NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

Whelp. I didn't think they would actually delete all my save data on ending E. And I did this after I accidentally skipped the final cutscene :(

Oh well what a ride that was. Hope someone out there appreciates the help I now provided them in their game.

They're rebuilt with their memories intact, presumably up to the end of the game. Well, for 2B, up to when she got stabbed by A2.

Is there a translation for the Japanese lyrics to Weight of the World? Someone in OT mentioned it a long time ago, but I can't find it now.

I CANT FUCKING STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS GODDAMN GAME

Tell me about it, it's probably the only game were i got my save wiped, lost 22 hours of progress and immediately restarted from a previous save.

You were not the only one bro. I'm sure someone out there will appreciate our hours of hard work we had to sacrifice to help them get through the credits.

Kudos to the people that actually beat the credits legit.

Fuck Square-Enix Co. Ltd., Character Development, Marketing Division, and Online Business Whatever. You're all evil.

Done with Zelda, and almost done with Horizon
It's time to come back and 100% this masterpiece ( and say goodbye to my save )
Still my Goty by a wide margin

What are the requirements to fight Emil anyway?

All weapons upgraded to the max. Also, need to pillage his home.

It's possible?!

Also regarding Ending Y and Emil. A big shoutout to Julie Ann Taylor for reprising the role but also her emotional delivery during the secret fight was heartbreaking. Kudos.

I CANT FUCKING STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS GODDAMN GAME

Objectively I think Breath of the Wild is a better game and I'm pretty sure I liked it more than Nier Automata, but I sure as hell ain't thinking about it as much as I'm still thinking about Automata. Yoko Taro really managed to break through that "things that are and aren't possible in games" barrier that he's talked about for years now. Go watch his GDC presentation from a few years ago if you don't know what I'm talking about, but I think Automata more than any other previous Yoko Taro game really pushed out toward the "unknown" portion of this graph.

Same here. It's insane, so happy we got this thread and the OT to discuss.

Game is one of the best I've played in years.

I really liked it as well. 2017 has been amazing. Persona 5 has been giving me those "this is one of the best games i've ever played, ever "butterflies". I'd rank NieR behind, or ahead Yakuza 0 as 2nd best experience i've had this gen. Gotta think on this one more after such a powerful experience.

Probably because Taro knows how to abuse the video game medium to tell a story. And he's probably the only one who does it this well. It helps that he focuses on interesting questions that relate to the human essence.

It sounds weird coming from me since this is my first Taro game, but Automata definitely left me with a good impression on his style and I look forward to any other games he may be working on. Uh, aside from the mobile games. Fuck that noise.

Yoko Taro: Very cute! I believe she’ll sell well!!

Also seeing that GDC picture, I believe he really did that. I just sat in post depression. What did I play. What is the meaning of life. Mindblown.

Yeah I remember seeing that presentation.

His games have always left me with thoughts lingering long after but never like this.

Try to play the others if you can find the time.

Especially Drakengard 1.

While it's definitely the worst game he's made, it's a prove to how car he's willing to go. Many things were intentionally designed to be frustrating, unrewarding and unfun which takes guts, especially considering that it was his very first game

I second this.

Also if you really wanna get into the lore, reading all the supplemental stuff wouldn't hurt either

Few game soundtracks come close to the music in Drakengard 1 for me. And this is coming from someone who's only played a little of that game, though I've been meaning to play through it in full. I'd love to see Taro revisit the abrasive delirium that D1's soundtrack manages to evoke.

Didn't care for the story as much as Nier or Drakengard 3 and I still can't get it out of my head. Shows Taro's power.

Wendee Lee deserves a reward as the voice director for this. Phenomenal dub, and she did OG Nier to, she NEEDS to be a part of the next Nier game

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
finished ending C...damn that's some rough stuff...

i assume the choice at the end doesn't really matter much

Now i get a chapter select? Sweet

I would argue that Drakengard 1 and Nier did a better job of pushing at that invisible wall, since the former deliberately flaunts "good" design to create a certain experience, and Nier had an entire zone that eschewed "gameplay" for text adventures, and it challenges gaming/storytelling conceits more heavily in ways that only games can.

Not to rag on Automata, though. It still does things like that, and it's no less Taro-like than any of his other games. It just focuses more on its core message and challenging the expectations set by his own games.

Finished it last night. Not at all how I expected it to go down but it was amazing never the less. You don't see a lot of stories ending on the optimistic note that life is essentially meaningless. I thought ending E was the perfect send up in that way and how great of a feeling it was to have others by your side helping you through the final credits with that music and all. Fucking brilliant.

One thing I was very disappointed by however was of the underuse of A2. She clearly had so much more going on about her that the main story barely goes into. You do get her backstory and more of her personality in side stuff but there was so much wasted potential I thought. I would pay a high price for DLC or anything else starring her.

Devola and Popola's story was the most heartbreaking for me. They didn't deserve that shit, man.

One thing I'm confused about though. Prior to the reveal of 2B's true designation as 2E at the end, I thought 2B was secretly the same model as A2. Is that still the case or were all of those hints just red herrings?

IIRC one of the archive files explains this. A2 is basically the prototype for the type E androids. Even though during initial tests she scored pretty bad when it came to real battle she exceeded their expectations. So they used her data for the next generation which is the E series.

I think there must be some similarities, since when you meet Anemone for the first time she says, "Number 2?"

Ok, so pretty much the same model just repurposed for a different role. Makes it funny to think that YoRHa is too lazy or cheap to change the design even with A2 still running around.

One of the moments in the game that hit me the most was after I wiped Pascal's memory. Seeing him back in his village selling machine parts from the villagers, even the children's cores.

Jesus...

As much as I enjoyed NieR, and Automata, Drakengard has Taro's best work IMO. Endings B, D, E are unforgettable.

Oh just stuff I found lying around. I have no idea what it's even for!

I had more feels for Operator 60, Operator 210, and Pascal over the main characters. It was just sad shit.

Yeah it's absolute key that you do the sidequests for 60/21 and the village to get to this point. The 210 battle was absolutely excruciating. It was at this point that I realized the Machines were really bastards for fucking with 9S in this manner.
