The thing I learned from the ZTD watch mess was that Amazon will blame the publisher and the publisher will blame Amazon and the customer loses.

Unless you're actively licking the damn thing or taking an angle grinder to it and breathing deeply, it wouldn't affect you in any way, shape or form.

Lead isn't toxic to the touch like mercury, it's only dangerous when ingested.

I'm one of those people who smells my new games and hardware (and books), so...

Which will really suck, because who the hell that is making the steelbook cases is fucking up that badly?

Yea, I'm wondering about that too. Atlus never had issues with previous steelbooks. Not sure what happened. Hopefully they clear things up soon cuz all these cancellations are massive.

They specify Amazon, so I'm thinking it's specific to them.

Exactly. And it will continue the trend of Atlus having egg on their face from the various failings and problems this game has had since it's English announcement.

What about lead paint? Would that because a house could be covered in it so you would be breathing it in to some degree? There was a local story on people getting ill and that was the reason. Not that it's the same scale as a small game, but I doubt they were eating the walls.

If it is lead related then it would be the paint on the case instead of the case itself. Judging by the amount of white paint on the case that could be the reason. Lead is a cheap way to get white paint that is very durable.

Any ingestion of lead is bad. Skin is pretty good at keeping it out but if you inhale it or ingest it the buildup in your system is actually pretty quick. Also doesn't help that lead paint has a sweet taste to it.

yeah I dont trust amazon for anything preorder related, always use best buy GCU 20% off instead and in store pickup since store is nearby (and get it quicker than it would arrive in the day with shipping)

Price seems quite reasonable for the contents, plus it has an artbook which is usually mandatory for me to buy one.

Didnt expect game out so soon after Mass Effect Andromeda, so my face may be too tired to play it.

I honestly don't care if there's lead or not

The risk of getting cancer is worth it. Just give me the goddamn game

Lead paint is different because small, sometimes unseeable pieces of paint will flake off as time goes by, and if breathed in, would accumulate overtime and contribute to lead poisoning. There's a reason we don't use lead based paints anymore, it's the same reason we don't use leaded gasoline. Inhalation of lead particles will eventually lead to lead poisoning/cancer.

Solid lead however is perfectly safe, in fact, it's used frequently as a radiation shield...and that's shit that WILL kill you if it touches you.

That's sort of what I figured. Of course, even for a game I get why they would want to take pre-cautions if it's an issue. (Need to use factories with a bit more integrity... cheap isn't good if costs come from recalls etc.)

Mine's still up for the moment. Canada, June 29...right when I cancelled my e3-discounted vanilla edition pre-order...so that's awesome. :/

Hi NeoGAF! It's Will from ATLUS. If you didn't know, I've taken over John's job for the time being. To give you an update on what's going on, we're currently looking into this issue with Amazon and I'll follow up when we have more info.

I wonder what's the "defect" mentioned.

It shipped with a "Persona 4 Best Waifu" sticker featuring Yukiko. They need to round them up and burn them.

My take your heard ed. order is still open. I hope they get this sorted out soon.

Like, it's honestly hilarious that Atlus is that goddamn tonedeaf to announce a skin for regular, physical copies of the game and have the fans do the run around to figure out whether or not their Steelbook or TYH editions got shit-canned.

Are you able to confirm or deny at this point that it's an issue with Amazon only, or could it be for more outlets?

Thank you for the response! Hoping it's just a computer glitch, I'd love to have my order on Amazon go through like planned.

Is it really an issue with a toxic material or did Amazon just oversell? I'm genuinely curious at this point.

Looking forward to the update as well. If it is a defect issue why cancel the orders?

Since there seem to be only a very small number of cancellations and the amazon CS replies (which you should never trust 100%) seem inconsistent and strange (defect? tocix? reported by a customer?), I wouldn't jump to any conclusions that this is an actual widespread issue..

This seems to me like a case of amazon being weird

I mean, people were sticking Switch cartridges in their mouths, so... :p

Good to hear this is being investigated. I gotta say, though, any CSR response mentioning toxic substances is...alarming, to say the least.

I almost had a heart attack. Earlier this month I got credit from Amazon Mexico because they decided to cancel my preorder of P5 as well, but I did made another preorder from Amazon US back in July 2016 so I thought I was safe. I haven't received any e-mails yet regarding this issue. I wonder if they're cancelling the most recent preorders.

If they cancel it again I'll have to check other online stores. This is kinda disappointing.

Just preordered the standard edition on Amazon just in case my TYH edition gets cancelled.

Ain't nothing stopping me from playing this game April 4th lol

Or improperly disposed of, which if we're talking about the packaging of a commercial good is inevitable. So let's not go crazy with 'it wouldn't affect you in any way, shape or form.' business.

Not that there's any credibility to the idea of lead in the steelbook casting.

Panic begets panic.

First you kill John, now you cancel the game. I'm watching you, Will.

Why would the steelbook contain lead? And how would amazon detect that?

You really shouldn't believe everything amazon CS says.

Somebody at Amazon licked the case. How'd you think people first found out the Nintendo Switch cartridges taste disgusting?
Just couldn't resist that case.. Not sure if I could either.

Hadn't even thought about that, but you're right. If it were thrown in a landfill willy nilly it could seriously impact the environment...or god forbid, leech into the groundwater.
