How do you know if you have a JoyCon issues? And what is the penny test?

movement stops working or you continue moving in a direction you are no longer holding is pretty easy to feel/see for joycon issue. I think the penny test is setting a penny in the dock and if it can be held up the dock is bent.

I have the joycon issue, but don't want to send in my controller and be out from playing zelda. What's the process look like? I may just do it this week...

A penny should freely move through the side of the dock. But when I do it, the penny gets stuck near the top, confirming the bend in the dock that is visually apparent.

For JoyCon repairs, I think Nintendo takes care of overnight shipping. Turnaround time is less than 7 days iirc. It's just disappointing for the issue to be present with both units I tried. I've been actively hunting for a Switch for a while only to have multiple issues that will further prevent me from enjoying Zelda and the system in general. It's a bad look for Nintendo, despite them offering repairs.

I suppose for me, it's just the realization that this Nintendo hardware isn't the quality I've come to expect from them.

I received my Pro Controller from Amazon on Friday and I am completely disappointed by my purchase so far. I have read the reviews and impressions on this device which prompted me to make this purchase when next available. My experience with this Mad Catz quality bargain bin controller have been less than stellar, the buttons feel strange and the triggers feel even worse. The quality of this controller makes me think of the construction of the Fisher Price feeling Wii U controllers (which is a personal opinion). The pro controller is leagues better than the included Joy-con Controller but well inferior to the offerings by MS and Sony which are a fraction of the price. I hope this controller will grow on me but my initial impressions are not great...

Thanks for the impression. Does it have a headphone jack?

I could agree with MS, but I don't find the Dualshock 4 to be a particularly superior controller.

Nope. When has Nintendo ever been on the cutting edge on controller tech other than rumble which not many give a crap about anymore.

The DS4 is worlds better than the garbage tiny hands T-Rex DS3 which is the only reason I included it. MS is still light years ahead of Sony in terms of controller design...

Are you guys finding the two Joy-Con as separate controllers comfortable? The L/ZL/R/ZR side of the controllers is making it pretty difficult to hold for me. I wonder if it's just something you get used to.
I really hope a line of Joycons XLs is released. Essentially, break off the grips of the Pro Controller and add a joycons rail to side into the Switch.

Mines bent also, I've played mostly in docked mode. I wonder if the heat is causing it to warp.

Someone else in the comments posted a photo of their bent Switch. With other commentators saying theirs are bent as well.

Let us know if it's ok.
Holy shit, I only play in docked mode so this horrified me. Luckily, mine is unaffected after hundreds of hours with Zelda. My dock is on its side (elevated for ventilation) such that the Switch screen is facing upward.

This comment just highlights how subjective controllers are between different people.

I got a Pro Controller at launch, and love it. It fits my hands perfectly, has a nice weight to it, and has a robust build quality. Face and shoulder buttons have a nice action to them, the sticks are the right height for my thumbs.

I play a bunch of digital input games, so my preference is always to have the d-pad in the primary position, as per the Dual Shocks or Wii classic controllers, but the Pro has been fine for playing Shovel Knight so far. Apart from my preference for the left stick / d-pad layout, the Switch Pro feel much nicer to use than the Wii Controller Pro.

Overall, I'd rank it a behind the DS4, but far better than the Joy Cons, any Xbox controller, or the god awful WiiU Pro Controller.

Now I might just do what Erika showed on his video by adding a USB extension cord from the base to the Switch itself so that I can continue playing on docked mode but the Switch itself won't be inside the dock.

Is that yours? At first it looks like the ruler is pivoting on the edge of the Switch, but if it is bent, it could be swelling from the battery expanding inside. Which isn't good. That isn't good at all.

The bending seems to be over the heatsink area in the ones shown in a wide view.

Are you blocking the air intake on the back of the dock?

so the switch is... less rigid than we thought

most definitely can turn into an issue as far as the dock is concerned

anyone notice and performance issues?

Not mine, from that reddit thread

Do we even know if these bent switches were bent after use or did they come out of the box bent and people are only noticing it now after they're holding rulers up to them?

I'll check mine when I get home (don't have a straight edge atm) but, visually, it looks fine.

Doubt many were checking before someone noticed it.

The Spigen tempered glass screen protectors are really nice.

Got mine in, it came with wet wipes, microfiber cloth, and an antistatic lint remover.

Installation was easy, no trapped air.

No loss of touch precision.

Maybe this is related to the cracks appearing near the air vent reported by people online.

Ya, it seems to be that affected units are bending at/over the heat sink area, so you'd expect cracks in the plastic in those locations if there's warping.

So...holy crap this is bad. Sorry for everybody this is happening to, I guess everybody better rig up something and ditch the dock ASAP I guess?

I saw the post on reddit and had to check here to see if there was anything more to it. :(

I'm happy using the adapter for tv play. What could be causing the switch to bend?

Bad thermal coupling is my guess, hence why most don't seem to have any problem. But if a set of units (much like with the joycons) had poor thermal paste usage or placement, the system would have worse than anticipated heat dissipation capabilities.

So some units are heating up and the plastic is warping due to this.

Yeah, without pictures of that same person's switch out of the box, it is hard to say anything.

Mine has a slight curve, I guess? I don't know whether it is a defect or within standard production variation.

I mean, it could take a few weeks for these issues to start appearing, I think the number of people realizing that they have bent units in this thread alone makes me think it's not just a few.

Is not about the dock. I used the hori stand and a usb cable extender to avoid using the craptastic dock included by nintendo and my switch is bet, no too much to be noticeable but sure is bent.

Oh...brutal, it would have been better if it was due to the dock (at least easier for it to be resolved or avoided for others) , this happening outside of the dock is not good.

Oh really? I've used my dock for maybe an hour, and then disassembled it and use the same setup you described. I guess the GPU clocking up is causing it to heat up to the point of warping?

Heat warping the plastic most likely.

Probably nothing to do with dock itself and everything to do with the increased power and heat profile of the system while docked.

think xbox 360 heatsink or heat dissipation issues.

Well, on the positive side. It doesn't seem to be widespread.

Most people even in here have no idea if there's is bent from this or out of the box. You're looking at an echo chamber for data, don't bother. Look to more casual places/concerns airing on the issue because the joy-con issue, for instance, one could tell was wide spread because it was all over the internet.

I...really don't want to check mine. Cause I know if I do I'll never not see it and it will bother me until the end of time. I'd probably go insane.

So you don't think people would have noticed right away if their new units were warped? lol...sure.
