Persona Community Thread |OT9| SPOILER TAGS OR DIE

My only real issue with p5 so far (i have only just finished the second palace) is that time management feels a lot tighter than in p4 because p5 has sooo many days that you can't do anything confidant or social stats related.

Would you guys say this goes away later in the game?

Don't expect to have much free time outside of the time allocated for dungeon countdowns.

Although those periods do get longer later on.

I think it's generally agreed that this might be the easiest one to finish all confidants in one go. I've seen more people do it at least.

advice, make sure to the Fortune and Temperance Confidants for abilities that will give you more time. I didn't do that on my first playthrough and I kind of realize how dumb I was for not doing them.

Thanks I will keep an eye out for them, I am just worried because I feel like I have ignored ryuji too much for stats and other stuff lol. it's like may 25th and i am about to send the second calling card.

My stats are at half 2 and half 3 about.

My links are Ryuji, Twins, Sojiro and Ann at 3. Death at 6 and Moon and Sun at 2 and anyone else i have unlocked is at 1.

I guess i really just shouldn't sweat it lol

I haven't felt like the time is much tighter than Persona 3, but I do get annoyed that so many SLinks are gated behind stat minimums and other things. I feel like I need a spreadsheet just to navigate the social sim aspect.

Does Persona 4 Golden give you more early SP items than the original game or was I lucky? My very brief trip into the dungeon, the short one before you get full control of your days, netted me 7 soul drops and 3 snuff souls. That's 220sp in recovery.

Yeah I think it might, I don't quite remember the vanilla drops but every p4g run i've done I walk out of the first part of the dungeon with ~8 sp items. I feel like it's slightly inflated because it begins to taper off slightly after the first dungeon.

And I love see this motherfucker again :) So many Nocturne's bosses.

I'm basically at the same point and don't understand how your SLink levels are possible...I think my Ryuji link is 4 and everyone else is 3 or 2. I don't even have a link outside my party and was only recently able to unlock Ann. I guess I must've managed my time badly, but I don't even feel like I've had much free time.

I just went for the treasure tonight in the 2nd palace and I think this could be the hardest SMT boss I've fought.
I defeated the paintings and thought I was all good, then they came back again (!!) and now I have to somehow defeat them at the same time or they get revived? Ugggggh so frustrating. It was a war of attrition and I lost. Had to shut it off for tonight.

If you want a tip:
if you are level 19 and above, you can try to fuse Matador. Matador learns Swift Strike which can hit enemies for 3/4 times each, and along with other skills that you can make it inherit, it can easily become one of the best early game Personas for players to use. Use it to easily defeat all the parts except for the mouth then finish off the mouth with magic attacks. Ryuji/Yusuke's multi-hit attacks are good too

Does anyone remember Persona Trinity Soul? The first Persona Anime before P4A.

I watched the first episode years ago and never continued, but that was before I played P3P so I had no understanding.

Trinity Soul is... a mess.
It has a few (even significant) references to Persona 3, but for the most part stands entirely on its own, to its detriment.

Filled with a lot of nonsense, stuff that really wears your suspension of disbelief thin (probably even more so when you've played the games). Heck, without knowing you, I'm pretty sure that you'd have enjoyed the series more if you had watched it in its entirety prior to playing P3P.

Lol at that time I didn't know anything about Persona just thought the first episode was a big weird and never went back to it. It's just that occasionally I look through fanarts of series protagonists and realise "oh yeah, there's that one anime... wonder why nobody talks about it?"

I remember Trinity Soul.

I wish I didn't tho, it's almost devoid of good qualifies, Saddest part is, it has a cool premise, but it's wasted so badly... >_>

This game's artstyle makes all the merchandise I've seen for it look so striking.

Does the free DLC for real world uniforms let you battle with Mona as a four legged cat?

Thanks for the tip;
I tried to take out the eyes first, but I'll try a multi-hit strategy next time.
Unfortunately my party is only at level 17 (I'm on Hard, and have no recent saves I could go grind at), so I'll just have to make due.

Because it isn't a particularly well-liked show.
I will say that you should watch it though. So that you might suffer with the rest of us who have.

Give the guy who voice acted for Ryuji the best voice acting reward for 2017.

If he doesn't get any awards... he got robbed.

You know I'm going to revise my original comment about time management in p5.

Once you kinda figure out what stats go with each slink it gets pretty easy, it might actually be one of the few times where I feel like I've got a long series of short term goals if that makes sense.

However my god ranking up stats feels like it takes forever in this one, I swear it didn't take this long to hit level 3 in some of these stats in p4, just getting charm to level 3 took the better part of may and the first week or so of june.

Trinity Soul started out decently enough for me but quickly became a heaping pile of garbage. I tried a couple times to go back and finish it, but I just can't force myself to finish it.

I never thought I'd hear somebody seriously say, "I believe your brother is with the whale now." Then I watched Trinity Soul.

Then I stopped watching Trinity Soul.

Beat the third palace in P5.

So is it just me or is Kaneshiro's shadow basically just Kaneshiro with a bad haircut and a tiny mustache? No real personality difference.

Did the entire third palace in one go but I was basically just running on fumes at the end. Good thing I bought that package of fifty band-aids!

I think my current favorite bit of dialogue comes from Mishima complaining to the MC about not telling him that his meeting with Ohya was just an interview. "I felt like an idiot." Mishima's a fun character, we all knew losers like him.

Also Kawakami doing your laundry in her maid outfit is just the most pathetic thing.

I will echo the sentiment that it feels like stats take a long time to go up in this one. I've been sitting on +2 for everything (save guts at +3) for what seems like forever.

Try to unlock Fortune up asap. Doing so lets her increase the growth rates of a selected stat for one day.

Also start pumping points into Charm if you know what's good for you.

I finally beat the 2nd palace boss tonight.
I wanted to use Yusuke in the fight for the sake of gravitas, but his weakness to fire just made him a liability, so I switched in Ryuji. With his multi-hit I was able to whittle the boss down. It was a painful, stressful, not very fun fight due to the amount of his respawns, but I got it done.
Thanks for that tip.

I had completely erased Persona Trinity Soul from my mind. If you asked me to list every single megaten related anime adaptation I'd have listed them all with the exception of that one.
I can't deny I'm a little curious to see what it's about.

Maxwood

Oh rock of ages, do not crumble, love is breathing still. Oh lady moon shine down, a little people magic if you will.
Everyone's currently obsessed with Persona 5, and for good reasons I imagine, but I hope it's okay if I say a few words about Persona 4.
I'll try to keep this short, but I need to talk about Persona 4.
(But it's not time for a LTTP thread, not yet.)

First things first; this is my first Persona game. Never played a SMT game either. Unless you count +-20 hours of Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
Anyway, I played a bit of P4 Golden on Vita and it took me by surprise. I really enjoyed my time with it, but I don't own a Vita anymore, so I decided to buy the PS2 version.

85 hours later; i've fallen completely in love with Persona 4 and it's cast.
The way P4 "clicks" with me is quite rare. Psychonauts is a title that did, but my enthusiasm for this game and love for it's atmosphere, characters and overall vibe is more aching to how I feel about some of my favorite TV shows, like Buffy and Twin Peaks.
I just can't get enough. I hope there's still a long way to go because I don't know how i'll feel leaving Inaba and it's citizens behind.
I'm usually glad to finally finish a game that takes more then sixty hours, so that's saying a lot.

Currently trying to rescue
Naoto in the Secret Laboratory dungeon.
Maxed the Nanako, Dojima, Yosuke, Chie, Yumi and Yukiko Social Links.
The romance that occured between my PC and Yukiko felt quite natural. It's the first time I encounter a "romance option" storyline in a RPG that actually feels, you know, romantic. Very cute.
A bit weird how it's rarely mentioned afterwards, though.

What are the key-items you get after finishing a Social Link for? Endgame stuff, I imagine?

The soundtrack CD included in the PS2 case was a nice surprise.
You might think i'd be sick of hearing Heartbreak after all this time.
You'd be wrong.

Oh, and the 2D art accompanying every Persona is fucking incredible.

This game is making me so happy. I really needed this in my life right now.

It's always nice seeing someone new enjoying these games :D And especially when they also like Twin Peaks.
The fact that romances and other developments that happen in Social Links aren't mentioned is one of the main criticism about the game. It's understandable, but it's still a bit annoying and can take you out of certain moments.

By the way, the items you get at the end of a Social Link are for fusing the highest level persona of the corresponding arcana.

Glad to see you're enjoying it.
And it's always nice to see another Yukiko fan. :p

As for romance acknowledgment, I'd gladly give it up if it meant Rise would dial it back a bit. It seemed like the game is convinced she's 'the one'™ back on the PS2.

At least Golden managed to dilute that a bit.

i'm trash and about to drop $13 bucks on p1 and p2 costumes

*extremely pedantic voice*
The tie colors on the Seven Sisters uniform are wrong: Makoto's should be blue since she's a third year and the boys should be orange because they're second years. Futaba's should be green since as I understand it she's a year younger than the others.

In persona 4 Golden, there is no reason to fish until I actually get the quest that leads through catching all the Guardians right? I can't catch them early or anything.

The Sevens emblem reducing your chance of being targeted is a fun detail. The Hermelin badge nulls Curse and Bless, which I don't really see the significance of unless it's supposed to be a reference to Mae and Aki, but mostly I just think it was designed to sweeten the pot because literally no one would have bought the P1 costumes otherwise.

I absolutely loved Persona 4's setting and characters, but I thought the overarching plot and mystery were pretty bad. Still sunk 85 hours into Golden though so who am I to talk I guess?
