Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Yep, sounds and looks awesome. The engine notes could be a little throatier but there are a lot of little details in the sounds now. Even driving over the rumble strips sounds cool.

I noticed driving over rubble strips in cockpit view sounded much better in an earlier video.

Sounds are improved, but are still not very good imo. Gear shifts sound as dull as they ever have.

Lighting continues to set a new standard.

I think there is no real simulation of driveline elasticity/stress that's why the shifting in race cars still sounds off.

About the rumble strips: Maybe they sound different because they are different? That would be cool, right? Most racing games have one curb sound and change the pitch with the speed you're driving over it and that's it.

It's such a small detail but I love the camera movement in the middle of this shot.

It does happen in other videos too and I'd really like an option to only have "TV style" cameras in replays.

I thought that the lighting in the middle of the day was not as impressive as it was for nightfall or early evening but did finally, no oO

Indeed, part of me want some sort of free camera mode and slow motion to create videos.

Sounds better but still not where it needs to be. All the other gts were 2/10 And sport sounds are a 5/10. If they can hit atleast a 7/10 I'll be happy. Not expecting raceroom quality sounds but atleast driveclub should be the norm.

I give the new sounds an 8/10 , based on the one thread video at least. The combination of these visuals, sounds and GT physics create an incredible racing experience.

8/10??? Really?? I mean....im not sure how many racing games you played but if you consider this an 8/10, what do you consider the sounds in dirt rally, GRID, driveclub, project cars, assetto corsa, forza motorsport, rfactor and raceroom??

I realize they take every bit of performance they can from the system but I'd trade something for a bit of vegetation movement, I think it would really do wonders for realism.

Some screenshots look photorealistic but in the videos everything looks frozen in time except for the car.

The flag waving guys look great and are a step in the right direction.

Probably due to being a Beta, I am sure it will not ship with those trees, often assests are stripped down for download size and optimisation purposes

Might apply to the headlights not being fully modeled (not reflecting off the track and only shining when close to the camera) but the trees might ship like that,

Any word on load times? Easy to be overwhelmed by this glorious lighting, but they were a huge problem on PS3

Aaaand I'm overwhelmed again

Tremendous news! I don't know why trees matter so much to me in racing games - you do tend to see a lot of them so it just takes away from the overall impression if they're weak.

Looked ok on the streams but GT is definitely been one of the games that has benefitted the most from SSD since GT5. GT sport im sure will be the same.

Honestly, I have had the thought that Forza 7 may actually end up having dynamic stuff this time around too (Scorpio/PC version at least). With the regular XB1 version doing what GT Sport is doing, not using prebaked lighting or dynamic weather, but set weather before the race starts and static lighting conditions (using a non-baked lighting system) that doesn't require continuous calculations.

But then I think about how it took them 3 main entries after GT5 had released to put in night time tracks and some sort of weather options, and start to think dynamic systems won't show up till Scorpio's successor is out as their rate of improvement per entry is severely limited by their set in stone 2 year release cycle. But yeah, it won't be a proper GT replacement by any means (as I really prefer GT's handling/controls/progression over Forza's) but I will absolutely pick up FM7 if they end up having dynamic TOD.
Three main entries...but the question is would Microsoft let Turn 10 add a much wanted feature exclusively to Scorpio? If it's going in I would have thought it would be on both platforms.

It would certainly rattle the cage though. As you said Forza Motorsport has been slow to react to dynamic conditions but I really could see it being showcased on Scorpio and included on XBOX ONE. That would be a major win.

I'm pretty sure Gran Turismo will be the best looking game on any platform when it comes but it doesn't make-up for the loss of seeing a night breaking to dawn in the fog and changing to rainy conditions. GT5 loved to do that. It looked glorious for one thing but it changed gameplay too.

5 and 6 done decently well. The point is you get much more powerful hardware and cannot spring on from what you achieved before and do better with framerate?

I don't buy it, not from PD. They're suppose to be the technical wizards, not lose ground to other devs.

...

The longer PD don't take Forza seriously the longer it will get panned by critics and slowly lose a bit of marketshare. Although Driveclub was a disaster at launch, it done a 180 of XB1 proportions and Sony still threw all of it under a bus to favour PD. The same PD who keep losing ground to T10 critically.
I get what your saying but PD wouldn't be loosing ground to other devs. Other devs would be catching up...to where PD was in 2010!

I don't buy it either. Its been discussed before and dynamics is what Kaz wants. It's just the hard work, as pointed out by Dan Greenawalt, of getting it in there, which is why it's been completely absent from Forza Motorsport.

Looks very promising from the streams.

They really should have had a full GT out by now and hope that this is good enough to hold me attention.

Any word don when the VR will be shown

still slightly bummed about downgraded PSVR support, but with graphics like these I understand. Also, i'm pretty sure that subaru cars are included in this game, which automatically puts it ahead of the also-ran (non rally) sims on PS4.
