Darkest Dungeon |OT| A festering mecca of antediluvian evil

Man, that changelog sounds fantastic. I sort of dropped this in favor of other RPGs, but I can see myself getting back into it as soon as the update is live for Playstation platforms.

Has anybody who uses the GOG version had this problem? Installed a mod (assassin class) and, just like the Readme said, I started the localization.bat for include the new lines into the game. At first I had some problems but learned I needed to edit the bat file to target /windownosteam. Did that and now the message: localization.exe has stopped working appears every time I try to run the bat.

Someone knows how to fix this?

I've been playing constantly since the Radiant update and just finished the final boss. Awesome game!

Jester is absolutely insane for the final dungeons (I only had one, used him for DD2). With a fully upgraded weapon, Finale does 17.5 - 32.5 base damage. You can add at least 130% to that (hater quirks, slugger, warrior of light, two damage trinkets, MAA/Occultist camping skills). I was able to add 90%, bringing minimum damage up to 33.25 and did multiple 90+ damage criticals as the first action of a battle.

I was feeling overconfident after DD2 and of course got a level 6 team slaughtered in DD3, with horrible heals from Occultist, no criticals from GR, all criticals from opponents.

Over the course of the whole game, I'd have to say Hellion with a stun amulet is the best hero. Double stun of the front ranks, plus bonus stun resistance, is a huge advantage. Plus being able to target any rank for good damage.

I'm definitely glad I waited until the Radiant update. There was still a bit too much grinding for loot and power-leveling for my taste, but it wasn't too bad with the changes (for example, bringing a level 6 DD survivor to give bonus exp in Veteran dungeons).

Looks like Steam Workshop support is live with a bunch already polished and done. Including one described as the "Long War" of Darkest Dungeon, which seems insane.

It did the day before yesterday. If anyone has any quick tips it would be nice. I've waited to play until this update.

edit: also for PS4

I'm having an issue with the controller support on steam. My right analog stick acts like a mouse and the triggers act like mouse buttons. Is there anyway to fix this?

Try to run the game without steam. Latest client update messes up controller detection, I'm having a similar issue in Witcher 3 with an x360 pad which is detected as steam controller.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.

Uuh, which one is it?
I'm not really seeing how they'd get a significant strategical layer in Darkest, though.

It's called Pitch Black Dungeon I think. No idea if it really overhauled the strategy layer that much. Most I read about it was greatly expanding enemy variety, items, adding lots of new stuff more at the dungeon and combat level. Also I think it's just suppose to be hard as fuck.

Thanks for the suggestion, worked perfectly.

Really enjoying this game. Just destroyed the Necromancer on my first go in Radient mode. Favorite team so far is Jester, Occultist, Man-At-Arms, and Leper.

This party is going to have serious issues, when you start facing mobs where killing the back rows quickly is #1 priority.

I have only used the Flagellant a few times and it seems like he is a pretty good tank that can heal. Has anyone messed around with his special buffs he gets when high stress or low health? His % based healing seems perfect for beefy classes like Leper and Crusader.

I love how much this game is trending now.

I'm just about to start the long road of RNG torture and punishment of the DLC today but seeing all my buddies online now finally playing a game I've been raving about since early access makes me smile.

It's like when that cool indie band you listened to finally hits mainstream and everyone finally 'gets it'.

I'd fool around with this more but my only Flagellant died from the Curse. I did enjoy pairing him with an Antiquarian spamming Protect Me to get enemies to focus him.

The Crimson Curse can kindly go fuck itself.

It's pretty much the low point of the DLC (outside of the invitation system) imo. It's too easy to catch and spread while not offering nearly as much reward for the constant afflicted state it puts your character in.

Im on my first playthrough and trying to go as blind as possible except for googling some stuff I either missed on tutorials or stuff I just dont understand.

I went to a dlc zone very early and this Crimson curse seems REALLY bad. Did I fk up by doing this so early on? Now my cursed fellas are drinking all my blood even when not using them and I dont know how to deal with it. Should I just dismiss them and figure the stuff out later?

Red Hook has revealed the Crimson Court expansion's new adventurer!

The Flagellant

Wow, talk about a unique addition.

Reading your posts above, it seems like you really favor teams that can kill the enemy backline in the first turn or two. This has me a little worried that my current favorite group of ARB-VES-HOU-MAA is going to flame out pretty soon. They're still doing well in the level 5 dungeons, but I haven't tried one of the Level 6 dungeons yet. The damage mostly comes from the houndmaster tracking for the arbolest, so it's slow, but I love how tough to kill the team is.

Are teams like this viable in the end-game dungeons, or will I eventually need to switch to something closer to the groups you mentioned above?

Fuck everything. Red Hook went and nerfed Jester and his Finale skill. That was the only building I had made! I can see why it needed nerfing (I was getting stupid damage really early in the game) but still. It was a total gimmick move for the most part. Now you have to build up damage on it with other moves instead of just starting the encounter by killing something. God dammit.

Also fuck them adding Crimson Court enemies to the rest of the areas. I'm already spooked to use my cursed party members too much because I don't have that much blood, but now I can get guys cursed without them going to the court?!

Depends what kind of skills and trinkets you are using.

Having said that, the team (ARB - VES - HOU - MAA) is a solid group. In my opinion, Man-at-Arms is the single most important character in DD1-DD2 levels. Similarly Arbalest and Houndmaster are excellent choices.

...

The Crimson Court is such a good add-on. Steam playtime shows 300 hours and I'm still hooked on playing this game. My new favorite tactic is to take two high virtue trinkets (Hero's ring: +25% virtue chance & Ancestor's Tentacle Idol: +25% virtue chance). Equip both of these items to one character and purposefully raising the stress level. When stress level hits 100, it's very likely that the hero will gain Virtue. After this I will pass on the two trinkets to another character. With this method my last run took ~3 hours (Crimson Court second "Epic" level) and three heroes of mine had Virtue.

I've never run that team, so i'm going to do a few Champion runs, then I'll give you an evaluation.

Curse isn't a huge deal. Just make the blood building, cut lowbies that get cursed, and put wasting heroes you want to keep into random stress/disease buildings while you're out. Doesn't affect them unless idle.

I am sure this has been said 100 times but fuck is this game hard. Bought it off the PSN sale and started on normal. I have since switched to Radiant and its still pretty damn tough.

Lots of fun so far but damn do they love to torment you as a player.

I'm glad to see this was the latest post. I just started tonight. I bought it on Steam sale this summer, played about 10 minutes a few weeks back, loved it, but my PC pad was ass so I switched to the PSN version.

I started on normal and was eating shit right off the first fights in the woods due to RNG so that my Knight died. WTF?! I restarted on easy, but even now I am getting butt banged. I was upgrading the black smith, etc in town and TOTALLY spaced out on money so now when I go into my next dungeon I don't have cash for torches or food.Fuck...

Is there a tip on what I should do very early game if I am in this situation?

Also, I tried to go into the woods with mushroom men. Made it to the first encounter, barely won, and had to escape. Jesus...

This game has me ROCK hard though. I hope I eat so much shit I have to start all over. Game's like this just don't exist anymore.

I'm no veteran of the game but I think a big turning point for me was discovering instead of trying to level up heroes or skills first, to upgrade the stage coach first and just sacrifice 2-4 free new recruits every mission, with an Antiquarian if possible for more gold/treasure.

I think one of my biggest lessons from the game was realizing your recruits aren't XCOM esque recruits. They're a free infinite resource that you can sacrifice to make money that should be using to upgrade your town -- not upgrade heroes.

That's why the Stage Coach upgrades can feel worthless if you go in XCOM esque trying to keep/save the same 4-8 heroes from the start.

But if you go into treating them like disposable resources that you can send out to dungeons with low supplies, sacrifice, constantly replace, for the sole purpose of getting enough gold to upgrade your main town buildings to Level 2, then getting 2-4 new recruits each time you visit town is a pretty great resource stream suddenly.

Then once you got blacksmith, guild hall, etc up to Level 2, and maybe a bunch of heroes are starting to survive multiple missions, you can start getting as many heroes to Level 2 as possible. Then once there, you can start picking an A-team and B-Team from all your Level 2s and having them reach Lv3, 4, 5, 6 together.

But pre-Lv3 I found just view them as lemmings and the stage coach as your free supply of lemmings.

BTW who else excited for Crimson Court on PS4 :p 3 weeks to go :D

Alright, I've been curious about this game for a while, so I'm diving into this on Radiant Mode on PS4.

Any tips I should keep in mind for my first play through?

Treat early heroes like fodder. This isn't X-COM. Don't waste early money relieving stress on anyone who isn't a healer.

Build up the Stagecoach before anything else.

Don't use the quirk portion of the Sanitarium until the mid-to-late part of the game.

Hah, I've been told to do literally the complete opposite and focus on removing Kleptomaniac in the Sanitarium, and improve the tavern/abbey/guild first.

Also my healer Vestal was extreeeemely close to getting killed via stress, and she's the only healer I've got at the moment!

Well, yes, you should get Klepto off of Reynault.

Like I said, get stress off of healers only. Dump everyone else if you can replace them.

And no, you do not start dumping resources into the buildings early. There's no point, when you'll rarely be upgrading the earliest heroes. I would buy the first few stress relief upgrades at most.

Fully upgrading the Stagecoach is #1 priority, without question. You need as much meat for the grinder as possible, as fast as possible.

Playing this on PS4. I like it a lot but even on radiant I wish it was less grindy. I want to play this for maybe 10-20 hours but maybe not 40 or 80. Maybe I should have gotten it on pc and try to mod it.

sort of reminder/PSA.... the expansion supposed to release tonight (22) on PS4 :O

new PS4 patch for the game just came out this afternoon so I'm guessing it's getting ready to go live for d/l soon, hopefully right at PST midnight

Mmmmm probably only if you expect to put some real serious time into it, or replay it multiple times. It's probably worth $10, certainly by the standards of some games that charge $2-5 for DLC outfits or gun skins lol... but it's probably also not worth more than 1/4th of the main game price. I'd hesitate to call it an expansion [in the classic PC expansion sense]. It's basically just 1 extra dungeon with a couple small things like couple extra cutscenes, bosses, random roaming boss, hero item sets, etc. 1 new Hero which isn't really much in a game with so many. Not quite expansion level content but by DLC standards it's a nice piece of content.

For me the main reason I've been waiting for it actually has been the new Districts, which are endgame prestige buildings, basically. Not really 'worth it' for most people but I really wanted them for my main file because they let you flesh out your town 'theme or roleplay' with some cool new buildings, but they're more about prestige than practicality.

Is it retroactive? And how much of a pain is that crimson curse thing? Seems a lot of people hate it

Yeah you can apply each of the 3 DLC settings separately and at any time (the new Crimson Court dungeon; the new Flagellant Hero; the new Estate Districts).

You just press R3 and it let's you add any of them at any time to any save file -- can't remove them though.

BTW.... the DLC also seems to add the Musketeer (the Kickstarter exclusive Arbalest re-skin). I'm sort of new to DD this summer so I don't really know the deal with it (or on PC), but I never saw it before in the OG on PS4, and Crimson Court definitely added her to the game for me now.

Quick question: can you lock a positive quirk and remove a negative quirk at the same time? I'm seeing conflicting information on the internet and I wasn't able to do it earlier.
