Persona 5 Review Thread

Don't think it was posted here yet, WhatCulture Gaming made a pretty neat (newcomer friendly) video review of the game, with minor spoilers, mostly stuff we all know from P4 anyway.

On another note: P5 now has fifteen 100-Ratings on MC and all 43 reviews were positive so far:

This was a really cool review, thanks. Tomorrow I'll begin my first ever Persona title. Pretty fucking hyped and come on EZA post your review already.

Here's a thought, does higher meta score bring in more clicks(if this, Zelda, Nier, Horizon and Nioh gaf threads are anything to go by, it sure does) and thus, Metacritics is delaying adding lower reviews for as long as possible?

At least according to game writers who have commented on the matter, review scores don't correlate to traffic as much as the profile of the game in general. I would suspect the same is true of Metacritic. People check because it's Persona 5, not because the 90+ matters to them; those people are such a tiny subset to be irrelevant to the larger picture.

Pre-ordered PS3 version on ebay. The lack of sharing features and 30fps on the PS4 version pushed me to buy the version that costs 20 bucks less.

So... Heard some pretty damn good stuff about this game, and series. I haven't played an JRPG since Final fantasy X and X/2 on the PS2, which i really liked tbh. What can i expect from this game? Can i jump in on 5 without playing the previous entries?

So I'd be right in assuming that this game is much closer to Persona 4 than SMT IV, correct?

In what ways? I mean yeah it'd be closer in mechanics to the previous entries in it's series than it's parent series, but thematically it's different and it has guns and demon negotiation like SMT/Persona 1 & 2.

yes you don't have to play the previous entries

its like mass effect 2 but with a turn based combat system also kind of pokemon stuff

Yeah, aside from references and them taking place in the same universe, the stories and characters are stand alone to their respective entries minus a few instances in past games.

Well, there are demons, so it's in some way closer to SMT IV :p

In fact, I see Persona 5 as a improved execution from P3&P4 formula but embracing its roots (a more crude social commentary, demons as enemies) and improve them as well (demon negotiations is a lot more closer to the typical system from Megaten than the Contact System from P1&P2, so they are more funny and less tedious)

100% all dub here. I love japanese games, I can't stand to hear Japanese voices.

I like the dub a lot. Though the sound quality is somewhat iffy.

But I like Ryuuji, Ann and Makoto's VA. And god damn Kameshida is perfection. That guy is such a dickface, I love it.

It just hits harder when I hear them speaking a language I understand.

Please wish me well in the hopes that THIS will be the persona game that hooks me. I've played them all since 2. I like them well enough but haven't had the passion for them that some fans of the series do. Each one makes me hope that this will be the one that gets its hooks in me.

Anyone know who is doing the giant bomb review?
I really doubt we see one, unless they've said otherwise. Reviews aren't a focus of the site anymore and a 100 hour assignment when short staffed isn't a great use of resources. If anyone from GB finishes the game it'll likely be on their own time, not a review schedule.

Metacritic user scores are coming in and it's already at 9.3 with 34 reviews.
Dual unniversal acclaim here we gooooooooo.

Also the first visible negative review is comedy gold:

Rating a zero until the Playstation users who know nothing about Zelda retract the negative reviews of Zelda. Yeah pointless and negative but thought it only fair in the war of consoles.

I will retract this review if see the negative reviews of Zelda removed. If not I hope other Switch Zelda players do the same tit for tac to this wonderful Playstation game.
