Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

I HIGHLY doubt they'd release him as a PS4 exclusive.

The season pass mentions 2 guest characters and the pass is available to all platforms.

If Sony ever goes back to the drawing board with Sony All Stars, Kiryu needs to be a character in the game, his had more PS exclusive releases than Crash, Spyro, Nathan, Kratos and Gran Turismo car. Oh who am I kidding, more chance he will be in Smash Bros like Snake and Cloud 😂

yeah, that's why I was asking would this be the closest Yakuza gets to being an Xbox game, lol

I have been saying this for years my dude...

Playing for 2 1/2 hours now and got to say it is a mixed bag for me. While I love the gameplay, setting and overall style the talking just isn't grabbing me. It somehow bores me a bit and I'm at a point where I even start to skip most of it. The rest of the game is clearly good enough to keep me going so far. Maybe the characters will grab me later on.

Do not skip the story! Otherwise you'll be confused later on when the story shifts into high gear. The beginning of the story is used to introduce the characters and the roles they play.

i'm not sure how reliable this is, but these fan pages claim Kiryu is the #1 most requested character to be the first guest.

http://yakuzafan.com/kazuma-kiryu-requested-character-tekken-7-dlc/

http://tekkengamer.com/2017/04/18/top-guest-characters-suggested-katsuhiro-harada-tekken-7/

then there's this article with the accompanying video, this guy does mention that the most requested character he has noticed first, is kiryu. I timestamped the part he talks about it

https://youtu.be/IEwrMKz2ZhM?t=22m36s

here's another.
https://youtu.be/UrR7mbD5BJk?t=2m24s

so...the demand is clearly there, i'm sure it's reached harada by now.

I and many others here have been saying that since before PS All-Stars came out. While this post is from just after the game's release:

As for who else needs to be in this game, look no further than my avatar. Kazuma Kiryu is probably the most deserving third party exclusive character that is still relevant today.

i know we talked about it here long before that. A bunch of us even had Kiryu themed avatars to show support, but sadly it was not to be.

Chapter 10 spoiler:
I did like 6 or 7 cooperative heat moves with Oda and didn't get the "It Takes Two" trophy.
What gives? I do have savefile before that but it's a little bizarre. Or do I get the trophy upon finishing the chapter?

damn, what a fucking shame. kiryu would've been perfect for playstation allstars, you know. that thread happened before i was on GAF though

my thread died pretty quickly but i stand by it. if a reboot ever does happen, kiryu must be there. along with all the other fuckers in my OP.

Fairly certain you should get it either when you perform the last heat move or at the end of the big brawl at
Tojo HQ

... Why does Akuma have a shotgun in T7? (bonus weapon I assume that can be unlocked?)

Also, going by the above picture of Kiryu from BD, if he doesn't get into T7 at least he should be a shoe in to be included in the next Ikari Warriors team for KOF (seriously, looks like he'd fit right in with Ralph and Clark!)

I bought this game earlier on in the week.
I have never played a Yakuza game. Thinking about it, I am not even sure I have seen a full trailer. I have just heard enough from word of mouth that I think I will enjoy it!

Unfortunately I am away ALL weekend, so will not get a chance to play :(

Wherever you aren't going if you have wifi you can remote play it (if you put the disc in your system)

Fun fact: The video that sold me on the game was the conversation between Kiryu and the bowling alley girl about the "turkey". I think you will enjoy it, too.

I've been watching Cryaotic play through this on Twitch. Though I've played a good portion myself, seeing him voice act the side quests is hilarious. His voicing of the Yokomichi Silvers quest was on point, laughed my ass off way more than when I played through it.

I understand this question has come up a lot lately - but after having played Nioh, Nier and most recently, Persona 5 - my itch for quality japanese games still needs scratching. Can anyone sell me on the game in a sentence or .gif?

Wait, the
two legendary fight styles don't count towards the "Master of Style" trophy
?
The
trophy where you have to max all
styles?

Nope,
I think you don't even need to unlock but I'm not a 100% on that. Maxing it DEFINITELY DOES NOT count
though.

I've got the fight scenes covered, someone post pictures of funny shit now.

I'm coming from Nioh (having played the Nier: A demo and finished every single Persona bar Innocent Sin) and it's godlike. Better than any 2016 game by quite a bit in my opinion (Dark Souls 3 was really good though; Dragon's Dogma too but techically not a 2016 game).

Picked this up the other day based on word of mouth and played it just now for two hours. I really like the story so far and the gameplay is engaging despite being a little sloppy.

People will reply with wacky gifs, and there is certainly lots of absurdist humor in the game, but the heart of Yakuza 0 is a gripping crime drama with characters you will become really invested in and a satisfying rollercoaster of a story. The combat mechanics are no Nioh or Nier, but it is a refined beat-em-up with skill trees for each character, six fighting styles, and a ton of satisfying supermoves.

That's two sentences, sorry.

Very astute.

Honestly this game deserves paragraphs written as a recommendation, boiling it down to a few sentences is just not really delivering on all the aspects of this game.

A game like Ni-Oh can be done in a few sentences, but not games like NieR or Gravity Rush 2 or Yakuza 0 or Persona 5.

Goddamn we got a lot of good Japanese games this year.

So I'm on Chapter 7 now and I fucking love this game. I'm enjoying it that much that I just bought Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 and will pre-order Kiwami soon. Really glad I took another chance on this series, it's amazing.

It needs the full video, IMO.

It really is the video that sold me on the game. The surprise was when I found out the entire game is littered with moments like this.

No joke lol. Not long had a Playstation. Always bbeen a Nintendo/PC guy haha.
I knew you could stream to a Vita, but yeah - this is a game changer!

oh haha well cool that you know man. I played a ton of this game on remote play on my laptop at work. well, when i had work to be at.

So I'm like 30 hours into Persona 5, and I'm actually really enjoying the game, it's great, but still, I have this sudden urge to just interrupt my current playthrough and start a New Game+ run of Y0 instead and I don't know how to stop it and if I even should.

On another subject:

I saw this gif in the "Kiryu in Tekken" thread:

Please tell me this is from the actual main story and not just some goofy side stuff. I really should've finished Yakuza 5.

That's from the end of the Kiryus first part in Yakuza 5.

So... Any tips or guide for mahjong? 😞

I'm no expert but the best visualization for learning is that think of your potential tiles with "potential influence" meaning that a 1 tile of a suite doesn't have much influence because only generally hands of 1-1-1 or 1-2-3 influence it, meanwhile a 3 of a suite is more valuable because you can gain hands with 1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 3-3-3.

If you're going for the Achievemnt point specifically:
Riichi is an option you can declare when you are one tile (including ones you draw/or steal) away from having a winning hand, and it locks your hand so you're stuck with it. Ippatsu is if you get that winning tile immediately the turn after you declared Riichi. Mangan is a 5 point hand, Haneman is a 6 point hand, I'm no expert but basically...

If you ONLY need those, you build up points with things like:

  • Riichi (+1)
  • Iipatsu (+1)
  • Having Fully Concealed Hand (+1) (You don't steal so your pair isn't revealed)
  • Having triplets of Dragons (+1)
  • Having a combination with the Dora tile (+? pts) (the tile shown in the middle +1, meaning if it shows 1 of dots, you have a hand like 2-3-4 of dots, I believe it gives you as many as you have Dora tiles, so Triplet of 2 of dots in this case might give you +3?)
  • More points are given for rarer hand combinations:
    • Having 3 triplets in a winning hand
    • All pairs of two
    • Flush
    • Other shit I don't know and are probably better seen in the hands/rules ingame

Thanks, any help is welcome. I played a lot today and managed to get a few wins and a haneman but honestly I Just feel lost most of the time

I'm enjoying P5 as well, though hearing/reading its localization after the stellar localization on Y0 is a bit rough. Also, walking around I'm constantly wishing I had Y0's first-person view mode so I could look around. But yeah, I'm looking forward to getting back to all the Platinum Adventure content I have left to do.

Oh yeah, some of the long-winded dialogue in P5 is a drag to read, and I'm sure I can blame most of it on the localisation because Y0 is no stranger to unnecessarily long-winded dialogue and yet it worked. Some of P5's dialogue can be hard to parse.

As for Yakuza 0, I've yet to beat Amon with Majima and I haven't even unlocked him with Kiryu yet, but all of Kiryu's side missions that I have left are with the Pocket Racing Circuit and honestly, it's no fun. I befriended racer dude, that's enough for me. For now I'll probably do a Legend run or something, I dunno.

I'm kinda pissed those disco dance battles are required to fight Amon. Karaoke I can handle ok. Haruka's stuff in 5 went decently as well, and you could grind to make it easier. But this bullshit, ugh. "Easy" doesn't even make it all that much easier since the timing is still brutal. Can't even give up and get a "Done/Failed" checkmark.

This sucks.

Disco can go die in a fire. The button presses in no way line up with the songs, the buttons are LIGHT NEON colored on a light neon background, the closing squares makes it almost impossible to tell which button came first when you have a series of them, and the window for button registration is like 5 frames.

Why is Karaoke so much better than this? Who the hell designed Disco? It can't be the same person.
