What makes it fun? Looks like your typical survival game,
They survival genre is now the Hunger Games genre.

You aren't meant to survive for very long. Now these games dump you in a big map with 100+ other people and keep restricting the play area until one person is left and wins.

This game and H1Z1: King of the Kill are both going to be the breakout giant PC hits this year.

ModBot

Not a mod, just a bot.
This is a scheduled automated repost on behalf of derFeef, who is running this raffle.

Just paste in the link to your Steam community profile, and make sure your inventory isn't private.

Edit: It's currently giving me issues but I just used it a few days ago with no problems. If it gives you problems, just paste the last part of your profile link (bolded below) and keep trying; that worked for me just now.

"There is absolutely no connection to NieR in NieR:: Automata except for easter eggs" they said..

playing through the game, seeing easter eggs for drakengard and nier...

think to myself "yeah I guess there's no connection except for easter eggs and themes"

play some more

literally meet a character from NieR

"what the fuck were these people saying there's no direct connection to NieR?"

ok fam

Nobody ever said there are no connections to Nier, just that these connections are trivial subplots not required to enjoy main story line

plenty of people said that

particularly those who, apparently, never played NieR

I remember someone asking "should I play NieR first" and multiple responses of "there is nothing in the game that ties into the first beyond easter eggs" and that is patently false.

edit: I don't just mean in this thread, I mean all over the G-A-F

I don't really have an opinion on the game of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS itself, but when I saw it popping up on Twitch it was just a weird thing, the game has a terrible name and the tile art is just the blandest thing. PLAYERUNKNOWN is no Sid Meier or American McGee. Why is the game's name in all caps?

Don't want to scare off potential newcomers. The devs went out of there way to try to make this welcoming for new players. Some might say, "Oh, I have to play Nier to understand this? I'm not going to bother playing this." and they would be turned off. For the most part they can just dive in and enjoy. To me personally Nier: A is Nier/Drakengard to the bone.

Even Yoko Taro says that.
Just yesterday an interview was posted in the game's OT where he says exactly that.

I haven't seent that happening here on GAF.
But if it did, then yea, it was wrong

It's the dude that made the Arma III battle royale mod, the former twitch-bait game, until H1Z1 came around, now he's making his own thing with his name attached to it outside of the Arma framework. The mod for Arma was called PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLE ROYALE so I guess he's sticking with the name recognition? But yeah everything about it seems generic just like most Battle Royale games in my opinion.

I finished up what I wanted to do with Hollow Knight.

It was absurdly good, and seeing that it was kickstarted from $AU 57k~ seems absolutely crazy to me. The game oozes quality and there is not a single corner cut in it. My only real qualm is that the combat ended up feeling too simplistic to me, but it really aces everything else.

This game is going to get so overlooked at large because of when it was released and that is criminal.

Guess I can move on to NieR now.

I guess it worked out though as it seems to have gotten its target audience instantly.

Woah thanks. Didn't realize just how much Dota nonsense I had sitting around that was worth some bucks.

It's by the guy who made the arma mod and h1z1 kotk except he now gets to make the game he envisioned...I guess he had problems doing what he wanted with h1z1 so he bailed and did his own thing. Game is like arma and h1 had a baby...pretty damn fun imo. I realize these games aren't for everyone of course.

Fans of those type of games are always ravenous for new types of those games, there is a real love hate thing with them that makes any new game in the genre instantly popular so they can stop playing the previous one that they hate lol.

I still can't comprehend steam userbase's fascination with those survival games, it's so baffling
I can understand doto appeal, and TF and CS, or even CoD, but I don't get this and never will.
Even more weird is that is totally "steam thingie"

I didn't follow Just Cause 3... it tanked?

if it did, I wouldn't be surprised, it ran or rather didn't ran at all, had day one/preoder dlcs with things that had to be in the game to being with and I'm not sure it's even a good game.
But maybe it is

They're all pretty unrefined and janky, they take a lot of inspiration from DayZ.

But there is something fun about competing against other players in such a unique way. I don't own any of these games yet, but I'll probably pick one up at some point.

This is kind of an offshoot of the survival genre. There's really only two games in it and both were made by the same guy and share about 85% of the same DNA
