Still not quite there for me yet, but it's a close second.

One thing I have to adjust going from nier to persona is that everything is so... overt. I know persona is never one for subtlety but it is jarring coming from nier where I'm still thinking how the various parts of the game tie to the onerall package. It really dug its claws into me.

"knocks enemy down with Zio, gets extra turn, attacks the same enemy instead of doing Zio on a different enemy to also knock them down"

Maybe I should skip the combat parts :3

I imagine this is the same frustration peeps went through all those years ago lol

Now you know why Endurance Run is a dirty phrase to Jeff. That was the OG for "make sure you play it THIS way!" comments on Giant Bomb. They figure out the weakness thing before too long, thankfully.

Although it does take them like half the run to start actually looking at personas' stats during fusing.

I get the issues with time restrictions. It was about as bad in Persona 4, but the way they layered in S.Links into that game as opposed to the Confidants here as well as the number of different activities you have at your disposal at any time kind of makes it feel way more restrictive. P3 was way different in that regard because you could just go to Tartarus at night and still get a full day of stuff done and the nighttime access doesn't come till later in the game anyway.

Still, P5 is my current game of the year. I've put about 55 hours in since Tuesday and I plan on putting in about the same amount over the next week.

It's only april

you can still have a GOTY... until that point.

Mine was Hollow Knight, then both Horizon and Nier failed to dethrone it (even if I liked both, especially Horizon), but Zelda finally managed to take the spot, and its my GOTY for now.

Im playing P5 now and im super into it but im way too early yet (only about 6 hours in)

Nier is my GOTY so far. That game is just special in every way.

Still have to play through Horizon, Nioh and Persona 5.

I am the sort of weirdo who enjoys building schedules and flowcharts so I actually enjoy making all these notes for ways to optimise my P5 schedule.

I'm only in early July but I've maxed several Confidants, have 3 or 4 for all skills, have cleared all Mementos I can and have tons of cash.

Wait, what.

I haven't even gone past 7 in several confidants and I'm at about the same date.

Then again I'm really into starting new confidants.

Just finished the 2nd palace in Persona. That's a good boss fight, made me use a mechanic I wasn't using before. Persona 5 would be my GOTY if I put aside Zelda (haven't finished Yakuza, and still have Nioh, Nier, and Horizon). I'm still early, but I don't think it'll dethrone Zelda. Zelda made me feel emotions no other game has come close to making me feel. It's still too early but BotW may be my favorite game ever, so Persona doesn't quite compare

Im still going though horizon. Game has its claws in me like Witcher 3 did.

I think it has the best story of the year locked up. The way it metes out the revelations is so well paced and enthralling that I couldn't stop thinking about it weeks after I had finished it.

I think Jeff is going to drop the hammer during Best Story deliberations this year and refuse to budge.

That's when Austin returns out of nowhere to shit all over Horizon's story and we get another great 30 minute feud

Someone will just read the Wikipedia summary and tell him it doesn't seem that great.

Y'all like to bring this up but the ending of Life is Strange was pretty bad.
So while the reasoning behind it might not be the greatest Jeff was 100% right to keep it off the story throne.

Best moment it deserves, best story I'm not so sure of.

I would actually agree with you there when I initially just finished it (yes even E). Honestly it didn't hit me that hard initially at first because I had certain expectations midway through C, but the more I think about it and analyse it with all the context I know by the end of the game the more I love it.

It's super fucking weird, like, without any of the context you learn by the end of the game I wouldn't think of A, B, C as amazing. Good, but not amazing. But with the context it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Like it's a weirdly backwards way of writing. When I went back to the game after the true ending, even early on, a lot of the things where I thought was kinda random or just an awkward piece of character writing made me go "Oh SHIT".

Alright Persona 5 is a better game than Persona 4.

Regarding the Kawakami (homeroom teacher) after the 2nd palace:
You can invite your teacher over to your place to clean in a maid outfit!
Jeff would love this game if he dug into it

this is too anime!

I think I'm gonna end up tackling this year backwards. Persona 5, then Nier Automata, then Yakuza 0. Maybe Zelda somewhere in there if the Switch stock gods smile upon me.

I've been rewatching some of the P4 ER lately and it's kind of off putting how much underage sexual innuendo riffing the guys are doing now. I don't remember feeling this way 8 years ago, but it's just kind of messed up now. Given where the guys are in their lives now, I'm guessing they wouldn't, even make the same jokes now, at least Vinny probably wouldn't.

I am thou and thou art I.

I am also that thing you are and 100+ hour game is a fantastic way to burn time not working.

Game localization, the Internet, and the guys themselves were different nine years ago. Vinny wasn't even married yet, I don't think.

Like, I'm (only) 25 hours into the game, but Persona 5, despite not being afraid of bad language, hasn't done anything close to "All these bitches..." unlike P4.

Edit: Also, that was mostly comedic roleplaying that was fed by their own personalities. Even as late twenty-somethings, I don't think the guys would have thought hitting on teenagers was okay for them to do.
