I think he said or implied he was stepping away from Gaf because he felt he got dogpiled due to this topic.
he's kinda snappy and sore about this subject on twitter too tbh. he's too close and he's something of a Mass Effect fanboy, so I think the negative reception just got to him. He'll cool off once the bad press goes away and people move on to the next big game.
But one thing to say: If you can't take negative responses to your views, you shouldn't be posting in discussion forums. Sometimes it's the way the cookie crumbles. Andromeda is a mess.
Sure, he's a fan, but I was under the impression he was being accused of shilling, and throwing that accusation around with no evidence is crossing a line.

Well... he wrote a book long post gushing about how great the game is before the game released, adding to people's prerelease hype. Then the game comes out and doesn't quite match his rose tinted glasses prespective.
So yeah, I'd hide under a rock for a while too if I had embarrassed myself that bad too. People don't like being lied to. Who knew?

i'm sure but i read the entire thread and that accusation only appears in an extremely tiny amount of posts in this topic. I like shinobi but he should relax and come back and not get so emotionally invested in some random dude's opinion about how authentic his opinion is.

Yup. When this first got posted I was already a bit skeptical because he's been a pretty fanboy of the series here (which is fine) and he's upfront about that in his post, but now having played Andromeda maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan could I not disagree more with almost everything in his first post, and I'm also a pretty big fan of the first three games. For what it's worth I don't think he was intentionally misleading people or anything.
This went beyond negative responses to a view, people called him liar and shill.

More like people on here can't accept that others like things they (or critics or the general consensus) don't and vice versa. It's not like he wasn't playing the game. He wasn't a shill, just someone like me who's a big ME fan and doesn't have the crazy high standards the vocal minority on GAF has and thus had a lot of fun with the game despite all its flaws. Doesn't mean people who hate it are wrong by any means, and most feel it's ok at best. People simply have different tastes and different standards.
GAF, at leas the vocal minority "consensus," is pretty much useless for me as my tastes in games, movies, shows etc. are just too casual and low brow and I'm not nitpicky at all with my entertainment (and care little about the art of it as if I'm not working I want to shut my brain off and escape). ME:A has a ton of flaws, is a big let down compared to the trilogy, but I'm still having a blast driving around alien worlds and enjoying the characters and escaping for a while a few evenings a week. The combat is very good too so I'm looking forward to checking out the MP.
the best i can say about Andromeda is that the pieces are there to make a good sequel in the future. But they're pieces glued together by this rushed, buggy, incoherent product.
And yeah I have no problem with shinobi's opinion, i think he authentically believes the game is good. Sometimes though when you love something enough you're just more willing to overlook certain flaws. That doesn't make you dishonest or someone who is lying or trying to mislead though. shinobi dug the game, a lot of others are finding they don't. No biggie.

He didn't embarass himself, if anything, people calling him liar and shill did. He even stressed the following:
And I happen to agree with him, I finished the game yesterday and I loved it, despite few hiccups. The first 2-3 hours were good, so I don't blame him for being positive, especially since he's a fan of the franchise.

Man, I wish this had been an avatar bet.
I don't know anybody at Bioware and most of what he said matched my experience. It does feel like the first Mass Effect, the combat is fantastic and the music reminds me a lot of the first game.
It's a real rpg, made to reward players who explore and interact with the world.
The reaction to Shinobi was one of the reasons the review thread was locked.
well i didn't read the review thread. but that makes more sense then, this thread was pretty tame compared to many i've seen.

Although I didn't refer to him as a shill in this thread. My concern was that he had an early copy of the game and that he was his usual exuberant self about a game that I was a bit skeptical of the quality. It's been explained to me now how he got his early copy. (A friend of his works at Bioware)
I've been around long enough to know that Shinobi and I don't see eye to eye on everything that he loves to pieces. I don't think he is a shill now but I also don't think he is doing himself any favours when he posts the way he does sometimes.

I can understand Shinobi hiding, people here can be assholes. And he's probably not happy at all at the reception it's receiving.

yeah, it's strange reading this now. my 2 main takes from the section he describes:
1) the first encounter with the kett was '50's b-movie-level awful, & seriously disappointing!
2) habitat 7 was ugly, the enemy encounters were spastic, & it all went on for far too long...
no, i don't think he was misleading people. but, yeah, he was absolutely (determinedly?) only seeing the half-full part of the cup
...The review thread was locked because it was fully derailed to be about Shinobi.

Based on his Twitter feed his views on the game haven't changed a whole lot.
For fuck's sake. Get outta here with this. No, he did not leave "embarrassed because the game is bad". He left because of nonsense like these posts right here, and the toxicity of the circle jerking in this topic and others. Hell the review topic got locked in no small part due to people shitting on him relentlessly.

Some people can be overly critical of games and their faults but the opposite is just as bad.
I'm not shitting on him at all, though. But if you're this sensitive to such a tame post as mine, and he's the same, then yeah discussion forums aren't the best place for you. I like shinobi as I said, but if it was on the basis of this thread alone there's no reason to leave because very few people actually called him a liar or a shill in this topic.
I didn't know about the review thread lock, however.
