Amazon seems to be matching the Switch version at the discounted price, but it isn't stacking with my Amazon Prime new game discount, so it's still just $50. :(

Maybe that's just Amazon policy not to stack that discount with a sale price, but I'll check in the morning and double check if it's still working or not.

Correct. That's why Best Buy is king.

Awesome!
Wow, 1st week Bomba? I mean, $40 is what this should've been to start with, but I'd be LIVID if I paid $60 6 days ago.

Switch or PS4?
I paid full price minus my Amazon Prime discount... :(

I checked a few mins ago and it won't let me apply the prime discount. I even contacted Amazon about it and they wouldn't budge at all. So, I told them I'm returning the game. /shrugs They didn't seem to care at all. So, instead of losing $10 by applying a credit, they are losing $49.99. Going with BB I'll use my GCU and a $10 rewards cert.

I have the Wii U version of this that I never got round to playing. Is there any new content in the re-release? Or just co-op mode? Are all the Nintendo themed easter eggs still in?

Not too interested in coop so I might start the Wii U version.

I finally cracked this open last night for Switch and started playing it in portable mode. So far, the frame rate is all over the place. Once you get into an area with an average amount of activity and stuff (cars, people, etc.), the frame rate dips even if you're just running.

I'm playing a physical/retail copy and the load times aren't super fast, but they seem to be better than what I remember on Wii U. I timed it and it was about 45 seconds from the TT Fusion logo to the title screen. Once I started a game, about the same amount of time for the first load. The beginning of a chapter/mission seemed to be about 15 seconds.

Also, patch? What patch? It hasn't prompted me to download anything.

Either way, I paid $16 for it after some rewards and GCU at Best Buy and I'm glad I did. It's a fantastic LEGO game even if it's not perfect. I would like to see them patch it and clean up the performance some, but it won't be the end of the world if they don't.

You can switch to chase's original outfit at a disguise booth. Sadly it uses the default in cutscenes though.

Searched the thread, didn't see "Joy-Con" mentioned—does co-op work with split Joy-Con mode or does each player need a pair of Joy-Cons?

I'm a little pissed off. I'm gonna have to get a pro controller for this game. I thought they were allowing the 2 joycon style for co-op in this, and after buying the game, I read that they ditched it at the last minute due to camera control. I only got this game to play co-op with my young son, and I figured the simplicity and size of the single joycon would be perfect for him. Now I have to spend the extra $70. I was going to do it in the future for MK8, but no option to wait now.

Yeah this bummed me out about the game. My daughter wasn't happy about it. I'm going to pick up a pro controller/or two joycons during the week.

Anyone play co-op? any impressions on it? On tv, tablet mode, hand hand mode etc...

They need a pair. Sadly.

Wow. This M.O.V mission is awful.

Currently waiting for the time to run out (slowly) because I got stuck on the bridge railing and can no longer do anything besides jump.

Noticed that Lego City is on sale at Best Buy for $50, bringing it down to $40 after GCU.

Dang that was less than a week.

Me and a friend were playing co-op on Switch and the game crashed on us twice...got burnt and stopped playing.

That was a letdown, we played a lot yesterday and it never did that. :(

From the UK charts. Love that 1% of sales were on Wii U.

Not really. If that video is representative of the game's open-world performance overall, then I wouldn't accept it.
Digital Foundry working on this game yet?

It blows my mind that we are waiting for a Digital Foundry analysis to enjoy a game. Got the game yesterday and it plays fine in portable mode for the 2 hours I played, that "barely playable" I think is over reacting a little bit.

Maybe because people don't want to pay full price for a game that runs at sub 30fps constantly? No offense but comments on forums saying performance is fine is pretty worthless with how varied everyone's standards. I mean there were a lot of people who said BOTW was fine in docked mode pre patch and it was pretty dreadful half the time, and post patch they're saying it's "perfect" when it's not even close.

I'm not waiting to 'enjoy a game'.
I'm just curious on whether the objective measurements of Digital Foundry corroborates the reports of the terrible framerate or not.
Because as it stands, in that bit of footage it's running at around 20-25 FPS while running around a relatively simple area.
I don't see the issue with wanting to know what's up before potentially dropping 60 bucks on a title. And if you all experience that the framerate is 'fine' then DF will corroborate that too.

All i'm saying is, when there's reports and footage of the framerate being terrible, then Digital Foundry is a trusted resource that can bring some objective numbers on the matter. Some people have no issues with a game that runs at 20-25 FPS at all times, but some other people might.

I'm glad to hear you have no issues.

Except "unplayable" means the framerate is at the level where you cannot control a character correctly due to graphical issues. This clearly isn't even close to that.

If it isn't your preference, I understand that. But saying this is "unplayable" in portable clearly isn't true.

I would likely stop playing a game that runs at 20-25 FPS just traversing the world. But that's just me.
And it definitely impacts how a game controls and how it feels. A game doesn't have to freeze up completely to be considered unplayable.

Also, I did not actually say it's unplayable in it's current state. I said it's barely playable, as in, very close to the threshold where I would just say 'fuck it, this shit is unacceptable'.

While the framerate in that footage does look rough, it does still look *playable*, but it isn't going to be easy on the eyes after Zelda was pretty much a solid 30 in handheld mode. But hey, it's not Just Cause 3 levels of bad I suppose.... *shudders*

I expect they will be doing a patch for all versions soon, since PS4 and XB1 reportedly have issues too. I hope they fix the co op framerate too.

What is this even supposed to mean?

Seriously, this is the weirdest defense force i've seen yet.
If those kinds of framerates were present on any other platform I doubt i'd get the same response.

It's not the platform, it's the attitude many on GAF have toward framerates and making things a way bigger deal than they are.

Now if we're talking Epic Mickey 2 on Wii U framerates, I could understand. But dipping into the 20s occasionally doesn't make it unplayable but just merely rough visually. This same reaction happened with Assassins Creed Black Flag on Wii U where people were claiming the game was an unplayable mess because it occasionally dipped below 30 in towns. I played it for over 100 hours and unlocked everything without a hitch and barely noticed.

Experiences are quite subjective but the constant narrative about how games are complete messes when they're merely not great is absurd and rampant in many threads, along with the 'defense force' handwaving that you just tried to pull here as well. Some people just find certain experiences to not be nearly as bad as you claim, plain and simple.

For people on the fence about the pc version. It's fine now after a patch. Not much settings like with other lego stuff.

Game flies though.

I can't think of another open world game of recent that I can do 4k at over 60fps with my aging pc setup (980ti 3570k 16gb ram)

I can imagine most gaming pc can do 1080p 60 fps easily.

Really wish the game had a quick travel option. Vehicles are just a tad too slow imo.

You can find a red brick that unlocks that.

There are some red bricks that I would consider essential. The multipliers are good, of course, and you can get Lego City Hero in a level within seconds with them all. You'll also want to get Super Color Gun from
behind a wall on top of the Toy Store in Uptown
and Unlimited Dynamite from
Special Assignment 3 and using the chicken to glide to a platform near the end.

I would bang a hot farmer!
I think it's funny people are so worried about the framerate when the camera is a much bigger issue while playing the game.

It's just not "unplayable " is all. You might not want to play it but it's not rendering the game as unplayable. I think that's the firestaryer in the defense force

It's NOT. Framerate is all over the place. Even while. When you drive it's horrible.

Not what we are arguing. The word "unplayable" is the issue here. Yes, the framerate is not consistent for sure.

Played co op with my son last night. It's really odd. The first time we played split screen docked, the framerate was awful and choppy. We played some more last night and it felt so much smoother. We played for about 45 minutes and the framerate never bothered me. One thing to note for others who want to do co op, it's really the single player game wig that mode tacked on. There's literally nothing you need to accomplish as a team. I can be on one side of the world while my son is on the other side. It's not awful, but simple stuff like getting in cars together or boosting each other up is not in this.

I like that the discussion is over a word I never actually said.

I said 'barely playable'. And it is. It's hovering around 20-25 which is terrible. Yet it's still technically playable. It's just not up to modern standards.

Eh, we had a mod defending The Last Guardian running at 20fps last december. A lot of people will defend bad framerate. No need to make it about those damn Nintendo fans once more.

This is very interesting.

So if one player completes a mission, is the other player rewarded as well or must both achieve each objective separately to receive the same reward?

I've been on the fence here for a month lol, I still can't decide if I should get this game for my wife and I to play.

I think you both get the reward. Story missions will still warp the one player to the other and cutscenes will play out full screen.
