Wait... hold on.

This has to be live action, right?

If this is CGI I'm dead. How the fuck are people on the page you posted this saying this looks bad? WTF? That would be some of the greatest CGI I've ever seen. Am I being trolled?

The hairline/hair in general gives it all away completely. It's like whoever did the hair didn't understand what a hairline was.

The eyes in this game are creepy as fuck.

Also why does the female main character have that daft, dopey looking smug grin on her face all the time?

You know I wasn't gonna buy this game, but I absolutely love these awful animations. And I think Sara is kind of cute because of her dorkiness. I might buy this game now lol.

There's still plenty to like about the game

Wait for reviews to see if it feels like Mass Effect despite the flaws. I think that will be the decisive factor.

the animator just had to make her blink at least once in that scene and it would have been semi okay.

Yeah it's not one of the most terrible sequences, but she also needed to look more pissed off right at the end IMO to get the right feels. She just had a gun pointed at her. Unless its a good friend of her's doing it that she doesn't really want to hurt.

Maybe more squinty eyes would do the trick

Damn, I remember when people were saying that Mass Effect Andromeda will be even better than Dragon Age Inquisition in visual presentation, because it no longer will be tied down by 360/PS3 hardware.

And now I just kind of wish it was on par with DA:I.

Remember the E3 2006 demo? When they said stuff like "Mass Effect sets the bar for next generation digital characters". That demo was impressive as hell back then. Now they have stuff that's almost Oblivion level bad. Amazing.

It is CGI and while technically very good it's also creepy Uncanny Valley as fuck.

That's the worst CG I've ever seen.

That was one of the realest CG i have seen yet when i saw that years ago, thought it was from a WW 2 or vintage/mafia movie at first lol. Anyway when i found out it was fake i realised it, it always looked kinda off and unatural/spooky.

I just want to know where it all went wrong? Dragon Age Inquisition had decent and believable facial and motion animations. ME:A feels completely out of place and broken. Did they run out of time and just sent whatever they had a few weeks before release? I am a big Mass Effect fan, and I was really looking forward to this. I have a pre-order on Amazon and I have never pre-ordered a game in a while. I think at this point I might just cancel and see what happens. What do you think guys?

New developer. As far as I know this is the first full game developed by Bioware Montreal. Previous games were developed by original Bioware in Edmonton.

Well, back then they had a vision and leadership. This is a hand me down game by the C team.

Idk about that, I think next to the eyes darting all over the place the blinking is one of the biggest things that throws me off. People blink differently when they're consciously doing it and I feel like every character has that look in this.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
There was always something weird about this project, the marketing was so reserved that it seemed like they were afraid to show anything from the game. Now we know why.

Still doesn't make sense to me though. How does one of EA and Bioware's biggest games get released in this state? not just the buggy parts either. All of the footage I've seen the faces lookfucked up

The thing that gets me the most is that she has this dopey almost-smile after disarming him. It's the same look she has when telling the captain her father is dead. It doesn't help that the dialogue is the most clichéd thing ever "Drop it!" "You first" and the whole cutscene looks lame when they probably thought Ryder would look badass.

It gets released in this state because they don't want to spend anymore money on it, clearly the team behind Andromeda are not capable of delivering a quality product.

EA have decided that it's better to just gobble up that pre-order money before the financial year ends and let nature take it course. It's hardly the first time a big company has shat out a half-baked game. KOTOR2, Sonic 2006, Driver 3, AC Unity, etc. At the end of the day they want your money more than anything else.

Sigh. I really wonder what went wrong here with this game's development. Mass Effect was one of my favourite games of the previous generation.

The gifs are hilarious. Holy shit.

The weirdest thing about the faces is the total lack of eye reflection. Even the original trilogy on PS360 got this right; the animation in the old games looks relatively robotic by today's standards, but the eyes still have life in them.

Every single human in Andromeda has these weirdly overdefined eyes with zero lighting interacting with them. You can see everyone's irises and pupils in excruciating detail in a way you just do not see in real life, as if they're wooden orbs with details painted on. Adding better specular effects to the eyes would on its own be a massive improvement for this game, even if the animations stayed just as stiff. It's just so off-putting being able to see everyone's eyes like this.

EDIT:

This gif going around illustrates this perfectly. Just like how the relative darkness in Ashley's scene on the right sort of hides the distinction between iris and pupil, the bright lighting in the scene on the left should be blowing out some of the detail. The eyes should have shine.

I quickly/horribly shoved Aloy's larger iris/smaller pupil eyes over the existing pale irises and wandering pupils:

My thoughts as well. First reveal was some behind the scenes footage at e3 in 2014. Then the first game play reveal was at an Nvidia conferance.

In fact the Nvidia conferance was weird because they were treating it like a tech demo despite it being the first actual gameplay footage.

This game had a strange run up to launch.

Going to be interesting to see how much damage this does to the IP and Bioware's reputation. Mass Effect is (was?) at titan of a franchise.

Let's not pretend that the franchise wasn't already damaged by Mass Effect 3. That's probably part of the reason why they outsourced Andromeda in the first place while the real BioWare worked on a new IP.
