This is the worst downgrade. :p
oof

they should've kept the PC version up to spec if possible. it's a shame if the PC version met the target render but had to be watered down to be closer or even match the console versions.

Both of those characters faces look derpy as hell. Almost looks like their eyes are off center or something. They're really off putting and awkward looking.

I mean this is down to CDPR going the extra mile and handcrafting a shit ton of the conversations after using procedurally generated animation as a starting point, and ofc their models are just wow, this is better screen of a random npc

CDPR was and still remains next level. Still I think ME:A based on the footage today and Shinobi's screenshots.

CDPR absolutely ate Bioware's lunch and then crapped in their fridge.

It was understandable that DA:I looked bad compared to TW3, but it's pretty pathetic that CDPR's opus makes Andromeda look like a B-Game two years later (and I'm a big ME fan).

The character faces are what's ruining the game for me. I wonder if they can patch better character models in. Hoping its in the day one patch. Seriously its 2017, character models in video games have come such a long way. This seems like a backwards step.

Who's to say they could run the target render on PC?

We've been there before...

A target render isn't a game.

WTF. The derpy model and face animation make this end up looking like a puppet from a 90's TV show. Her eyes are darting around like a frog has taken over her brain and her mouth moves like it's independent from the rest of her face. Overall it looks pretty awful. To the purpose of the thread though, this isn't what I'd call a downgrade, but damn those are some bad animations and faces.

Edit : Oh, and I always hated PeeBee's face before anyway.

I mean some games are just ahead of their time in terms of visuals and presentation. Let's take a step back and remember that ME:A isn't in anyway shape or form a bad looking game. Like, let's not forget some of the stuff they're doing, like using facial capture, which looks WAY ahead of the procedurally generated animation they use for most conversations so we get little things like this:
^
we're getting nuance like this on a custom character which is crazy all things considered.

And it's absolutely a great looking game:

Just that some aspects falter, and hell, some of that may be because the characters look incredibly good but don't move as naturalistically due to the constraints needed to make an RPG with this scale.

Gotta agree with this. We are, without a doubt, leaps and bounds ahead of where we were graphically compared to this time in the last console cycle. However, over the last couple of years there has been a much larger emphasis on actor performance and adding "life" to character models.

I'm no aplogist. I honestly feel like this comes down to art style preference, rather than a technical downgrade.

The original pics are essentially the tried and true clip the blacks for juiced contrast, and then grade everything blue and red.

The new pics have much better, more natural lighting. While the background may appear less complex, the light sources cast much more naturally. And the background appears more like a practical structure. Rather than paired back for frame rate or something.

And we have overall better color variety and obvious care taken with clothing.

That's just based on the pics. I will have to review actual footage, later.

Oh come on Eden don't do this to me! You're making me want to play The Witcher 3! I don't have enough time to add that in but all the screenshots look sooooo good.

Holy crap....she's the original model??? She's so pretty!

....what happened?

From everything I've seen so far, I think the game looks great.

I might have to stay off this site for awhile after launch. No matter how it fares, you guys will be picking it apart frame by frame.

Truth. CDPR set one hell of a bar. Not gonna give other AAA games a break for not vaulting it, however.

I think the weird looking character models make the downgrade appear worse? Idk, not really a big fan of the design of some of the new alien races and main cast of characters. That being said, I'll probably stick with the default character model. The character creator makes your created character stick out and look like one of the non important NPC's from the game. At least you can have fun with it and make some weird looking characters.

I feel like ME:A accomplishes this to a degree during a good amount of scenes.

Omg YES, so much better. Just that one thing.
Am I the only one who thinks she looks stoned as shit with those eyes?

I was watching some gameplay, and uh...does the game use gaussian blur now? It has this effect around characters and objects that make me think it does, and it doesn't seem to have any bokeh with light sources. Please tell me I'm wrong.

It's 2017 and Bioware still can't make appealing faces.

Mass Effect 2 had some really good ones and some terrible ones. By ME3 a running joke was that random NPCs (especially Asari) had better faces that some of the main characters, but in Andromeda it really feels like most are pretty bad.

They made a model you are less likely to fap to. The graphics are unchanged though they're using way more chromatic aberration in the ME shot.
Thankfully the console values allow you to turn this off.

GSG Flash

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
The latest version of the Asari looks better than the reveal version.

The main female just looks hideous in general, graphical downgrade or not.

The stasis chamber looks better in the reveal.

The dialogue and animations look like hot garbage from what I've watched on twitch streams over the last two hours but the gameplay is solid I'll give them that, enjoyed hours with the original multiplayer so better gameplay is a win.

Damn, that RPS preview is brutal

Yeah I almost refunded when I read that article, it's fcking savage.

Really tired of people taking cherry picked pictures, come on now you're comparing a press screen with a cherry picked screenshot:

Fem Ryder's face model is fine, it's the animation that's the issue, not the models themselves for the main cast.

Now this one has bokeh depth of field. I'm so confused.

She looks like the girl from Glee. Forgot her name. I'm not really digging the graphics, or animations. Hopefully the story is good.
