For reference, this was Sony and Call of Duty event last week with MLG for one of their regular tournaments (not their worlds)

This is what MLG did for a Gears of War 4 open invitational in Columhus with a fraction of the viewerbase and fans and money.

Just out of interest:
Microsoft owns a theater in los angeles which they could use without renting cost.

It looks like this

but they picked the one in the OP

MS doesn't organize this - ESL does. It is odd they didn't ask MS for help with finding the venue. It sounds like they're the issue, not MS.

Wait the pot is $1 million and people are complaining? To me the pot is the most important part. Who cares about the venue?

This.

Also, a steady 17k-19k watching online WHICH IS THE MAIN FOCUS. Of course the in-person crowd will be smaller. You guys want there to be an arena or hundreds of comfy chairs?

Jeez.

So weird, MLGs owner already said MS and 343 are super weird to deal with and he tried to bring himself back into Halo as an organizer.

Tickets for this were 99$????

To sit in at the actual stage? yes. lmao
For the tent it was still 40 I think

17-19k people watching is pretty damn terrible for a tournament with a million dollar pot.

Presentation is key and this is a huge downgrade from last year's World Championship in both venue and on-site crowd

Yup. Adam says he has been straight up disrespected at times by 343 and THEY would want nothing more than to be involved with Halo again.

Judging by the pics in the OP, there would be no way they would fill even half that theatre.

Corporations like Microsoft don't work that way. The division responsible for the tournament would have to rent the venue still and put it on their budget.

Tickets for the main area were sold out. Also Halo events on the westcoast are never doing that great

and who cares how full the theatre is, it actual would feel fitting for the pot

I mean this is still 500k more than SFV. I think if I were a pro I'd prefer the chance to win half a mil more than have a slightly nicer venue.

I will say this, the games and production of this tournament is on point with few technical difficulties.

But the venue and lack of advertising is what's ruining it.

If the population simply isn't there to watch or attend why have a large venue? Seems like a waste of money. The problem likely isn't the venue being picked but simply the appeal of Halo and the interest level in watching it that causes a smaller venue in the first place.

The pictures are a little biased since everyone is looking at the overflow tent. Still a problem though.

There may be a legit venue here but it doesn't really help promote a big sporting event if only a few dozen VIPs are the ones able to watch it in style.

Other eSports venues open up hundreds/thousands of seats to the public.

You forget that it's only for media, vip, players, etc.

Everyone else is stuck in a tent.

Stop trying to put a happy face on this situation, I've been in the competitive Halo community for 10+ years and this event is disgraceful.

Jem's job on NeoGaf is to take the most unpopular opinion and defend it.

<3 you Jem

Yes you are probably right.
Sick, I was hoping we'd get another thread where people could driveby shitpost on the Halo franchise.

Thanks OP
What? So we should ignore this? The people who are going the hardest in on this are the ones the most invested in this franchise, like me, Cyren etc.

Putting it to attention can only do good things.

The venue, views, and venue are pretty sad, but the narrative that this is 343's, or the tournament organizer's fault has me scratching my head. Halo is on the decline. It's not the big shooter on the block. 343 pours in money, hence a million dollar prize pool, and yet this is the best we get. A bigger venue would just mean more empty seats. The halo community pushing this story are only hurting a community already on the decline. What does this negativity do to improve or grow the scene?

For people saying, the venue is so small because Halo is on the recline, remember the main area seating tickets were sold out and the comparison to last year.
Everyone who was there last year is still interested in Halo 5..

We are not asking for LoL sized arenas, just for the same one from last year, and not fucking balloon tied to a stone
