so many of the side quests ending leaves bad taste in my mouth... damn..

Sadness and melancholy is just how Nier is, same in the original.

Whereas Drakengard is a bunch of unsympathetic assholes being assholes as hard as they possibly can so the bad taste is having to play as them at all.

Reading over the Art Book. It seems the commanders name is White and she had a relationship of sorts with Jackass. They exchanged information and Jackass even knew about the Type-E project.

Oh damn, I wish this stuff was in-game. I wonder what Jackass would have thought of the Commander's demise post-Route C.

Commander Message to Jackass:

"Jackass,

I received a report regarding your behavior from the Resistance camp leader. Even if I choose to ignore the unauthorized "upgrades" you've been performing on your fellow Resistance members, combining two separate androids into a single unit is taking things too far. Just because I'm not there anymore doesn't give you free license to do whatever you please. Pull yourself together ASAP before you wind up getting exiled, you hear?

As far as things over here go, work at the Bunker has been smooth, for the most part. I figured the role of Commander would mostly consist of stamping documents and the like, but i'm surprised by the amount of miscellaneous tasks I'm expected to perform. I definitely have concerns about the Type-E deployment project, though. Still, all I can do is keep trying my best.

I truly believe that the work i'm doing here will help carve a path for the future of all androids. So I expect you in turn to do some growing up before the next time we meet, okay?

White"

Jackass Response:

"She was the most earnest person you've ever met.
Hell, downright stiff in some ways.
And yet, you couldn't find a kinder soul if you tried.

It's not fair that I live while she had to die.
This world is just so....wrong.
Humans? Machines? Androids?
We're all goddamn worthless.

Anyway, I imagine I'll be joining you soon enough.
Rest in peace until then, okay?

Jackass."

She does mention it somewhere I think if you find her after the bunker went down. Or maybe in her archive data.

It's actually in there. Here's what it says:

I'll write up White's post here. May take a few minutes.

Jackass is truly best girl. At last my eyes are open.

One thing I was very disappointed by however was of the underuse of A2. She clearly had so much more going on about her that the main story barely goes into. You do get her backstory and more of her personality in side stuff but there was so much wasted potential I thought. I would pay a high price for DLC or anything else starring her.
Yeah I agree. Loved the game overall but I really feel like A2 needed a bit more screen time. Maybe her backstory could've been playable instead of being relegated into a novella.

By the way, what was the reason for A2 cutting her hair? I didn't quite understand that.

I also read a post on gamefaqs from user Adrien Light interpreting Ending E that I quite liked, so I thought I'd share it here as well:

"I deleted my data, no backup, because I felt backing my data up would defeat the purpose of sacrifice. Someone helped me to see the complete game, and I wanted to be able to help someone else, regardless of what was needed. Now I'm playing through the game again to platinum everything, and I don't regret my choice at all. I was very jaded towards humanity near the end of the game. I kept wondering, "Why do all of these androids and machines want to be human? They're already displaying all the signs of humanity. They are vengeful, destructive, easily overcome by emotions. They wage pointless wars over territory for their superiors." But then, during the ending, when I realized what someone else had to do for me, I realized, this is what they were aspiring to be. According to the Nier universe, the entirety of humanity fell because the original gestalt accepted death because of his love for his sister/daughter. We are capable of horrible things, but also capable of great love and altruism, and it's that amazing dichotomy that both sides wished to understand and ultimately attain. If the primary game and endings made me lose my faith in humanity, ending E was what restored it, and reminded me of how kind we can be to complete strangers. I cried a lot after the ending."

She absorbed what would be considered 2B's soul in this game through her sword. That essentially slowly softened her personality throughout her campaign and why she cares so much about protecting 9S.

Before she was just angry and bitter and just killed as many robots as she could.

I feel like A2's development from where she started as a bitter and cold rogue, to where she ended up was really great, but i wish she had a full sized campaign like 9S and 2B instead of being relegated to only part of one for ending C

I wanted to see that development for her extended. The concept is so interesting. She's basically half 2B and half herself and she can't even tell the difference by the end where one stops and the other begins.

The most excruciating part of route C was that she knew everything about 9s and 2B, hell she WAS 2B in a snse, yet all 9S could think about was killing her based on a pure misunderstanding and his own anger and hatred at how he lost 2B

Kinda strange she has her long hair again in the ending that is unless the Pods found other A units, but they were wiped out.

i'm just assuming that they did find other A units somewhere, cause there's no explanation otherwise for her having a new body exactly the same as her old one lmao.

I also has a lot of questions in regards to ending E. it seems happy, but what is the state of 2B and A2? They mind melded after all and im pretty sure there's no going back from that.

Pretty much 2B's memories would have to be a copy of her memories up to the point of her getting killed with A2 still holding the real 2B inside of her

What I'm wondering now is who came up with Project YoRHa, since even the Commander didn't have full knowledge of it. There must be or must have been an android even higher in the food chain.

Also, what about 9S if you choose to send his memories with the machine ark to the moon? If you did Ending E afterwards, wouldn't he be the only one without his memories?

Ending E is the only Canon one, so if the moon thing even happened, based on what the Pods say, he would have his. However, it would be fitting and ironic if he didn't.

Okay, thanks.

A bit disappointing that they didn't put in Accord from Drakengard 3 btw, after she was mentioned at the beginning by the weapons trader.

Edit:

By the way, the Earth isn't rotating anymore in the game right? At least it's always sunny, and in a side quest it was said that it's always bright outside now.

How would that work? The planet would go to shit pretty fast if it wasn't rotating anymore.

Or just Taros excuse to not implement a day-night cycle? :p

Im glad they just mentioned Accord and didn't show her. As i said earlier i actually missed this until someone said so.

Im curious if we will get a crossover game, like fully. Since 2B, A2, and 9S are alive there can be some timeline fuckery and Drakengard can come into Nier or maybe they go into Drakengard.

I'd definitely be down for a well executed Drakengard. Platinum has some experience now with programming dragons after all :p

yeah D4 would be most welcome as well. In the OT someone put that apparently they would consider a remaster package of Nier and Drakengard if there was enough demand. I need it.

But damn.... that's cold lol

We could also use Drakengard 1.3 in game form

Honestly, if we do get post ending E dlc for whatever reason (since I see people requesting it both here and on other sites, although it'll likely never happen, especially with that PAX presentation), I imagine putting the focus on A2 might be the best approach here, since they could potentially rectify these issues with lack of screen time and development. 2B and 9S would be very difficult to have post ending E dlc for and not have it feel forced, particularly since I feel the story did everything it needed to with those 2, while I feel A2 could have used more screen time and development. Besides, it's pretty easy to imagine that as long as 2B and 9S are together, they'll be happy, with that being their happy ending. A2 is an enigma though, there's no telling what could happen with her, and one could probably explore some pretty interesting things with her post ending E.

Persona 5 already loses in my mind because of the whole "choose your waifu" thing it's been sporting for x number of games. Not to say I still won't enjoy the game, though.

Saying that Persona 5 is a game about choosing a waifu is about as true as the statement that NieR:Automata is game about exploding skirts and butt fanservice. It's there, but it's certainly not the meat of the game and can be completely avoided if you don't want to do it.

I loved that they used Accord as a way to explain how all these weapons from different games keep showing up lol

Does it count for an ending when you go away instead of using your MECH with 9s at the beginning of the second playthrough?

I'm not saying that it is, but the fact that it even exists just brings it down for me. It adds a level of superficiality to the dynamic between the characters and it isn't to my liking. It's the reason why I wasn't so fond of Rean or Falcom's pathetic attempt to copy Persona's social link system in Cold Steel.

I think that comparison is pretty disingenuous, that being said. Fanservice isn't the reason why I dislike the social link system in the first place.

For the record, this is all just story/character related complaints on my part. I'm sure gameplay and other things will be fantastic.

I can kinda see where you're coming from and I still disagree with it, but this isn't really the place to discuss this anyway.

Random thought, but has anyone hacked and taken control of the one normal robot in the zombified amusement park to see what happens?

yep. It's kinda hilarious. Only bad part is that you have to do the robot oil-blood thing again

That part sort of got me.

That Robot cared for what he called his brother. Desperately tries to save him with oil, trips over when he jumps or when he hops over a beam. Those guys have feelings. I was sort of expecting 9S to jump in and strike him but he let him do his thing. Same with the kingdom, they seem to be completely innocent, just wanting to install a monarchy and try to continue it but not realizing they can't grow up. The themes in this game are actually incredible.

Granted, I was annoyed when I had to do it again as I triggered that ending on accident right away.

I also triggered one in Route C, after the fight alongside the units in the crater. I had to do all the stealth hacking stuff with 9S again, lol.

So the game wants me to delete my save, but.... I'm good lol

I'll definitely do it after I do the sidequests, beat the secret bosses, etc., so don't judge me too hard lmao

Easily one of the best games I've ever played. And I won't lie, it just makes that whole thread discussing 2B's design and what not seem immensely more trivial to me now, even despite me understanding the concerns.

Okabe just confirmed on Stream that the choir singing in Ending E is the entire development team behind the game. Awesome.

Oh shit....

Yeah it's absolute key that you do the sidequests for 60/21 and the village to get to this point. The 210 battle was absolutely excruciating. It was at this point that I realized the Machines were really bastards for fucking with 9S in this manner.

Yea I really wish I had done more of them. Mad I missed out on the 210 one, 9S fighting her didn't have as much of an emotional impact on me as a result.

Ok, got ending E last night and now I'm all caught up with this thread. I've got a few questions that I can't figure out myself.

Where did the logic virus come from exactly? Was it made by Eve in a homicidal rage or by the terminal girl/machine network consciousness? Is the virus that infected YoRHa the same one that is turning machines into red-eyes? If so, why was the virus made to infect machines as well as androids? If not, who made the other virus?

Why was A2 spared from the virus? Even 9S with his hacking managed to become infected. A2 takes no precautions and is just fine. I know she hadn't synched up to the YoRHa server in forever, but the virus spreads through personal contact as well, considering how 2B got it. A2 fought plenty of infected machines.

Is the tower part of the cycle as well? We learn it's there to send an arc out, but does that happen every time or is this new?

Why were the machines so hell-bent on destroying Pascal's robot kids? For that matter, how did the machine village become infected if they were off the network?

Logic Virus has existed since forever, or at least it was there during the Pearl Harbor incident. Seems to be a creation of the machines/Terminal to combat the androids. I don't think them going red eye is related as the androids getting infected. Remember the machines are all networked.

Meanwhile, I imagine it might have been some big farce from the Terminal to let these machines disconnect and be peaceful. Remember, they intentionally let them leave the network with these "flaws". They also wanted to keep the androids around to keep perpetuating their own reason to live and evolve.

It was all the terminal's fault who was represented by the girl in the red dress. However what confuses me is ending Y..

In ending C and D, we have the implication that the what was left of the terminal and the arc itself launches into space to find a new place to live after comprehending the meaning of life and destroying itself, and supposedly same with ending E, so no thread of the war going on anymore.

So why exactly does the network somehow get rebuilt hundreds of years later if you do ending Y if the robots are already gone?

Im in and out of here quick cause I haven't finished yet. Im glad I took a chance onthis game because its amazing. One question, when you retreave a dead player and you get those stat boosts, are they permanent? Thanks.

No you should see a plug in chip appear above your health bar when you retrieve someones body, it only stays for a little while.

Haha instead of playing minesweeper in the spoiler thread why not use the OT?

Does the girl in the red dress appear in Drakengard?

I bought it recently to experience the Shinjuku ending for myself but the gameplay is ATROCIOUS and I dunno if i can make it through...

NierAutomata-11.jpg

Did this scene actually happen? I don't recall it, unless it's sidequest related or something.

Seeing as how 9S has two weapons, 2B has one, and they're both rocking the Beast I'm going to say this is shopped

don't think so.

it ain't worth it.

Yeah, I'm glad I got it cheap and I had already heard it was bad but cot damn I wasn't ready for that. It is literally a miracle they kept funding the series

Why did you buy it? Lmao, YT games are not for everyone for a reason. I don't recommend any casual curious person to buy D1 or D3 as a pure masochist myself. Nier 1 is an iffy prospect but before Automata was easily the most accessible game in the franchise by far. Even back in 6th gen the games were jank standard.

You literally don't understand how good it was that YT had fans at Platinum, this is why we were all celebrating. Cavia bless their hearts and Access games clearly could not make a game YT wanted.

He always says he spent most of his time yelling when working with Cavia, and i'd expect the same for Access games even moreso considering that was only 3 or so years ago. They spent all their budget on the cutscenes for that D3 alone

By the way, the girl in the red dress is represented by the Terminal, she is new to this game

I wanted to see the stuff I'd only read about in it's true form, but that gameplay is rough even by PS1 standards let alone 2. Nier Replicant is in another dimension by comparison
