Nier: Automata PC performance thread

So I'm guessing that with my measly 760 GTX 2GB, It's not worth getting right now?

I'll probably play the PS4 version in the near future, and double dip on the PC version once I've upgraded my GPU.

Anyone have an issue with mouse permanently being on the center of the screen?

I used that borderless ful lscreen application but it auto-skips cutscenes...

This is such a bad port, debating on just refunding it at this point.

I haven't had either of those problems, and I have never heard anyone say BG is skipping cutscenes. Certainly isn't here. Wonder what is causing that.

Have you tried using Kaldaien's mod instead?

I have to move my mouse off screen. It doesn't get stuck though

Am I reading that right, the pre-rendered video is god damn mpeg 1 ?
I thought that was only the re encoded one's that someone uploaded as a patch?
I don't own the game so I can't check myself, but did anyone else actually check beyond just reading what the guide says?

The thing about the guide is that it seems to be using the youtube video as its basis, and that tube video appears to be using Xenoverse videos as its example, converting those mpeg1 videos to mpeg4.

I too would like to know.

if you are using a pad, just press any direction on the analog and it will disappear.

also, downlading all the movies from that mega link worked. much smoother pre rendered cutscenes.

Look, I get that people with 8x MSAA enabled reported bad performance, but you shouldn't put everyone in the same box.
I have a machine that should handle the game well and it doesn't (and that's after disabling almost everything, which of course includes MSAA)

You like the game (I like it too) but that shouldn't get in the way of people talking about the performance issues that some people are experiencing. Seems like every "I have bad performance" comment gets shut down with "disable MSAA" without even asking the person who commented if that was applicable or not.

I'm not putting everyone in the same box, but a lot of people are just putting the game on high presets and then reporting bad FPS. There are some actual problems that are coming up on certain machines, but for the most part it's stuff like this:

i5-6600K
GTX 1080

Max settings. 1440P.

Average about 45 FPS with a minimum of 30

This game is terribly optimized.

To which "Disable AA" is a perfectly valid reply. 45 FPS with 8x MSAA is perfectly normal.

You might be able to squeeze some decent frames at 720p with the 760, but it's below minimum spec either way. And they are honest specs.

MSAA is extremely taxing, so be sure to lower that off of 8x. The game is very much not running as best as it probably should, but the unlabeled MSAA tends to catch people off guard.

If you're using Borderless Gaming you can use Windows Key + Scroll Lock to hide the mouse.

Having to turn things off is indicative or poor optimization though.
Including a taxing option doesn't mean poor optimization, it just means that the option is taxing (MSAA is usually very taxing on games that use deferred rendering, or something like that).

The AO option includes a pretty decent post-processing AA, so you still have AA by turning the AA option off.

MSAA on a deferred renderer (I assume) is very taxing. Which is why most games no longer include it as an option.

Also the effective results leave a lot to be desired.

That isn't how things work at all.

MSAA is expensive. They could try and optimise it all they want, that shit is still going to make most GPU's struggle.

It's why most games use other methods of AA - Which NieR also has included hidden with the AO setting.

Read this article: http://www.pcgamer.com/what-optimization-really-means-in-games/

While Nier is surprisingly taxing, it's important to keep in mind that this title is niche (though the Steamspy trend is looking good) as hell and it's unlikely a ton of resources were spent making the engine as efficient as possible. Comparing the performance of the 2 versions where the PS4 isn't buttery smooth either, it's more accurate to call this a rather barebones straight port. Not great, but decent. It'd be nice to get some post-launch support whether that's through a patch or driver update, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

It's not the best port ever but it's not really a bad port. If they weren't so damn slow at providing support to the game, one patch would fix almost all the issues people are having. It would turn this "bad port" to a fine one.

At least I can play (and beat) the damn game at a steady framerate unlike Arkham Knight. Now THAT'S a bad port.

Why the hell would the cutscene fix only work for some people? They're videos. >_<

I hope someone figures out a consistent fix.

Finally got the game on Steam.

Specs: i7 6700k, 1070 GTX, 32GB RAM, stock settings/no OC
Monitor: 43" Sony XBR43X800D 4k HDR TV
Screen Settings: All max at fullscreen 1080p
Mods: Special K

Runs 59-60fps at 1080p (except on the 30fps cutscenes), GPU at around 136F/58C max...works for me, can't complain. Looks great, yo.

Yeah sadly my OG PS4 is running circles around my PC (i5-4570/760 GTX) with this game. Pretty throbby framerate even at 720p with everything off. Kind of disappointing since the card was able to hold its own pretty well up until now (Witcher 3 on Ultra at 40-45fps thanks to some tips from Durante's article).

Time to get a new videocard, which kind of is also the good news.

3770 and 1080, also 1440p - basically 60 fps with slight drops in a certain area. Something seems to be off on your end. Also, prerendered cutscenes are always 30fps.

The fix mentioned earlier does help, but very rarely now will I get a screen freeze. Game still runs, I can by memory pause and go save but it's kind of a huge hassle when (again rarely) I do get that issue.

Hopefully an official patch to fix these issues and some others will go out soon, otherwise I'll keep playing and enjoying the game!

With how awful this game looks he really shouldn't have to turn down AA when he's got a 1080...

Dunno how some people aren't seeing anything wrong with the port. It's not that it runs shitty, it's that it runs shitty for how poor it looks.

I mean, I can't even play the game and need to save up several hundred dollars for an entirely new graphics card just to get a framerate that isn't outright unplayable, so trust me, I know it doesn't run all that great. It isn't the fault of the port job so much as it's just how the game runs in general. The game doesn't exactly maintain its framerate on the PS4 or Pro, either.

Finished A route, used Kaldaien's fix. It was decent, but far from perfect on my pc.

I want to play borderless now, but I can't get more than 45fps, no matter what, it's too unstable. I think I'll wait for an official patch, or whatever, this shit is broken for me.

I love the game, but hated the experience.

Do you understand what AA does? It doesn't matter how poor it looks. Proper anti-aliasing is expensive ALWAYS.

Ok GAF, I finally broke down and bought this. $48 on GMG, I decided to just get over myself about the resolution bug.

i5 6500
GTX 1070
16GB RAM
SSD

Fullscreen, "1920x1080" (I know, not really)
AA off
Texture filtering 4x
Blur on
Shadows medium
Effects high
AO on

With vsync on performance in the initial factory level is not good - dropped frames all over the place when panning the camera. With vsync off it's totally fine (but screen tearing, obviously). This is pretty surprising to me given my rig is fairly decent and the resolution it's running at. Any ideas?

I need some help guys.

I have a GTX970, 4790k and 16GB Ram, yet I still can't get the game to run very well at all.

I'm at 1080p (windowed), Vsync off, no AA, no blur, Shadows Medium, Effects High, and AO enabled. Even with AO disabled and AA completely off it's still totally stuttering.

I've tried the fullscreen fix program (this makes it run even worse), Borderless Window, and Rivatuner capping at 60, but I'm still having an absolute shit load of stutter in the main city hub area.

It ran a better in the desert, but it still wasn't devoid of stuttering and some drops.

Did anyone else have this issue with a 970 that was able to get this fixed? I've tried almost everything that I can think of, and I see other people in this topic saying it runs great with a 970. I'm starting to get frustrated. I still have 6+ hours even with these issues. The game is amazing so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

It could be load stutter. Is your game installed on a HDD or SSD?

I initially had it installed on my HDD and that produced some occasional load stutter. Moving the game to my SSD pretty much removed almost all of the stuttering.
