help Zelda docked mode since that issue seems more memory bandwidth restricted than GPU restricted.

I wouldn't get overly excited about this. It's a bug that creates some GPU overhead when using the dynamic resolution feature Shinen incorporates in Fast RMX, not necessarily something that impacts every game published on the system.

As I said in the FAST thread some early 3DS games saw improvements after a 3Ds firmware update so this isn't unprecedented.
Yeah. People claim otherwise, but Mirror of Fate was definitely smoother after that update

Jesus to the people thinking it's going to be a gamechanger.

It causes some fluctuation between 1080p and 900p in FAST RMX and was written that it was a slight issue. We're not going to see big performance gains, if anything noticeable at all.

"Bombshell", c'mon.
Bear in mind that a slight increase can mean the difference between 20 and 30 FPS in Zelda given its double buffered vsync.

If it makes the difference between 900-1080p in Fast it's not that outlandish of an assumption

Anyone claiming otherwise was an idiot, tonnes of games were better many noticeably

I'm expecting a very slight uptick in performance not something game changing.

Maybe make Zelda maintain 30fps in trouble areas

Definitely interested to see what impact this has on Zelda. I've played majority of that game casually on portable mode, and every time I go docked the framerate inconsistencies are immediately noticeable.

The docked mode issues need to be addressed. That's how I plan on playing the game.

I don't suppose there was any info about when this update might arrive? If it locks RMX at 1080 and potentially (hopefully) might tidy up zeldas fps even just a little it makes me feel like resisting playing until it arrives. I want to experience these games at their best.

Well that might explain what DF thought was probably a streaming issue with framerate in docked mode due to the odd times it would dip.

Nintendo should have done dynamic resolution for Zelda instead of making the frame rate drop. Word have preferred that.

No idea if that technically makes sense given the challenges they were facing.

I hope this improves the resolution of Zelda, the game just looks super ugly on my tv, almost like Wii levels :(

Yep, but I doubt it. At least they should fix the framerate.

I try not no play it on the TV for this reason alone. I start to pay too much attention to the low res, jagged picture than the game itself, too distracting for me.

Everyone should temper their expectations on how much this will improve, if at all, any games.

If it can make Zelda and FAST more stable, that'd be neat. The thing with the vSync in Zelda is that even the slightest dip in performance sends the game careening down to 20 FPS. So even a slight improvement should help with the edge cases, I think.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

I mean, we already know it will fix the resolution issue with FAST RMX.

I'm not sure i understand Dark's conclusion about this. Maybe Shin'en wording was different from how it was reported? Because a drain of GPU resources, if fixed, *can* *potentially* improve performances in games like Zelda.

So it sounds like this is related to the WiFi - and won't fix the heavy foliage area framerate drops in BOTW.

While some have pointed to this as being a problem with the console's power (or lack of it) we've been speaking to a third-party Switch developer - who chooses to remain anonymous - and they've informed us of a known issue with the console's Wi-Fi connection which places additional load on the processor.

JunkRabbit also confirms this is the case, and has discovered that since turning off the Wi-Fi auto-connect option in System Settings, the problems have vanished

You can also enable Flight Mode to disable the console's wireless connections. It's worth noting that Flight Mode doesn't work when you dock the Switch.

Our anonymous developer has confirmed that Nintendo is aware of the problem and that a fix will be included in a forthcoming firmware update.

I hope they fix my glitched RGB setting that's stuck on limited, I feel like I'm the only one with this issue though so it may never work right.
