Mass Effect: Andromeda |OT| Ryders on the Storm

The normandy was an active ship when the Tempest was conceived.

I don't really understand why a civilian vessel meant to scout habitable worlds has such a belligerent and dour name. You'd expect something like Armstrong, Drake, Everest, Earhart etc. Maybe Argo if you want to stay with Greek mythology in the vein of ark Hyperion.

Rule of cool over world-building, I guess.

Is there anyway to change your name after starting the game?

I started from the beginning (decided to keep my pre-order) AGAIN, did everything, talked to everyone got up to landing on EOS, etc, only to find out that the game had kept Scott as my name, even though I swapped gender to Sara in the character creator.

So now I'm female Scott Ryder!

Am I going to have to restart again?

AFAIK you can't change your name once you begin.

I love when the squad pulls off a combo. An example is I'll prime one enemy with a pull and Cora will blaze in and finish them with Nova or Liam will lob a grenade, etc.

I agree - however in saying that i think the biggest let down is the removal of the power wheel for squadmates. I want to control those combos when i want to and they can combo when i don't feel the need to interfere.

Otherwise having an absolute blast with the game so far.

ha, to be fair they call you "Ryder" 99% of the time so you wont even notice.

So in MP you get a free box for completing the tutorial challenges. But the "extract from an Apex mission" won't unlock for me. Is it glitched? I've extracted regular MP missions of course, and I've also done a strike Apex mission to be sure.

I didn't notice actually, until I loaded my game this morning and I notcied that ti was under Scott. But that's goign to bother my OCD too much. ::sigh:: I'll have to play through Habitat 7 again.

Going to see if maybe Cheat engine has somehting might help me tonight though.

I totally get that. Some people love that complete control and strategic aspect. But I have to admit that I don't mind having it trimmed back to just positioning the squad and letting them do their thing. I mean, it works.

Love this too! I've had some really cool moments with Cora's cryo ammo and my biotic Lance. The ice shatters / explodes for an instant kill!

Totally agree with another poster that a slight improvement would've been to keep squad power commands. The controller is getting crowded at this point, but maybe a Left/Right D-pad *press* could trigger powers while the two-second *hold* places them? I do love the smooth, fast-paced action, so I don't want to spend any more time in the wheel.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Really like the way my Ryder turned out, looks like the hero of an 80's movie.

30 hours in. All bugs and performance issues aside it still feels like a fun Mass Effect game. My biggest complaint is the human crew members are really blah imo. Loving the combat, upgrades systems, etc...

Played about an hour of the campaign last night before heading out to see Beauty and the Beast. Seems like Mass Effect so far which is pretty much all I wanted. Unsurprisingly I've put more time into the multiplayer so far and it's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. If they support the game on the same level as ME3, I will be lost in Andromeda for a looooong time.

The animations are so clunky and awkward, only a few hours in...

If you played HZD or Zelda before this game, I recommend a buffer game... ME4 pales in comparison tomthese recent releases.

After an hour or so of game time the graphics issues everyone has been complaining about seem way overblown...only thing I have noticed is the lips seem to be out of sync slightly sometimes.

I guess there also seem to be a bit of variation in the quality of the graphics/animations...some stuff looks very very good other stuff a bit average. i.e. some character models are very well done while other have more basic hair/faces

Just feels like mass effect so far. I am excited!

Wonder what all this entails:

Maybe fixed some actual animation bugs/glitches?

So how difficult is the game on insanity? I'm not sure what way to play yet if focusing on soldier abilities with some biotics sprinkled or go all out vanguard which is what I played before. Also is there a way to respec?

He seems fine to me, imagine that. But I still can't wait to use the others. I just got Vetra, Drack and Peebee last night and am just really scratching the surface.

Just finished Eos yesterday(well, the main mission related to the radiation) and what little I saw of Drack was fun. Can't wait to bring him in my party permanently.

Not sure if I should use Peebee or Jaal to go with my Vanguard style combat though. Is Jaal even using biotics? I doubt it since biotics aren't something from Andromeda, so I might go with Peebee.

Just can't stand that dude. Vetra and Drack are awesome, though I'm reluctant to bring Vetra because I don't care for her skills all that much. Still a bit too early to judge Peebee, definitely like her more than Sera so far which seems like the Inquisition equivalent.

The white line that keeps appearing on the screen in the exact same spot is really starting to annoy me now. This better be something fixed in the next patch because having to restart the game constantly is not good. Especially with the save system in this game.

Who the fuck would keep Lenny Kravitz in their squad the second Vetra rolls in, much less all the cool ass squadmates they hand your way

Also is it just me or do they really get to the point of giving you all your squadmates early, I remember it taking a while in ME1

I'm 7 hours in and I'm really diggin it

It's HARD man. Especially on the prologue world, where you've got shit guns and no profile bonus and only one power. Even after that, though, it demands smart play. Prioritize targets, stay aware of your surroundings, and for God's sake don't get cornered or stuck.

It's goooooood. Brutal but oh so fun.

Yeah, you get everyone within the first 1/4 - 1/3 of the game. I dig it for this particular entry because you get plenty of time with them, but I'd like to return to staggering for the sequel(s).

I can't wait to use Vetra and Drack, as I love their personalities. Vetra seems like a female Garrus, only more savvy in a sly fox sort of way, and Drack is, well... a hilarious and completely badass Krogan.

Early game spoilers (like, first two hours):

I really really REALLY want to keep Cora in my main squad since it seems her being passed up for Pathfinder could be a really interesting character arc, but I think I'm just going to swap people out constantly every mission to get more of the banter

I like the heavy hittin' though I have no clue why they were all on that damn planet

Eh... you could get Tali, Wrex and Garrus rather quickly after a few quests on your first visit to the Citadel(you could argue that you get them much faster than Andromeda squadmates). Only Liara could take a while depending if you go straight to her mission after leaving the Citadel.

I think I got Garrus first then went and did the Liara mission when I did ME1

I remember getting Wrex and Tali last

Don't think it's even possible to get Tali after Liara since you have to become a Spectre to even reach the planet where Liara is located. And you can't become Spectre without Tali.

Weird how people hate Liam. He seems like the kind of guy you like to hang out and shoot the shit with. He is a great character.

He's just not as cool as the rest

Are you questioning my memories HOW DARE YOU

you're probably right

I was listening to the Giantbomb podcast this morning and they made it sound like this game was pretty broken at points. Is it really that fucked? They recommended waiting for patches.

30 hours in and haven't found anything game breaking at all aside from frame rate issues in certain locations.

In interested to see the DF on this, I bought it on PS4 because i had heard the pro was running at 30 pretty locked, however after completing the first mission and into the Nexus I feel as if there were a lot of sub 30 drops on the first planet, maybe these vanish later in the game.

Ps4 pro by the way.

People called Romanes they go the house?

There have been (major sidequests) times where the 'trigger' for the next stage, etc...has either not loaded, not worked, or been busted.

Not often, mind, but it's happened at least a couple of times already.
