The character presets just look... weird.

Meanwhile over in the multiplayer.

Just to chime, this one is another poor animation. It's even worse in context and full-speed. Very Early Spoilers,
shortly after waking up, there is a quaking disturbance on the ship. Immediately after being asked if they're fine, Ryder asks "What happened?" this is when the expression is quickly displayed almost before he even asks the question.
It's the timing that makes it more poorly paced than anything else, but the overwrought look of impression (for no reason) from neutral is what makes it look "off".

I suppose it's better than the Noot Noot mouth.

Haven't been following this game really at all. Are these animations just bioware bioware'n, or should we be concerned for the quality of this game? Little bit of colum a and b?

Well, the same engine with finished, finalized, released in-game stuff still gave us these:

I see no reason Kojima won't work similar magic, given his pedigree.

Yeah. Until Dawn isn't a particularly long game and has a tiny cast.

Conversely Horizon is pretty damn great, but they failed so hard on the lip sync. The lips have a really great rig that allows them for the naturalistic motion, but I have no idea what prevented the sounds from coming out at the right times.

Certainly, it is possible and even probable that these issues will be fixed in DS, but I personally wouldn't make judgements until there is a game there to show.

Giant Bomb, Gamespot and PC gamer were pretty lukewarm about the game. We will see on Monday with the reviews.

Bioware's animations have never been top tier, but this is the lowest their bar has ever been set.

I'm a little worried...not enough to not buy the game, but my hype has been reigned in significantly.

I am so glad I opened this thread. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.

God Mass Effect produces some of the best unintentionally hilarious content.

Goddammit, Bioware animations and character design was already pretty dated, this somehow looks worse than previous games. I'm a fan of Bioware but I'm tired of them being cheap bastards.

Is the multiplayer made by character creator? They looks great. I think I'll try to make my character look more like them.

They seem to be done with the same presets but why they chose to make the faces look really good for multiplayer and not for single player, who knows.

Oh goddamn this thread is destroying me. I can't stop laughing.

Maaaaan do these animations looks bad.

Kinda reminds me of this one. Kinda.

I think at the end of the todday there's probably a lot of hilarious Wrestling Gifs that look exactly like Mass Effect animations.

I picked up on the eye problem very early on. I did some minor tweaks, and even then I'd still shrink the pupils a little.

It's the same damn problem that affected films like The Polar Express.

If you can't get the eyes right, the rest falls apart.

Games like Horizon and Until Dawn have really raised the bar on believable eyes this gen.

I think it's more than the eyes. If your gonna go for that uncanny look of facial animation your characters cannot do anything that makes them look sub-human. Eye twitching, shaky legs, random spasms, etc. It all just make characters look like robots trying to imitate humans. And also not have them over exaggerate facial movements. Humans aren't cartoons. Subtlety is a lot more convincing.

Death Stranding already surpassed it.

I would wait till we actually see the game and get some hands on impressions to make any judgements about the face models in that game. Not to say they will look bad, but kind of early to actually make any sort of conclusions about the games graphics when only having seen highly curated cut scenes.

You guys actually stumbled on a huge spoiler: Ryder is indoctrinated and all these glitches are actually put in intentionally to drive the player mad. It's fourth-wall breaking indoctrination! Bioware played us like fiddles.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order as I'd really like to see what the day 1 patch does (if they even release one). Seeing way too much jank and coming fresh off Horizon ZD, I may wait a bit on this one.

That Kotaku article was too tactically written for my liking.

tl:dr It has some poor animations but it didn't affect my experience playing the game.

bullshit

Watching the GiantBomb stream right now. The dead eyes and janky animations are so bad. I don't recall Mass Effect 2 (only one I've played) having this problem.

yeah i felt like the Kotaku article was a little too generous, reading a bit too much damage control like "yeah this is funny but nothing to see here!! no really it doesn't detract too much from the game *nervous laughter*"

Well I mean it is possible.

Fallout: New Vegas has terrible animations and ridiculous amounts of jank and it's still one of my favourite games of all time. I can see how these animations wouldn't take away someone's enjoyment of the game. It probably won't take away mine
