Brutal. :)

Glad to see he is doing okay.

Unless I missed it, they didn't reveal the number of ROPs, did they?
[...]
"As you can see, we doubled the amount of shader engines. That has the effect of improvement of boosting our triangle and vertex rate by 2.7x when you include the clock boost as well. We doubled the number of render back-ends, which has the effect of increasing our fill-rate by 2.7x. We quadrupled the GPU L2 cache size, again for targeting the 4K performance."
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed

32 ROPs which is quite funny together with the 2MB L2$ and 384-Bit wide memory interface.
Actually the hardware vendors always distribute the L2$ equal across all memory-controllers.
I'm curious how MS partionated 2048KB L2$ across 6 memory controllers.

The DF reveal vid is approaching 700k views. Not bad since there were multiple videos. its not superb for a reveal but decent.
That's pretty insane given target audience and DF not really getting anywhere close to does numbers on average.
I don't know if I would agree with that. When Scorpio was rumored to be zen/vega that would have made sense. But, the fact the cpu and gpu of PS4 Pro and Scorpio are basically from the same AMD jagur/polaris family (which is a few years old now). Brings in to question how MS engineers were able to customize more performance vs what Sony decided to do from silicon that's been on the market for some time.
???

Zen was never an option because it wasn't in AMD's semi-custom roadmap until 2018 plus both wanted to ensure compatibility.

I mean Polaris came out in June 2016! and Pro came in November saying it was on the market for some time is false. They did a decent job for the price, chassis the targeted.

MS getting the GPU to it's currently clockspeed is a result of better cooling, possibly less constraints on chassis, improvements manufacturing process.

Then Pro both have features form Vega or possible beyond(Those not revealed yet for Scorpio).

Only thing old here is Jaguar Architecture.

Both MS/Sony have done a great job for the year they targeted.

I'm hoping Microsoft can release this thing ahead of schedule seeing as they are ahead of schedule in development. Though Scorpio has some neat tech and customization, it had customized versions of a CPU/GPU that are available for a while now. I'm glad they are taking their time optimizing this thing though, they can't risk another Xbox One scenario. That said, I cautiously optimistic toward an "available now" moment at E3.

That's my hope as well. I'd absolutely love an August or September drop, so there's not much delay to play Shadow of War and Destiny 2 on it.

Late October to November would be a brutal wait.

I'm worried about the customization part where all mother boards are paired with a certain CPU/GPU, how will that affect the production speed? I wouldn't be surprised to see another bothed up worldwide launch with delays for some of us :/

Wonder if we'll get any reaction from Sony on this at E3. If they can push out a PS4 Pro 2 at the same time, or a slightly cheaper PS4 Pro, the decision would be easily made I think.

I am hoping for a cheaper PS4 Pro. That might be more realistic too.

Pro 2? No. Pro price drop? Maybe. Probably.

They'll likely focus on games and more games, because that is their main advantage.

I'd anticipate a $50 drop for the Pro, by the holidays at the latest. I don't see them pushing a Pro 2 or anything like that, though.

They're not actively searching which APU fits which mobo best. I think they have a solution in place that optimizes the coherency of the internals according to the APU production deviations.

If they did like on GamesCom, game after game, not really much small talk and interview, it would be great.

Microsoft seems to have the console in place, now they need the games. To me at least, the Xbone needs games way more than a new console. There's a big game drought on Xbox for me. A Scorpio is nothing without some games.

Once you have your design/manufacturing laid out what would slow them down?

I'm not sure I understand your concern.

I think their lineup this year is actually pretty strong, but that's assuming Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 deliver (and I'm interested to see what Sea of Thieves looks like).

Still I agree, they need some interesting story driven games. Hopefully we'll hear about things MS has in development.

I personally think the lineup is terrible. Im only really interested in Crackdown 3 and there's no release date for it as far as I know. I cannot get hyped for Sea of Thieves simply because I haven't played it and/or seen enough of it. I heavily disliked State of Decay, among the things due to the jankyness, so Im skeptical about it.

Otherwise I still have Halo Wars 2 to play (installed it on my PC).

So who thinks a surprise September release is possible? Seems like they are ahead of schedule and releasing alongside Destiny would be big.

Would be amazing.

I haven't had time to read this whole thread, but I haven't seen any Scorpio size estimates anywhere yet so i decided to make my own.

I based this off of lining up the back HDMI/IR ports from topdown pictures of all three xbox mother boards.

It is not meant to be 100% accurate, but i did spend a good bit of time making sure it was as close as I could get it.

Should give a decent estimate of how big the Scorpio box will be (though height is still a complete unknown)

PS5 please, after 3-4 years. With at least 6x-7x computational power over Pro.

I too expect a 50usd price drop but that's all dependent on the price and success of Scorpio.

I can definitely see them applying the strategy they used for the One S here. Release a "limited" SKU in August/September with a 2Tb HDD and no game bundled it. Follow that up with 1Tb models that come with a game in October/November.

To me, the opportunity to play multiplatform games and X360 games better without to buy a new 4K TV is a no-brainer day one buy to me!

Yooooo, that would be the most unofficial, official marketing punch of all time.

Hey guys, we can't promote Destiny in the ADs, but you can play the best version on something we are releasing right now. thnx - get a free perfume sample in each pre-order. lolz

That seems plausible for sure.

?

PS5 will be 2019 at the earliest (but also the most probable if Sony sticks to their usual schedule), and 2020 at the latest.

I'd bet on a Feb/ March 2019 reveal and Nov 2019 release personally.

Yeah if Scorpio makes a decent impact then I bet Sony will tease PS5 at E3 2018 for a 2019 release (like MS did last year) but if Scorpio isn't selling like crazy, then they could wait until E3 2019 for a 2020 release.
