Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Seeing a lot GT Academy players.

No one does replays like PD...release after release...one area they are simply unmatched...

The King Is Back!!

PD are simply unmatched in their videography and art. These are things that remain regardless of hardware power and engineering and its evident throughout every game. Replays look so good because of the dynamism of the camera and the angles PD come up with. Its so good.

So how many got invited to the Beta?

In this thread?

the trees still might be 2d, but it's only really visible in stil pictures. When moving, I focus on the track and I'm glad they don't put more ressources into things I ultimately won't bother with.

This is absurd looking.

Wow, best looking replay i've ever seen in a racing game. Incredible!

While the shifting sound effects/physics are still quite shit and typical GT-esque, the audio is a step up from previous GT games. Lots of work still to do but it certainly sounds 'playable'...

You guys are pretty excited about the replay videos. Are there any amazing looking gameplay videos out there as well? Because so far, I have not seen anything truly mindblowing.

Ppl have been watching streams and saying how good it looks since page 1 and all you got out of it was the replay videos

Oh my lawd these visuals, especially the lighting. And the sounds are so much better. The UI looks great as well. AI doesn't seem to be sticking hard to the line either?

So does the game have different weather conditions? Is it and the lighting dynamic like Driveclub?

Are you talking about the graphics or the gameplay? I think both look great. Yesterday's online races looked smooth and clean.

Graphics are great, I agree. Just not outstanding.
I always have a hard time judging on the gameplay of racing games when the only thing available is YouTube videos.

This is just silly now.
I always thought that sports simulators like football or basketball would get photoreal and almost indistinguishable from reality first. It seems it is cars with GT Sports.

Wow the lighting is incredible.

Other devs should thank polyphony for their amazing observations of light and reflections.

This should make an fantastic bar for the next few years of racing games to catch up to.

God's own lighting engine.

I don't know why other devs seem to struggle so much to achieve anything remotely as lifelike, or why they choose not to.

Cause It's hard to articulate life and how your eye perceives it. It's art, and a lifelong learning process.

Honestly I didn't even know I was missing things like those little glints on the car, untill I saw them here lol.

Now I cant live without them.

I lol'd at the nonsense above,

I'm still curious why I was asked to name a better looking game after I said GT Sport "looks great".

My original point was that replay videos do not mean a lot to me when I'll spend 99% of my time in actual gameplay, and so far, I have not seen any truly spectacular gameplay snippets - although I should add I already played the game at Gamescom last year, so I could be biased.

I saw the game at the Sony PAX booth and thought it looked fantastic. There was some Japan street track that someone was playing on. I'm excited for the game.

Seeing some jank shadows still poping up in cockpit views. Unfortunate.

Those replays though, lawd.

Not expecting much in the way of damage but I wonder if they'll push that further?

The sound is a total update, no?

I kind of agree in that I want to see some gameplay footage that really shows off the visuals. I find it hard to judge if it matches the replays from the footage. The cars in the replays look above other racing games, including driveclub, to me, but I can't really verify if most things are the same in gameplay. I would be rather disappointed if there was much difference, particularly on Pro...

So I am going to ask a loaded question - I haven't been keeping up too much with GTS development.

... How are we feeling about the trees? I can't really tell from that video, but we've moved on from sprite based, right?

Aaand Sunhi melts my face yet again.

The trees are 3d with many 2D elements.

They also have physically based shading it seems to react to light in different directions. Pretty much no other racing game not on PS4 has that.

Far above what is seen in other games, and even better than what is in DriveClub (though DriveClub probably has more variation in foliage, more density of foliage in many areas probably, and has a more stylized look so it appears differently because of that as well).

Any word on load times? Easy to be overwhelmed by this glorious lighting, but they were a huge problem on PS3

Tremendous news! I don't know why trees matter so much to me in racing games - you do tend to see a lot of them so it just takes away from the overall impression if they're weak.

Nope, most of the trees are a single 2d sprite that rotates around just like in GT6:
