Microsoft will be streaming the Switch version of Minecraft on April 18th

It's just the GPU clocked down. The RAM to hold a certain portion of the world in memory doesn't change, nor the CPU taking care of whatever spawning/growing things going on there, and anything out of the immediate area is a matter of having the disk space to save it.

well they just said it does not have large map so medium matching PS4 medium is the Switch large

Switch (medium on PS4) is about 3072 x 3072.

Vita / Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii U are 864 x 864.

PS4 / Xbox One are 5120 x 5120 (large).

Largest world size is medium, so it doesn't have as large of worlds as the PS4/XB1 versions which is kinda unfortunate. (source: just said and shown on the stream)

Performance itself looks pretty good though, so I still might consider getting it just for the portability factor.
Edit: I got it wrong, sizes are described just above.

these guys did a terrible job streaming this

at least they gave some details. they should have sent out review codes or something

Did they say anything about price?

Also, is it possible for players to log onto a world asynchronously, or does the world only exist as long as your connected to it? Never played the console versions.

None of the console versions have Realms. When I played multiplayer on Vita and PS4, whoever was hosting shared their world. If they disconnected, game is over.

Edit: If I had to wager a guess, I'd say they're probably going to sell it for $30 like the Wii U version w/ some extra DLC packed in.

I think 3072 x 3072 is pretty awesome for a portable.

Vita's smaller world size was decent enough for me on the go, except for the horrid performance.

Larger world + 60 fps = dream come true

Medium size worlds are not too bad, consoles are never going to get the unlimited world sizes like pc and I always felt that large on xbox one was way more then enough, so medium fits well.

So I own the game on PC. Is the game on consoles the same as PC other then mapsize ? 60 FPS portable looks great btw.

No. Skins are paid DLC, no mods, limited map and mob sizes, some minor differences, console has split screen and auto-crafting, but most importantly (to me) command blocks don't exist on console.

I was fully expecting a straight part of last gen so I am very surprised by this! I'm guessing it will be 1080p docked?

Day one for sure, and it's also the same price as Wii U edition and PS4/XB1 Favourites Pack ($29.99) according to the Nintendo website.

awesome he still giving Switch tidbits

so Switch will get this GLIDE DLC as soon as they can

they reason I say this is because of Portable mode being clocked down so much so I wonder if they can get parity

world size was due more to RAM and available space than anything else

even on PC nobody actually has the hard drive space for a max size world

The worst thing about the console minecraft is the NPC/animal limit, you can only have a handful of chickens for example before you hit a cap.

I'll take medium worlds and more NPC's over large worlds and a low cap.

Not even PS4/Xbone have "full" size worlds; just a much higher limit.

I'd be ok with that higher limit. I don't need unlimited worlds, just a bit larger than in the WiiU version.

That is fucking awesome. I'm totally ok with this.

Also 60 fps in portable is amazing. Yep.. time to get back into Minecraft. Even my Wife wants to jump in this time.
