A former Russian parliamentarian who fled to Ukraine and harshly criticized the Russian authorities has been shot dead in Kiev.

Denis Voronenkov, formerly a Communist Party lawmaker in the State Duma, was one of two men killed outside Kiev's Premier Palace hotel March 23, according to the Vesti Ukraine news website. Kiev Police Chief Andrei Krishchenko said the murder was likely a contract killing, according to the Meduza news site.

Voronenkov served in the State Duma until October 2016 when he lost his seat in parliamentary elections. Having lost parliamentary immunity, he fled a corruption investigation with his wife, former United Russia lawmaker Maria Maksakova. In December 2016, Voronenkov received Ukrainian citizenship.

Last month, Russia launched large-scale fraud charges against the former parliamentarian after he gave a damning interview to the Ukrainian media outlet Censor.net.ua.

During the interview, he said that Russia was in the grip of a "pseudo-patriotic frenzy” similar to Nazi Germany, and claimed that it was a “mistake” for Russia to annex the Crimean peninsula.

If Putin has no qualms about poisoning someone with radioactive material in London then he sure as fuck won't hesitate to shoot someone in the Ukraine.

According to our media, police say that the killer is wounded and has been apprehended.

If so, I hope they can get to the bottom of it and potentially pin it on Russia

Last month:
Aside from his criticism of the Kremlin, he says he has helped Ukrainian prosecutors build their treason case against Viktor Yanukovych, the former Ukrainian president who fled to Russia during the Euromaidan unrest in February 2014 and is suspected of ordering the killings of more than 100 protesters in Kyiv, by telling them what he knows in an official testimony.

Voronenkov declines to say specifically what he told them about Yanukovych, only that "I told them some details of what was going on. And I will give testimony in open court in the course of judicial inquiry held in Ukraine."

It's not a government there. It's a crime syndicate.

MOSCOW — A lawyer representing the family of Sergei L. Magnitsky, a Russian auditor and lawyer who died in prison in 2009 after uncovering a $230 million fraud targeting an American-born financier, suffered severe head injuries on Tuesday after plunging from his Moscow apartment building.

Russian news organizations said the lawyer, Nikolai Gorokhov, fell while helping movers carry a hot tub up to his fourth-floor apartment. They showed photographs of a shattered tub outside the building.

The financier, William F. Browder, said Mr. Gorokhov was to appear in a Moscow court on Wednesday to appeal on behalf of Mr. Magnitsky’s mother for an investigation into new evidence relating to the fraud scheme first exposed by Mr. Magnitsky.

Would it make any difference? I mean, they have actual russian troops attacking them sporadically and Russia only get sanctions for that.

Can't we just make a drone thats small enough to just fly through the back of putins head and out the other side then up up and away?

The story gets better

Browder has been battling for more than a decade to recover the money. Sergei Magnitsky, his chief attorney in the case, died in a Moscow prison in 2008 after what Browder says was torture and denial of critically needed medicine. (Gorokhov is also the Magnitsky family’s lawyer.)

The case eventually made its way to the desk of Preet Bharara, the recently fired US attorney for New York’s Southern District.

Bharara was one of 18 Americans banned from Russia in a tit-for-tat move after president Barack Obama passed the 2012 Magnitsky Act, which levied sanctions against Russians associated with the lawyer’s incarceration and death.

Then, in 2013, Bharara’s office filed a suit to seize the assets of Cyprus-based Prevezon, which allegedly used the stolen Hermitage funds to buy New York real estate. Bharara was fired by Trump last week, but the case is about to go to trial.

And even better

Attorney Marc Mukasey is reportedly on the shortlist to replace Bharara, Buzzfeed reports. He’s the son of former US attorney general Michael Mukasey, who represented Prevezon in court last year.

According to the Russians he committed suicide by shooting himself and a friend several times before disposing of the gun. Just like that former Roscosmos exec who stabbed himself several times in a Russian jail. And Nemtsov's lawyer who threw himself from a third floor building.

Really terrifying and it's all supposed to be obvious to let others know the price of crossing Putin. If the FBI can't get people to talk in their investigation of Trumps connections to Russia, it probably won't be to protect Trump, it'll be because they don't want to accidentally be electrocuted in their bath tub some night.

Jesus Christ, how many critics has he had killed now? Over 100? Putin is pure evil.

A lot, and they've even attempted more than once on the same target.

One such person is Vladimir Kara-Murza, he has been now poisoned twice (2015 and 2017), almost losing his life twice to some nasty shit they still don't know what it is, new samples of his 2nd poisoning is being tested by multiple independent labs in various countries that were sent by his wife and lawyer.

It completely shuts down all his organs over hours and was kept in a medically induced coma and all his organs kept artificially running, from both poisonings he had to go through rehabilitation like learning to walk again.

He describes that he doesn't know how he is poisoned, probably through something like coffee/tea at a cafes he frequents, and that it would be essentially incubated and suddenly hit much later on where everything just starts to fail.

He got treated by same medical team in Russia with both poisonings, and his rehabilitation was done in the U.S.

He is now returning again to Russia to fight Putin again and transform Russia into the democratic country he sees many people in Russia wants. Doctors said that if he gets poisoned again he may not survive it.

Takes a lot of courage to fight so much for what you believe in and he knows how that there is a lot of anti-Putin sentiment as well as to transform Russia which is why he and other opposition are not stopping their fight under such a severe and hostile environment.

Just thought I'd let others know of him, BBC also did an interview with him a few weeks ago on their show HARDTalk. Not the best quality recording but I found it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seHrUtv19r4&ab_channel=LudVan172

He'll probably die mysteriously in custody.

Wow Putin critics sure do seem to have the unfortunate tendency to wander into the paths of deadly weapons! How clumsy of them! In a way it reinforces the glory and strength of Putin to know that so many of his detractors are so terribly uncoordinated!

This is the Trump mob business model. No wonder he admires (or is beholden to) Putin so much.

Yep, just imagine if Donald could just kill anyone who opposes him and tries to ruin his perfect life! Donald's life would be much more enjoyable without those annoying flies! Donald wants, wants, wants!
